This is supposed to be an informative thread, giving the time interval needed to wait until you can reapply for cards from an issuer.
Structure of info:
A. Issuer B. How many cards in what time interval C. (if needed): Other restrictions (a recurring issue here is the maximum credit extended by creditors, based on the applicant's declared income, the total available credit, the debt amount and maybe the debt/total credit ratio)
Citi: 2 new cards in 60 days, both personal and biz cards. Professional cards seem to form a third, independent category. The 3 cards limit seems to be only a myth.
AmE><: ???
Chase At least 3 cards approved in an AOR Wait 6 months if application rejected
MBNA: ???
A. Discover B. N/A C. For students: Students only allowed one Discover card (unless, of course, you can claim appropriate income to obtain a non-student card.
HSBC: ??? In some applications they state "Maximum 2 open cards with this issuer", but more than 2 CC's have been reported.
WaMu (former Providian): Only 1 application in 60 days Limit 1 card
Advanta: maximum one card
Juniper: 2 cards maximum
etc.etc. (I'll complete the OP as soon as I'll get the information from you.)
I tried applying for a wamu card shortly after they purchased providian when they sent me a targetting offer for the wamu branded card. They rejected me because I already had the providian one. Pretty lame if you ask me , especially since I was responding to a soliciated offer.
Chase has the thing with waiting 6 months if you are declined for a card....I dont know how many cards you can apply for in an AOR...seems like folks have did 3 easily....

Advanta, as far as I could glean from other threads, is a one and done deal. Someone was denied for a reason along the lines of "you already have an Advanta card"
Juniper seems to allow 2 cards max. You can go for the 2 at once.
Citi treats personal and business cards separately, you can get 2 of each at a time.
i have 2 citi, 1 quickencard citi,and 1 citi business.

My experience may or may not be helpful. I got my first Chase card in early May, and a second in early June. In July I applied for a Hess Gas Station card and was rejected by Chase (it was a Chase card, I didn't realize it when I applied). I got a letter saying that not enough time had elapsed since I applied for a card with Chase. Now in August I applied and was accepted for another Chase card. (And yes, this will be my last one from Chase for now). Why the Hess card was rejected I don't get, nor why I was accepted so soon after being rejected. I guess its YMMV.

I believe its still just 3 per person unless they have changed in the last year. Other banks don't seem to care, you have have dozens of MBNA cards.
I have 4 Citi personal cards. A guy that worked at Citi once posted that there is no limit to # of cards, but rather a limit on how much credit they are willing to extend.

Got all of these within the last 19 months. Im getting ready to do a mini apporama next.
2 chase ( the 150 and 100 schwab offer) about 3 months apart 2 rewards citi (100 offer) about 4 months apart 1 simplicity (100 offer)year later or so Citipremier (150 offer) 5 months or so between
So that is 3 "regular" Citi cards and one business. I would like to get a few more citi $100 offers, if they would let me.
A. Discover B. N/A C. For students: Students only allowed one Discover card (unless, of course, you can claim appropriate income to obtain a non-student card.
It's possible to get at least 2 Am3x cards in a short interval - I got 2 (Delta and IN:NYC) in my recent AOR.

the reason for chase saying 6 months is it typically takes that long to make any large change in a fico score, as a PQA for chase I can say emphatically that I have seen customers with 6,7+ accts, no limit based on credit worthiness.
