Someone, anyone...
I'm torn between this and the E-LOAN account. Any thoughts? The advantage here is that it appears you have more flexibility moving your money around. E-LOAN offers a higher rate and (reportedly) fast transfers between accounts.
The disadvantage to E-LOAN is the one linked account restriction.
What are people's experiences with the Capital One account? Fast, slow transfers? Decent service? What? I'm at HSBC now and miserable because of the slow transfers and because EVERYTHING is so difficult.
Any thoughts are appreciated. |

Transfers are usually 3 days but have had some done in 2 days. That is about the only downside of account. Pluses are very good CSR, free checks and you can write 3 a month so nice way to pay a big bill and get float, Also means you can get your money out with no delay. Also Capitol One is a very strong bank, Bankrate has them at 5 stars. |

ltcm said:What have your experiences been moving money in and out of this account? Is it quick to transfer it back to checking (thinking of AOR money going into this account).I just pushed $ from GMAC to Costco/CapOne (why do I always do this before rate change?) on 4/17. Money left GMAC 4/17 and arrived at Costco/CapOne 4/19. I've only withdrawn by check so can't speak to ACH withdrawal speed. Anyone? |

Just noticed they dropped regular account to 4.76% and costco to 5%. Good thing account has check writing, $100k more going into my BoA NEA account tomorrow. Still have another 30 days of bonus rate. Just got statement online and got 6.44% |

That's a bummer - just after I finally got the account setup and sent 5K to them. 5% is still good, but not great. |

There is usually a couple of days hold depending upon how you sent the money in. Check to be sure - call and ask when will the money be available for withdrawal. |

I'm a little bummed at CapOne. I had already done my initial deposit of $5K before being told that the funds wouldn't be available for 11 business days. Will I earn interest on them during this time or am I just screwed w/ respect to interest?
Secondly, I opened the account to get the $50 Exec. Member bonus through Costco. Does any one have any experience with how quickly this bonus gets funded? I'd like to take the $$$ out ASAP and put it in my new FNBO account since CapOne dropped the rate to a full 1% below FNBO. Can I just withdraw my $5K as soon as it's available and still qualify for the bonus?
Thanks everyone. |

You will earn interest from the date the funds are collected. The 9 - 11 business day hold is normal for new accounts (blame it on the Patriot Act).
I don't know about the bonus, but check to see if there is a penalty for closing the account before 6 months. |

Thanks for a quick response. I'm glad I'll get the interest on the $. I wasn't planning to close the account b/c (for my understanding) it has no fees or minimums, so I just planned to leave $1 in it in the case that it becomes competitive again in the future and I can quickly move $ back into it. |

As far as the bonus goes, wife & I opened accts on 4/10, and bonus was credited 5/4. |

Thanks, I'll go ahead and leave the $ in there then for a month or so. It would be stupid to miss out on $50 for the sake of one month's interest on 5K at 1% higher. |

why asap? how much money do you think your $5,000 will get you in your whopping 6% apy fnbo account? hmm, maybe a $25 difference in half a year? vs the capitalone account at 5%.
you should try doing the math sometime. if you don't have that much money, the difference is minimal between different apy's.
and regarding your deposit not being available-and somebody else saying it's cause the patriot act-if you would have wired it in, it would have been available immediately (wire using wamu-it's free)
edit: it was $25, not $2.50. still, negligible imo |

I got a mailing today marked "Updated Account Information Enclosed" 1. They are consolidating operations and mving the money market account from Capital One, F.S.B. to Capital One, N.A. Still FDIC insured. 2. The current money market rates for all tiers (as of May 15th -- thanks, guys) are 4.88% APR = 5.0% APY, although balances below $100 do not earn interest. 3. The enclosed brochure "Money Market Account and Electronic Funds Transfer Agreement" in very tiny type had a very interesting condition in the paragraph titled "Your account balance": "The amount shown on our records will be accepted as the balance of your account unless you can show differently. Balances shown on our web site or through our automated telephone service are not official records. So even if they let you go paperless, don't do it! |

Capital One must be getting desperate, I just got a call from them telling me that the Costco account just went back to 5.20%. Did not have the heart to tell them that it's still to low. |

I just had them return a $36,000 BT check from chase. Has any one else had that happen? They returned it with a note saying they don't take credit card convenience checks. |
