Thanks NotaFool and Dave. I called Citi this morning ( as well as yesterday at around 11:30 PM which completely wasted my time !) and a rep said she can do the credit line transfer for me without closing my other account. She even said that she can send me a BT check which I will deposit in the bank. Problem solved for me. |

Whoa, MBNA is the most agressive bank giving out money away. This is the exchange I had today: me: "Hi, I would like to correct the address on my account." her: "I will be glad to help you with that but I also noticed you did not take advantage of your no interest balance transfer." me: "Right, you have a 3% balance transfer fee" her: "You mean, you would do it if there was not fee?" me: "Well, I could." her: "OK then, I will cancel the fee" me: "But I do not have a balance to transfer" her: "That is quite all right, we can make a deposit to your checking account. You can use it for any purpose, like going on vacation" me: "Well, I am not a big spender." her: "Your credit line is $15k, how much would you like to transfer?" me: "Hmm, maybe $14k." her: "We can deposit to your checking account $14,900.00 . Will that be allright? They gave me 0% for 9 months and no fees. |

As I mentioned before, I am expecting a BT check with 0% APR from Citi. Can anyone tell me how does a BT check differ from a convenience check or a cash advance check (from the looks of it). I would not deposit a check which is not a BT check, so what do I need to check on the check ? |

They look the same, sunrise. The docs included will confirm that it's a 0 fee BT check though. |

DWooley, it would have been funny if your conversation continued like this:
her: "We can deposit to your checking account $14,900.00 . Will that be allright? me: "I plan to gamble the money immediately." her: "That's fine." me: "Can I get a credit increase? her: "Hold on. Yes. You can get $30,000." me: "Send me $30,000." her: "Okay, $30,000. Allright?" me: "I like the ponies." her: "Thank you for calling MBNA." |

I recently did the transfer to the Chase Platinum 0.0% APR for 12 months!! Such a killer deal, probably the best I've seen around. |

Chase probably has a 3% charge for BT, however, there is a $45 maximum BT charge. |

NOTaFool,
Exactly same thing happened to me with Chase. What are you planning to do ? I am not letting them go so easily. I know legally I have a strong position. I am going to write to them ( I sent them an email, didn't work, wrote to BBB - they asked me to contact them in US mail), if nothing works I am thinkning of taking legal actions on my own, i.e. without a lawyer. |

Actually I am taking it as a challenge as I am taking a Law course right now. So, the way I write up the case would be Crucial (hyperlinked automatically !!). In my case, a person claiming as accounts manager gave me the "counteroffer" when I went to close my account. I explained to him that I am getting some 0% BT offer and that is the reason he counter offered me to keep me as a customer. Even though there is no proof, I think I can make up a good case write up, and think of the expectation I had, the hassle I am having in beleiving someone etc. Will keep you posted. |

Bank of America - REI Card Holders (Well, Prior Holders)
There is a 0% APR on balance transfers on the new Chase card you received a month ago.
Once you make a balance transfer, you also get 0% for the existing purchase balance AND 0% on all purchases made for the rest of 2002. |

sunrise - did you call Chase and try talking to someone? Especially if you kept notes about your conversation that offered the deal (including date & time & rep's name)?
Maybe I was "lucky," but about a month after I cancelled my Discover card, earlier this year, someone called me to offer me a .9% for six months, no fees, if I would reopen/keep it open. I told them I would be interested, but please call me back in a few days as it was not a good time. In the interim I looked on the web and found a 0% until November deal, and when they called back I got the woman to almost match that (0% until october). But when my first BT transfered I looked online and it showed up at 3.9%. I called them up immediately and, after presenting the details of my notes, they corrected the rate. |

dave,
what's the clik citi line?
DaveHanson said:
<< pofig37, MarkM, or other ATT cardholders,
does the ATT card act exactly like any another Citi card, as far as you know? E.G., do you access it at the citibank website, does it work fine with c2it, does it count as another citibank card (so that you can move credit limit to/from other citibank lines?)
My main BT strategy is to:
(1) open biggst, best citibank family lines I can;
(2) immediately transfer over part of my current citibank credit limit from another line over to the new 0% line to maximally exploit the promotional BT offers;
(3) then when done close the newer accounts and tranfer their entire credit limits over to my Clik Citi line (which is the best product they have for non BM purchases, IMHO--best value gauruntee, full 1% back each month, extended warranty, etc.)
They have let me do this in the past this way, and it's a big reason I'm more interested in citbank offers than any others. >> |

DWoolley --- they treat that as a BT and not a cash advance?? How? That seems like it could be a pretty good deal.
