I went to Citi Financial Center with DL and they opened my account in 10 minutes. I had no problem at all.

The promo says you have to open the account either by phone (using a number given in the promo, see the OP or the scan in the OP) or in person at Citi Financial Center.

If you open online we don't know what will happen; you may not get the $200.

Anakin

anakinskywalker, did you open a ez-checking account as a "regular Checking" requirement?

khan said: [Q]Unlike other Citi sign-up deals, this code doesn't seem to limit first-time account opener. I had Citi account about 4-5years ago. I am wondering if I can get the bonus with this promo.I got in on the MVR3 deal of a few months back, even though it took some badgering to get my $200 from that one. I closed my checking account about a month ago, but I will open a new one in-branch and try to use this code. Thanks OP!

Anyone know if this would be a hard or soft check? I can't afford anymore hardchecks right now.

Hard

Yes, I opened EZ Checking as a Regular Checking account...

Anakin

Would this work with the Citi AT&T Universal Card?

Soopafly said: [Q]Would this work with the Citi AT&T Universal Card?

The promo simply says you need a Citi card to link and pay bills for. I don't see why Citi AT&T cards should not work... however, nothing is guaranteed... wish you best of luck.

If I were you, I'd take the chance. There is a good chance it might work.

Anakin

By the way, the Citi Financial Center person who opened my account advised me to keep a minimum balance of $1500 in the account AND pay two citi bills every month till i get my $200. I'm planning to do this (though the promo terms do not require these) because it is a small price to pay to make sure Citi CSRs don't get any excuse to deny me my $200.

After I get my bonus I'll move all the money to my linked e-Savings account. The billpays are automatic and will likely remain.

Anakin

I applied for this over the phone tonight (there aren't any local branches) and the first thing that I thought was a little odd is that after I told the csr that I was calling in reference to a promotion I'd received, he actually prompted me and said, "look at the code, does it say MVR4?" So I must say that it was rather painless. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border=0>

I guess now I'll just see how everything goes.

Edited: Well so much for painless. They're saying they couldn't confirm any of my information and requested fax copies of my utility bill, phone bill, and a letter from my employer. I better not have any problems getting the bonuses after this! grrrr

I'm probably gonna open an account tomorrow. And I just opened a checking account with WaMu <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border=0>

Done...took 14 minutes on the phone. Thanks.

So I went to the branch (it's about .5 mi from my work), and the CSR wanted the printout/ad/etc. So I walked out.

I called them on the phone, and the CSR on there accepted my promo code. Hopefully, it'll work. It took about 15-20 minutes.

The flight ticket may be better (if you were planning on getting a ticket over the $200 value), but I wasn't planning on flying anywhere in particular this year.

One important thing that the CSR said. To pay the Citi CC bill, you have to use a transfer, and not bill pay.

Did anyone open this w/ credit card fund?

Opened in a supermarket branch today. Even though I got $200 from the MVR3 promo only a couple of months ago and closed my checking account soon after, I had no problem opening a new one with MVR4.

I opened EZ Access checking with $50. That's the type of account I had previously, and I paid myself 2 small payments per month to avoid fees.

You may also be able to get $200 by using online banking. I've done this twice. Just update promo code on page two to current code.

No go online. I called twice and was told the same thing "No credit card fund".

The link has a fine print:

Open and fund a Citibank EZ Checking account online and deposit at least $1,500 by 5/31/2005

So, it passed by over a year now. Does it still work?

both B&M locations I went to said that I needed to bring the flyer in.
Will it work over the phone, or will they really cross-check against who received the mailing?

The guy at my B&M location asked to see the promotion, so I just gave him a print-out of the scan. He went ahead and set it up. Now to see if I'll encounter problems like all the other checking account promos (previous Citi offers, BoA, etc.)

Won't know for 90-120 days, eh.

Hey all. Fairly new to all this, so please bear with me... I'm looking into trying this out as well. Following both this and this thread, ING and Paypal transfers count as direct deposits with CitiBank.

