mbna billpay questions

I notice that when you log out of Bill Pay Choice (the option for those with old MBNA cards that were rebranded as BOA), they now post a notice as below. They are trying to shift these customers to paying their bills using the BOA site, which can be done (and presumably saves them money).

However, it looks like the old procedure still works (at least for now)and causes these scheduled payments to show up on the FIA site, from whence you can change the payment source, since I had been using the FIA site for most payments, I chose to use this approach.

It does appear that everything that can be done from the FIA site can be done from the BOA site. The ;major problem I find on the BOA Bill Pay site is that it has been designed so that you can not use cut and paste to put in account numbers.

I fear to do the work to enter all this data, and then find that they do not continue the service free (the service of letting you pay bills from non-BOA accounts from various bank accounts, easily changing from one o the other), especially if you cease to have a BOA bank account (which they appear to be increasing fees for).

They sent me two letters and called me once. I think they covered themselves.

Seriously, i wonder if they are going to take a hit from people who got a little too used to free money and decide it would be just too inconvenient to pay back all that money. The whole 0% BT trick works on a lot of people after all.

+1. But my biggest regret is "I hardly knew ye." I had MBNA cards for ten years with high credit limits, but had no idea of this perk until 2008. And then they mostly cut me off.

While this avoids having the site cluttered up with canceled payments, someone who did not get the word on the pending cancellations (and there a bound to be a few) may not be aware that payments they had expected to be made, will not be made. Think of a relative who checks in occasionally to be sure an elderly parent is managing their affairs correctly, or a spouse who only occasionally looks in. If they were shown as canceled, such people could make other arrangements and the amounts and intended dates would be listed.

On my Charles Schwab FIA page, the cancelled payments (due to the use of credit card to pay them) are shown as cancelled. They were recurring monthly payments to utilities. The history is still there.

ditto here on my Fidelity FIA page. Guess I'm moving bills to the checking account

The usefulness of these FIA/BOA sites for payments may be shrinking.

As noted, you can no longer add new bank credit cards. I tried the trick of changing the number of a CITI card from an old unused CITI American Express AAdvantage to a Thankyou points one and it would not accept the change because the format was different, although this is probably just be because the number of digits differed in AMEX cards (even if issued by CITI) and other cards..

On the BOA payments site I could add the new card, but the sources for payment were limited to BOA bank accounts. For Citi Cards previously entered, I can still pay from a wide range of banks including Schwab and Alliant.

It appears at least for my new CITI Thankyou points Premier I will have to enter the data into each bank I may want to pay it from, or use the CITI cite, entering information for each bank separately. Similar problems may be encountered for other new credit cards.

May be targeted, but when logging out of my BofA account, I just got an offer for 5% Cash Back on qualifying purchases made with your Bank of America credit card now through March 31, 2011. At first I thought it was my other BofA card, but it was actually my former MBNA card which I haven't used for actual purchases in years. It is has a $25 cap on it, but I'll take it.

Thanks, following up I logged on to the old MBNA bill pay to see what was there when I logged out. I did not see your offer but I did notice an offer for a business card with 3% back on everything for three months, which may be worth taking (probably been there before but I had not noticed).

Paid off $31.5K statement balance which includes $30K transferred to bank account on 2/14. I guess this is it, the final chapter of mbna billpay.

BTW, I still use checking account backed mbna billpay for a number of bills, mainly credit cards. Other bills are paid on company's web sites to earn 2% 529 rewards.

What 2% 529 rewards are you referencing? *curious*
