Apologies if this is repost - but I didn't find this topic discussed.
I actually was under impression that AT&T Rewards Card is being discontinued but I found promo on AT&T web site at: http://www.consumer.att.com/ Some of the benefits: Rewards (points) program, 2 free directory assistance calls a month and up to 30 free phone minutes a month, 0% APR on balance transfers for 12 months (however there's a balance transfer fee...)

This card has already been discussed here and is already included in one FFGuru's consolidated CC threads. The sign-up offer seems to alternate between $50 and $100 every few weeks so I guess it's worth noting that it's back to $100 again. As for being discontinued, you're getting this card confused with their CASH rewards card.
Perfect timing. Approved online in 60 seconds. A 1st for me. I needed a no-fee 0% Credit card offer. I was just going through all my offers I got in the mail the last couple of months. This is by far the best. All the others wanted a fee of 3-4% and only lasted about 6 months at 0%.

The $100 has been there for at least 4 months, I got the card about 3 months ago, seems like a pretty stable offer so far. For people that want to keep it for the 5x points on everyday purchases, it might be a good idea to check with the Thankyounetwork about the card, since it seems to have a 12 month period for 5x points and then they go down to 1x, not clearly described on AT&Ts website YMMV

What does that actually mean for someone who is applying for the card now? They are just going to shut it down? If so, why are they even offering this?

It is the CASH card that is being discontinued NOT the REWARDS card. There is another thead that covers the discontinuance of the CASH card. I have the CASH card that is being discontinued. The link for the CASH card has already been removed from their site. However, there is a link to the REWARDS card. AT&T Credit Card Link
I'm a current card holder of AT&T UNIVERSAL CARD. I've received a notice in May that the card will be discontinued at the end of this month.
I think AT&T UNIVERSAL REWARDS CARD is changing the Rewards Program. Currently I can get CASH rewards when the rewards balance is $50+, and limit to $300 per year. Under the new rewards program, I think you can only get points, not CASH, and use the points to exchange gift cards. It's about the same as Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards Card.
I'm going to apply the new card next month when mine is closed.
EDIT: yes, my AT&T UNIVERSAL CARD is CASH card, not REWARDS card.
