1ofushere said:There will be an auction on Wednesday, December 13 of a 9-YEAR 11-MONTH 4 5/8% Treasury NOTE. This is a reopening of a Note auctioned in November, 2006. The published results: High Yield = 4.580% with a price of 100.348304, plus accrued interest of $ 3.83287 per $1,000 to be paid for the period from November 15, 2006 to December 15, 2006. TreasuryDirect auction participants get the high yield. Note the slight "premium" in the price as mentioned in my previous post.

Does anyone have any suggestion as to which dealer would have the lowest commissions when buying FHLB bonds? I've spoiled with the easy TreasuryDirect T-bills. |

You can buy any agency/gse bond at Fidelity for free as long as you buy it at issue.
If you buy it after it's issued, its $1.00 per bond. |

"For all fixed income transactions a $19.95 minimum and a $500 maximum charge will apply. The maximum charge will be reduced to $50 for securities with a maturity date of one year or less. Minimum and maximum charges are the same regardless of channel (online, phone or branch representative)." |

If you call one of their reps, they'll tell you that there is also no transaction fee for buying muni, agency/gse, or corporate bonds at issue. |

bejota3,
Yes, I understand the "at issue" free transactions. I was relating to your mention of a $1 a bond charge which is NOT applicable to the "at issue" transactions. 'just didn't want some FW readers to think that they could acquire a "not at issue" agency bond at a net cost of $1.
And, Thanks for reminding us of the Fidelity fixed income brokerage services for Agency/GSE paper. |

Does anyone out there have experience with Zions Direct for purchasing bonds? They have a $10.95 flat commission per transaction. And the offered bond Yield To Maturities (YTM) don't seem unduly lower (to otherwise hide a high markup). The thing about purchasing bonds is that you have to look at the commission and also the final YTM to make sure you're not being charged a lot. http://www.zionsbank.com/zd_bonds_less.jsp |

Treasury Direct is offering 2-year and 5-year notes next week. Here's the press release.
The 2-year Notes will be auctioned Wednesday the 27th and the 5-year Notes on Thursday the 28th. Both will be issued Tuesday January 2nd, but both will be DATED December 31st. This means that both will mature on December 31st of the appropriate year, so keep that in mind when planning taxes. |

I have no experiences to share re: bond trading with Zionsbank. But, I do applaud your posting of this resource to assist FW readers in 'getting a handle' on the Agencies and longer term Treasury notes and bonds market.
If the yield curve does keep moving in the direction toward the "normal" historical shape of higher yields with extending maturities, I do expect this FW topic will get much more readership. In fact, one could make an argument that the agency paper which is exempt from state and local income taxes as are Treasuries, is more attractive now than the 26 week T-bills at auction.
Hopefully, FW members will add to this topic's shared resources. |

Since TIPS are a form of T-Note, I thought I'd post the auction news here also for this Thursday's auction of 10-Year TIPS. (Auction Thursday the 11th, issued Tuesday the 16th, issue date Monday the 15th which is a holiday)
If you're interested in TIPS (or just want to know what they are) I recommend the TIPS thread for further reading. |

If you're wondering where your 1099-INT is (because it's not on the TreasuryDirect web site yet), here's their answer:
Hi,
The 1099-INT is not available at this time. It will be available before the end of January. You will receive an e-mail notification and an Investor InBox message when the tax information is available. At that time the message that it will be available will be a link that you can click on to print the form.

An announcement of an auction of a 20 year TIPS has been released - your copy is here or at http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/of/releases/2007/ofp011807.pdf .
Any FW readers interested in the auction of Public Debt (Treasury) issues should consider subscribing to email announcements of upcoming auctions as well as the results of auctions. This can be done here or at http://www.treasurydirect.gov/maillist/maillist.htm .
For your planning purposes, if you would like to see the auctions tentatively planned for Public Debt in the next few months, the schedule is available here or at http://www.treas.gov/offices/domestic-finance/debt-management/auctions/auctions.pdf . Using that 'one-sheet', you will be aware of the upcoming announcements next Monday of auctions for 2 and 5 year issues. |

Investment Resources desired -
Although FW readers will find many posts in this topic re: US Public Debt auctions, there are indeed federal agencies that are raising funds as well. For an example, go to the Fidelity web site here or http://fixedincome.fidelity.com/fi/FICorpNotesDisplay?name=FANNIE&refpr=obrfind9 to see some new issue agency offerings. My understanding is that Fidelity does not charge any fee or commission if these > new issues < are bought through Fidelity.
As one can see, for high state income tax payers, there are some issues ( those that are state income tax free ) available which can be considered as an alternative to the currently available 3 yr and + CD 6.25% APY at the Penfed Credit Union as mentioned in the FW topic here or at http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=52&threadid=688552 .
I believe this FW 'Treasury notes and Agency/GSE' topic would benefit from the mentioning of tools and resources which can be used to see US federal agency - both new issues and secondary market items, and secondary market Treasury items which are available. I mentioned the Fidelity link above as it is the best available resource I am aware of at present. This resource was shared by a FW member in a different FW topic. I have no personal financial interest with Fidelity.
So I ask you - are you aware of any other web-based resource, available to individuals without the need of an account with the resource, where US federal agency and treasury issues can be viewed? If so, I ask you to consider sharing info for such resources in this topic to expand FW readers' awareness of such resources.
Thanks. |

The Treasury has just announced the next auction of 2-year Notes on January 24th and 5-year Notes on January 25th, both to be issued on January 31st.
(The 20-year TIPS which are also to be issued January 31st will be auctioned on January 23rd. Will the price of these TIPS influence the price of the shorter term Notes?) |
