This is the most important detail. The offer, in this regard, is almost Orchard Bank league.

Has anyone applied for either the Visa Signature or World MasterCard and found out the issuer?
The application link redirects to the firstusa.com domain

The phone number is 888 848 0540
It's a targeted offer though so I'm sure the code is different for all

Chase, of course.

Chase World Master Card with )% fixed intro APR until March 1st, 2008 on purchases and balance transfers.
No Annual Fees
No Balance Transfer Required
No Balance Transfer fee with this offer

well signature allows you to purchase over limit if you are in good standing..... how about world master .....

I've just been scanning over the T&Cs for both card types and cannot find any differences in the terms other than one is Visa (and qualifies for Signature services) and the other Mastercard (and qualifies for World services)

They have the same APR details, grace period, no annual fee, no BT fee with the offer, no fee for exceeding the credit limit etc.

In both cases if you fail to qualify for that card they will consider you for the Platinum card

Both cards are NPSL - No Preset Spending Limit, similar to AMEX. However, you will be issued a "revolving" credit line, say up to $15k, with a large pad over that. This pad is often 3 times the credit line, i.e. you can charge up to $45k before being shut down (with demonstrated ability to do so without risk, of course). This is how they avoid charging overlimit fees.

Go to www.visa.com/signature to see the benefits of Signature. Likewise, http://www.mastercard.com/us/personal/en/aboutourcards/credit/world_card.html for World. Similar, though Visa's is a bit better.

BTW, Carter is a woman

I have an AMEX Clear card that advertised no fees whatsoever, so I'm curious how I would go about spending over the limit. I have a $2K CL and did a 0% BT of $1,900 recently, and my online account shows an available balance of $100. If I try to charge over $100 won't the card get declined? I guess I'm confused how I'd be able to take advantage of this "pad" you mentioned earlier...

Sorry, good point - I forgot about the "mainstream" AMEX cards. AMEX Green, Gold and Platinum (and Centurion ) are no preset spend limit cards. AMEX Blue and any AMEX card issued by another company (i.e. MBNA/BofA, Citi, etc) are just like everyday credit cards - you don't have to pay it off in full each month, standard fees apply, there is a hard credit limit, etc.

I just try this but ...seem no instant approve.

So far I've applied for three Chase cards - two being the Visa Signature and one Sony. Only the Sony card was instant approval and when I applied for that my credit score was lower. I haven't heard of anyone getting an instant approval for Chase's "premium" cards.

I applied for the Chase Rewards Plus about a month ago and it took about a week before approved. I just applied for this one on Friday, wonder if it will be about the same.

Anyone get it yet?

Keep in mind guys that the way Chase calculates their BT end date is tricky.
Let's say that they advertisze 0% on BT until 3/1/08... what they really mean is that interest will accrue until the FIRST day of the BILLING PERIOD that includes 3/1/08.

Lets say you get your bill on 2/20 and it's due on 3/8. Paying it off by 3/1 isn't good enough because interest began acruing on 2/20. In order to avoid paying a red cent in interest, you need to pay off the entire balance either a) when you the Feb bill is due (say 02/08 on a bill that was issues 01/20) or b) make a seperate payment before 02/20.

Regards,
-g

PS. I made this mistake because the CSR didn't really explain it to me correctly. Luckily I had that documented in my phone call b/c I called prior to the due date to CONFIRM when interest was to be accrued and was given misleading information. A supervisor reversed the ~$60 in interest. I lucked out once but I doubt that will happen again.

An easy way to avoid having to do this is to change your statement's billing cycle so that it is as close to the end of the month as possible. You can do this on-line. You can't actually change the billing date - you have to change the "due date" so you'll have to calculate for yourself what the due date will be for any given billing end date. I have Chase ccs with both 20 and 25 day payment periods, so I want my payment due dates to be around the 17th or 22nd of the month for my statement closing date to be the 28th of the previous month.

Forgot to point out that there's a slight drawback to the method I suggested. It means you might be paying off the entire amount about 10 days earlier than you have to, thus losing the interest. This had not really worried me before, but in thinking about some of my larger BTs (a $24k one with Chase) it would be worth it to pay the minimum payment by the 22nd or so (payment due date) but then schedule a second, larger payment for the rest of the balance by the 27th (one day before the statement closes).

I just got this again, however this time it says Chase "Flexible Rewards World MasterCard". The one I got from last week just says Chase World Mastercard. The T&C seem identical... I wonder what the difference is? The offer codes are different.

do the world mastercards and visa signatures report the revolving credit limit or the HIGH BALANCE on credit reports????

If they are only reporting high balance, this is a sneaky way for issuers to start promoting these cards to be more like Capital One, who just reports high balance

Why would they do that?

alert mods

because some of these "no preset spending limit" cards dont report a credit limit, just the high balance (like CrapOne)

My CapOne card has a preset sending limit...

alert mods

so does my paypal account. but thats irrelevant

CapOne doesnt report credit limits , even on cards which have credit limits. This practice hurts peoples credit as it makes utilization appear high.

My question is NOT about Cap One cards, but to those getting these World Mastercards and Visa Signature cards from other issuers, to see whether they are engaging in the same practice of reporting high balance instead of credit limit.

I understand, but I'm just wondering why they would engage in such a practice...should we start a class action against them?
