Ok got information directly from bank manager who just finished training on these affiliated accounts. First it is important to know how your account is coded state wise. If you joined after the merger, it is probably in the state you already have an account in. If it is before the merger, your account may be out of state. They can tell you at your branch what state your account is in. Each state has laws governing bank deposits. In AZ the deposit must post the same day it is made. Interest therefore starts that day if your account is in AZ. It appears that the laws for the state your account is listed at are the laws that apply to your account.

Does it mean I can access my account online? and i can enjoy the 30 free trades if my account is over $25K also?

thanks

Be careful mailing in deposits : I used the new BOA address to mail in a $22K balance transfer check on Oct 6, but used a deposit slip from my MBNA issued checkbook. Of course BOA claims they still have not received the check.

One possible reason may be that the MBNA issued deposit slips have a 9 digit account number while BOA added 3 zero's in front
of this account number to form a 12 digit account number. Still you would think BOA would have trained their people to expect
this sort of thing during the transition from MBNA to BOA.

I am annoyed since the deadline for the balance transfer check was Oct 15, and it is too late to mail in another one!

Has anyone successfully mailed a deposit to the new BOA address ?

Update 10/21/2006: BOA said they would investigate to see if they could find the lost $21400 check. Yesterday I got a form in the mail asking me for a copy of the cancelled $21400 check, so they could credit me. Today I noticed they have created a temporary credit of $21400 in my account.

According to BOA, MBNA checks and deposit slips are good for at least one more year. Did you use the correct address? My monthly statement lists a Tampa FL PO box address, however, that is for general correspondance. I found out that the address for deposits is a DIFFERENT Tampa FL PO Box in a different zip code, which was NOT listed on my monthly statement. This is all somewhat confusing so you need to find out which address your deposit went to. If it went to the general correspondance address your deposit may be delayed.

After you open your acct you can access it by phone within minutes. To access it online BOA will mail you a pass code. Don't know much about the free trade deal. Best to call BOA for more info.

i went into a branch and got instant online and was mailed an atm card a couple of days later.

i also opened a totally free checking account (which pays negligible interest) that i only need to keep $10 in and can transfer funds instantly by phone or internet to it from my nea acct.

Did people got this Cash Maximizer account notice that there are a limited number of payments or transfers that may be performed? In this case, the number is 3. According to BoA's CS representative, it's regulated by the Federal.

Here is the reply I got from BoA.

As this account type features the ability to have checks written from it, this account is considered to be a checking account.

However, please be advised that Federal regulations limit the amount of payments or transfers that may be performed through certain interest-bearing account types.

Thus, we would recommend limiting the amount of payments or transfers from this account to three transactions per statement cycle period.

For each transaction beyond this limit, there will be a $15.00 excessive transaction charge assessed.

They are charging to order deposit slips online? I've never seen that before.

Just saw my latest online statement dated 10/19/2006 : the interest rate was 6.23%, so it looks like they are honoring the 60-day introductory rate as well!

Is there any min balance for this acct in the case the rate gets lowere?

How sucessful have you guys been using ACH? Can u ACH from MBNA or do u need to use HSBC's interface?

There is no longer a minimum balance for the lower rate (5.10% after intro period), but the higher rate (5.35% after intro period)
requires a balance of $50K.

ACH initiated by other banks worked fine while it was MBNA and also after the conversion to BOA. Now that it is BOA it should also be possible to initiate ACH from BOA's web site, but I haven't tried that yet.

Hi,

I am just finding these fantastic finance threads. 5% interest! That is great! I was curious, is it to late to sign up for these accounts at the 5+% interest rates?

Another question about the interest, I am assuming that it is taxable? Where as buying a bond in your own state (or NY for me) the bond is not taxable (right?)?

Thanks,
Rich

Has the form been down for all since yesterday?

My MBNA AAA account is apparently set up in New Hampshire. Does anyone know if that state requires deposited checks to begin earning interest the same day, next day, or when cleared?

Anybody else have this problem?

Since the B of A take over they are only giving me 3.60 % I've been on the phone 6 times trying to get this straightened out!!

I tried to do a bill pay from my BoA checking acct to my MBNA acct - its been over a week, the money went out from the checking but still has not shown from the MBNA. Called several times, got transfered, put on hold, and was out of patience. I may go to a local branch to straighten things out.

Has this happened to anyone? can you do regular billpay to transfer funds?

Which affinity account do you have?

alert mods

I just talked to B of A as well. I signed up through Motley Fool and was told that the rate was the same as AAA. My last statement said 3.__% and they said that the statement was in error. I just received the next statement and it is the same rate. Called again and now they are telling me that 3.6% is correct. Talked to a manager and they said sorry but there is nothing they can do. I was told many times that is was going to be 5.36%. I lost a lot of money keeping the money there. They begged me to work with them while they got the bugs out of the transfer to B of A. Guess if you don't have it in writing it is meaningless.

Did anyone have this problem and get it resolved?

Originally I had AAA, I called to have it changed to NEA the csr said no problem. 5 calls later and nothing was done. Surprise he lied. I have since checked and both links are still active with identical rates (nearly?)

I'm disgusted by this but I am waiting a few more days until I call the seventh time.

We'll see.

I am still confused. Who did you call to have your AAA acct changed to NEA. Was it MBNA before the merger or BOA after the merger?
Your links to AAA, Motley Fool, and NEA do not work.
