AVOID this FI if you don't want to be pulling your hair out. Need I say more? If anyone is interested I can detail my story of dealing them over the last four months, and how I am out $100 or so. |

I have been looking seriously at this bank to open an account; however, if they are a big problem I don't even want to attempt it. What happened? |

Months worth of being given the run around, being unable to get a hold of someone to help me, unable to get my account number (!) up until three months had elapsed, promised callbacks multiple times, only received a callback once (and was not helpful). |

Stay away from BankUnited at all costs. It is a ridiculous bank. They claim to have "internet banking" and what this means is that you have the ability to VIEW your account over the internet and transfer your money internally only. Want to get your money OUT? Get this -- despite opening the account with an ACH transfer, their are only 2 ways to get your money out -- visit a local branch in Florida, or write a letter and have it notarized! After sending the notarized letter they will mail you a check by certified mail (so be sure you are home to sign for it or it will sit at the post-office!).
I speak from experience. Having opened my account with a $10,000 ACH transfer, and then finding out 20 days later (because FIRST they had to mail me an account number, THEN signing on with an account number to gain "internet access" I had to be given a username and password sent separately by mail), that there is no way to withdraw money.
Very very very bizarre. As of yesterday, I picked up my account balance check at my post-office (despite asking BankUnited to send the money back via ACH to the same account they withdrew it from).
They really are a "local bank for locals" as their home page suggests. If you don't live in Florida or otherwise mind going to a bank to get your money out, keep away. |

At least it did not take 2-3 months for you to get your account number like in my case... |