Question: Assuming I don't care for the TY points at the moment, is a $1 monthly transfer enough to keep the E-Z Checking account free? The first thread linked discussed both a DD and bill pay, but I was unclear on whether both were being done so that points were also maximized. Thanks! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border=0>

Didn't seem to have any problem using this code over the phone. Gave the guy the code and he read to me the description of the offer. The only hard part was trying to understand his rough english.

Can this be done online?

Did you even bother to read the thread? The same question was asked and answered multiple times.

BTW, yes I did and I couldn't find it in a reasonable amount of time...

You better start spending more time reading then.

Applied over the phone, rep said they will call me within a week to confirm the application and some stuff. Funded with bankaccount, no credit card funding like BoFA. BTW a balance of $1500+ on any citi card counts for min balance requirement for no fee, have a 12month 0% free BT option with my new Simplicity card, time to use it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border=0>.

You need to do some reading more than posting pal <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border=0>

Found the answer to my question...thanks to all of you who offered your support!

This thread is pretty short as of now. If you cannot read even this much in "a reasonable amount of time" then FWF will likely be of no use to you. This is a forum for people who can read reasonably fast.

Anakin

PS: Note that each jerk who asks a question already answered earlier adds useless posts to the thread making it less useful to, and wasting the valuable time of, others who are willing to take the time to read through the crap to find what they need.

PS2: If you can't spare the time to read what we have written, please do not ask us questions. We will not have the time to read what you write.

Congratulations ! Sounds like you made a great achievement !

I had no idea it was so hard for some people to read a few posts on such a short thread. Are you just learning to read ?

Anakin

PS: I don't think anybody here offered you any support.

You tell the guy to search for his answer, and then when he finds the answer on his own you insult him? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border=0>

City not always do what they say. I jump in last year's CD3J promotion. It is said If you set up direct deposit plus 2 online bill pay each moth, You will got $50 for each 3 month and $200 for a year. I did what they say for more than 9 month, but i just get one $50 for the first 3 month. Citi does do what they say. Although I called them many times, there are still no postitive response. I feel very bad about this experience. It is really bother when you want to get the money. I will not trust them on what they say. What they do is the most important. So think about it before you do it.

I'm not so sure non-citizens can apply online. someone earlier on in this thread said they could, guess that's a Ymmv. Some dude told me I'd have to go into the nearest branch to apply. Sucks. I'll try again later and keep you guys posted.

Edit:
Haha I guess i spoke too soon. I just called back and got a super cool rep. He gave me some nice tips on how to get around the whole monthly fee thing and I wrote them down(They were good tips to me, some of you may already know this stuff).

Anyway I thought I'd share for others like me who might still be in the dark.

When you open a citi-card account ...most people generally open an EZ-savings account. There are three ways to go around the monthly fee (Varies by state, for TX it was $9.50)
1) Direct deposit every month - there are several threads here that show you can use paypal, ING direct etc.
2) Two automatic bill payments per month
3) $1500 Combined Balance on all citicard accounts placed under one household.

Q:What does option 3 mean???
A:If you open a checkings account and a savings account with citibank at two different times, call them and have them group the accounts together. Then as long as you have a combined amount of $1500 in both these accounts for a period of 15-20 days every month you're set! No monthly fee, No Per cheque fee.

What did I do?
I opened up an EZ checking account with $5 as a base (Note: You dont require to have a basic minimum amount if you're from TX, again this varies by state) and I also opened up an e-savings account.
E-savings account by citi offers 5% APY and 4.88% APR.

EDIT: Removed the Math...I just learnt that this interest is compounded, leaving me with $5 at the end of the year as interest.

Also, by following options 1, 2 OR 3, you can use your citibank debit card upto 5 times every month at any ATM without a charge from citibank. After the 5th time you will get charged $1.50.

I was asked to provide my SSN, Drivers licence, and my credit card info for proof. Hope that helps. Thanks y'all.

What does that mean???
If I put $100 into my e-savings account at the end of each month I will get $4.88 in interest AND at the end of 12 months I will get 5% of ($4.88 X 12 months) = $2.928.
Therefore my combined total at the end of the year for placing $100 in e-savings will be $61.488.

Nice return...! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border=0>
