To apply for the ATT card, do I have to change long distance carrier ?

Mark -

The AT&T Universal card (actually offered by Citibank, which explains why the offer is so similar) was in this week's Dallas Morning News.

I was thinking about paying off my GM card before the 0% intro rate expires at the beginning of August, but now I think I'm going to take the AT&T Universal Card, if Citibank will take me.

Mephisto, I don't think it was 0% for BT...

I'm sure everyone is aware that they need to CLOSE the other credit card accounts (the one's you are paying off), not just pay off the balance. Otherwise the available credit limit will show on your credit card and eventually you will be over-extended (especially if you go for a mortgage). Make sure you get and keep letters confirming your CLOSURE of the acct. And also make sure they actually CLOSE it and not just deactivate it. Just deactivating it does nothing to remove it from your credit history.

I just got an offer yesterday from Citibank that has a 3.9% APR until your balance is paid off with no transfer fees. I don't know if it is for everybody or not, but I have the Drivers Edge Platinum Select. If you have a Citibank card, go to balancetransfer.accountonline.com to see if you qualify.

I got a 0% intro rate for a year from Chase Platinum. www.mychasecard.com

MarkM,

Thanks for posting that AT&T Universal card offer. I've been looking for a good BT offer for a while. I receive a lot of offers from Chase or Household Bank, but they are either for 6 months or have BT fees. I also received a couple offers from CitiBusiness and was about apply for it, when I saw your post. I received my card yesterday and just transfered balances over the phone.

pofig37, MarkM, or other ATT cardholders,

does the ATT card act exactly like any another Citi card, as far as you know? E.G., do you access it at the citibank website, does it work fine with c2it, does it count as another citibank card (so that you can move credit limit to/from other citibank lines?)

My main BT strategy is to:

(1) open biggst, best citibank family lines I can;

(2) immediately transfer over part of my current citibank credit limit from another line over to the new 0% line to maximally exploit the promotional BT offers;

(3) then when done close the newer accounts and tranfer their entire credit limits over to my Clik Citi line (which is the best product they have for non BM purchases, IMHO--best value gauruntee, full 1% back each month, extended warranty, etc.)

They have let me do this in the past this way, and it's a big reason I'm more interested in citbank offers than any others.

emre1000 -- yes, the 0%/1yr chase deal was in the coupon section last sunday

DaveHanson -- I'm not sure about the ATT card, the online site looks similar but it is not the same portal. I have nevr tried to shift credit limits between cards. Perhaps I will try it though, and let you know. Is there any particular strategy to doing this? Just call their normal customer service line & flat out ask them???

alert mods

MarkM, yes, I just call and explain that I want to move some from of the credit limit from one card to another. Sometimes it takes a couple of calls to get someone who understands what I want, but it's always worked OK eventually.

New Offer as of 5/19: Citibank platinum select, 0% and no fees on BTs until 5/1/03, good until 7/7/02, call 1-800-760-1346. Details were in the Sunday paper.

Thanks DH for posting the Citibank offer w/no balance transfer fees! Just what I was looking for. Already called the 800 # and applied. Thanks!

can someone pls post the chase 0% offer?
i recently applied and my rate is not 0%

I called Chase to cancel my CC and they offered me a 0% BT without any BT fee, when actual papers came, it said there is a $45 annual fee and a BT fee. I have a good mind to write to Chase and hold them on to their words and make them give me what they promised.

I got the Citibank 0% BT without any transaction fee too. This time there was no wording about the BT fee, so, I called them and asked them send me something in writing that states that there is no BT fee. A lady said that " I am not lying to you", but I am not taking any chance.

Now a question : Since Citi will not give me a BT check or do the BT to my checking account, can I overpay FBB CC (to be specific) and ask FBB to pay back the excess ? Has anyone done that with FBB ?

When I tried to shift the credit line from my other Citi CC to this new 0% CC, they said that I need to close the other account. I do not want to close the other account as it has accrued lot of Sony points, has anyone faced this situation before or has anyone ever got around without closing the other CC and transferring the credit line. I was hoping to reduce my Sony Citi CC to ~$500.

Thanks

sunrise, they CAN move part of one line to another line. They have done this for me 3 times. Call during business hours, explain this has been done, and politely ask to speak to a supervisor if they tell you no.

I can verify on that offer that they don't charge BT fees. I actually think citibank is very good on stuff like this.

NOTaFool, interesting FBB solution. Have you opened up a checking account with them? It's very handy for managing FBB payments. You can ACH in and out from as many as 10 other checking or MM accounts, as well as your FBB CC. You are limited to $1500 per ACH switch between the external accounts.

Was there ever a thread specifically on the FBB card? Can't recall. If not, this board could use a good one...there are several tricks and terms worth noting. You have as much experience as any of us with it...if you're inclined to start one, that'd be appropriate...if not, I'll take a little time pull one together.

What I got in the mail today:

MBNA - 0% through October ($25K)
First Union - 0% through August (cheesy $8K offer)

I'm going to payoff my HELOC with MBNA even though I plan to refi in the next month. The only question is do I feel confident enough to use the 0% CC as a bridge while I refi.

0% is NIRVANA and is hard to resist.

I'm really tempted to refi the home with a HELOC and then use the 0%, 1.9% and 2.9% offers I get regularly to manage the balance. In any event, I'm paying off the current HELOC for a few months with MBNA.
