MaddHatter said: So sorry for making it sound harder than it has to be apparently. I'll post an update when I know one way or the other on this action. As of this afternoon, roughly 1 business day later, the account is gone from my BOA login summary screen, and if I go into 'my banking' it shows a $0 balance and null account #/status values, so I'll assume my $1.33 is on the way via check and no worries on their upcoming maintenance fees. |

Interesting ... Just called them to close my SavingsLink account and been offered what sounded like $150 promotion. Here are some basic details if I got them right. They still close my SavingsLink but open 2 BofA accounts: one checking, one savings. No minimum balance, free checks, etc. perks. 1st $50 for depositing $250 into the checking and using debit card for purchases once. Another $50 for logging in into their online banking system on 2 different business days and 3rd $50 for depositing $5000 into the savings. Asked them about ACH push and pulls (I had BofA account before but completely forgot what it offered as far as transfers). Representative said, it's free and up to 10 accounts can be linked. Has anybody else tried it yet ? |

I think BofA charges $3.00 for pushing money out on all their accounts. |

However, my last statement had this note: "We value your relationship with Bank of America. If you don’t already have your checking relationship with Bank of America, we're happy to offer you our best checking account with no monthly maintenance fee for 12 months. Call Customer Care at 877.292.2655 to also hear about our cash promotional offer." Maybe that's what they offered you. It kinda sounds like the "cash promotional offer" is something in addition to the no monthly maintenance fee. |

glad i moved all but a few dollars out of my CW account. good riddance. If this was a SavingsLink account, then get those last few dollars out ASAP and close the account. Or else add enough money to avoid the $10 monthly fee. (They are waiving monthly fees until the first statement period closes.) |

Wow just tried my account and surprised to see the fees to transfer money! Even more surprised that you need to jump through hoops to get more than 1,000 at a time. Time to close this account ASAP!!!! |

Just got my check back in the email (whopping 19.94$). Didn't get any retention offers but they probably saw that I didn't have much money in the account for at least 1 year. Thanks OP for the update, never saw it either on my statement. |

MaddHatter said:Erm, got a couple booklets from BOA today telling me about the changeover eff 9/18. Savingslink becomes Growth Money Market, and within one of the booklets I saw a $10 monthly maintenance fee for minimal balances (under 5k I think, maybe 2500). Point being, those of us with a buck or two in there who never bothered closing the account, we probably want to. So to get this out of the way:
What's the least painful way to get this account closed? I was able to close via online chat. At first they wanted me to transfer out my remaining balance ($5) before they could close it, but then they agreed to send me a cashier's check for the balance. |

Reminder to everybody who hasn't noticed: SavingsLink accounts have been converted to Bank of America Growth Money Market accounts. The Growth Money Market Account has a monthly fee of $10. Bank of America is waiving the fee until after the closing date of your first statement. To avoid the fee you must maintain a minimum daily balance of $5000 in your account or link your account to an Advantage or Preferred account. Either bring your balance up to $5000 before you get your next statement or close your account now. Remember, it is not sufficient to just withdraw your money. You must notify Bank of America that you want your account closed. |

Question... Has anyone been able to close their Countrywide accounts in a BofA branch? I tried to close one of my account that is suppose to be converted to the money market account, but they said they can't close in branch. WTH!? But they can withdraw/deposit into it. They said they can zero balance it, but can't close in branch, and I have to call. That makes no sense since Countrywide and BofA was suppose to be merged after that Sept 18th date?! I also have a Countrywide CD maturing later this year. Will I be able to close that in a branch or will I still have to do everything by phone? |

SleepyBum, yes, I've closed my SavingsLink account in a BoA branch. Took almost two hours, but mostly because I had more than 10K in the account (my Countrywide CD matured a couple of days ago, so I called to close it, asked the money to be put into the SL, so I would just walk in, close it, and walk out with a bank check). So with >$10K they tell me they need a signature card, and can't find one for my account in their computer system. Eventually they were able to get someone from their central office on the phone, who was able to find my CW paperwork (the real paper!), and fax it to them. |

My $0.02. Literally. I had $0.02 in the account because I had previously transferred the remaining balance out and was credited $0.02 in interest afterwards. I called up and it only took a few minutes for them to transfer the funds into my BoA checking account and close the former CW account. |

I don't have other BoA accounts, and didn't want to wait for a week for a large check to arrive by mail. ACH out is no longer free (in retrospect, I should have paid the $3 to transfer the money out and saved myself 2 hours of my life). |

I had one-cent in there and now I owe $9.99. |

Me too. I called and converted to regular savings, with a $300 minimum. They waived the fee as a courtesy. I will transfer in the $30 and keep it there to have the benefit of the enhanced BillPay, which I did not have before this account was linked. If it turns out to be a nuisance, I will close later. Anyway, call if you got dinged with the $10 fee and they will probably be reasonable as long as you are courteous. |
