The only purpose of this thread is to compare notes about what's making the new quicken version unstable.
We have a thread focused on whether quicken 2007 is worth the money to upgrade. All posts concerning reviews, general impressions of the program, etc would fit nicely there.
So far, I've noticed that Quicken Home and Business 2007 will crash every time I do a "one-step-update" that includes any of my Capital One credit cards. Once those are removed, I have a better than 50% chance that it will complete without crashing.
Other notes about what causes and fixed problems for you would be appreciated.
Users like you can add images, links and other relevant information about this topic.

I have a Cap one card I never use but it is included in my 1 set update. And my quicken never crashes when doing 1 set update.
Only problem I have noticed with Quicken is when I goto Home Inventory I get out of memory error and program quits.
Here is a list of banks in 1 set update.
AMEX - direct connect BOA - direct connect Citi- Direct connect for all checking and savings and credit cards and web connect for CD and brokerage. Chase - direct connect Cap One - direct connect HSBC - direct connect Fidelity - direct connect Ingdirect - web connect MBNA - web connect Vanguard - direct connect

I have Quicken Home and Business 2007 just like you. Yes I have only 1 Cap one card. Only reason I dont cancel it is because it was opened in 1988 so it one of my older cards. Personally I think Cap one is one of the worst CC compaines out there. There rewards program sucks. They never offered a good BT as even on there 0% offers there is a 3% no cap fee. My interest rate is is fixed 6.99% but I never carry a balance so that is a mute issue for me.

Thanks, interesting. Perhaps its the comibation of my high number of accounts (100+) and the cap1 update that causes the problem.

LOL could be I have no where near 100 accounts. I have 21 accounts total between banking, brokerage and credit cards. I am only connecting to 12 places to get all thoses downloaded. That is counting Citibank 2X 1 for direct connect and 1 for web connect. Btw I forget USAA account which direct downloads.
Maybe you running into a memory limitation or something.

Your experience does suggest that perhaps I'm encountering some weird combination glitch or the like.

I got Q2007 Premium and about 2 dozen accounts (no cap1 though) but it's never really crashed on me. Now and then (more often than with Q2006), it doesn't update accounts very smoothly but it's not crashing at least.
I noticed that it doesn't like anything that takes upload bandwidth. It probably competes with connecting to various institutions and may time out on some of them resulting in errors.
Did you see any of this reported on the quicken 2007 forums on their support site?

I have home and business 2007 too. I only have it set to update with discover card (where it automatically dl's transactions w/out me having to login to discover's site).
Out of 10 times, it might crash 8 or 9 times. Pretty bad IMO. It's not one of the crashes where the application has caused a fault of somesort, it just completely shuts the program down, no message, no nothing. At least the data is not lost.
I'm almost at the point where I'm ready to go back to the 2006 version and wait for sp1 or sp2 of 2007 to come out. Fortunately I only have to enter a few transactions to bring 2006 back up to date.
Why do people bother with the latest and greatest accounting software? It is not like a video game where the graphics get better every year.
Get a good, solid version with all of the features that you like and use it for years. V 2005 or 2006 will be cheaper and more stable now that the problems have been addressed.
I can't believe that release qualify (or lack thereof) on newer versions of quicken/quickbooks. How do they convince people to shell out the money for the latest version?

Dave Quicken released a patch that address some of the issues you are having here is what the new updates fixes quoted from Intuit web page:

In this update we made changes to investing and online banking, and added the ability to choose background colors in Quicken Centers.
Quicken 2007 Release 2 Notes
Implemented a customer suggestion to provide the ability to modify colors in Quicken Centers. Fixed an issue where the "Spending by Payee" snapshot didn't allow the capability to customize the snapshot by payee. Online Banking
Fixed the following problems: During download, Quicken displays the "Quicken is out of Memory" message and halts the download. Quicken incorrectly lists a financial institution in the "Not Available" area in One Step Update. Quicken crashes while trying to activate an existing account for online account access. Credit Card accounts change from the Business Center to the Cash Flow Center after completing a One Step Update session (Quicken Home & Business only). Investing
Fixed the following problems: Quicken incorrectly displays the correct total for BUYMF and SELLMF transactions. Basically, Q2006H&B would fail after 10 FIs, 20 login IDs and 46 accounts.
Q2007H&B R1 dramatically raised the number that could be downloaded via Direct Connect (DC).
I got up to 12 FIs, 53 login IDs and 68 accounts before I ran out of accounts.
In addition, I was able to download 8 FIs, 12 login IDs and 14 accounts via Express Web Connect (EWC).
That's in addition to my DC accounts.
Q2007H&B R2 crashes with just 1 EWC account added to my regular DC downloads.
I can successfully download all my DCs, or all my EWCs, but just not together.
Of course, one of the most valuable features of Q2007H&B is the ability to do OSU and SU with EWC. so I did some trial and error.
I selected all my EWC accounts, i.e. 8 FIs, 12 IDs, 14 accounts.
Then I started adding DC accounts till Q2007H&B R2 crashed.
I was able to add 4 FIs, 8 IDs and 12 accounts before failure.
So, I go from 20 FIs, 61 IDs, 82 accounts down to 12 FIs, 24 IDs and 26 accounts with the update to R2.
Before people start suggesting re-installs, etc., I tried this out on my laptop again, works with R1, fails with R2.
The workaround is that I do all my EWCs and some DCs via SU, and do OSU to pick up all my other DCs.
When OSU fails, Q2007H&B R2 just spontaneously exits.
When SU fails, I note some very odd behavior.
At the scheduled time, the usual SU arrows will appear in the Windows Tray.
If I try to start Q2007, I get the usual "A schedule update is currently running ..."
If I wait a few seconds, I can then start up Q2007H&B, and the only clue that a SU did not complete is that the update times in the OSU Summary would be from the previous running of SU.
It would be nice to have the "unlimited" ceiling of R1 back, but R2 seems to have squashed the re-classification "feature," and that is more important to me.
Long story short, R2 is a keeper for me, with a little bit of juggling

Sorry, I just copied and pasted my original post to the Quicken support forum, and there is a shorthand used there which may not be familiar to people who don't frequent that forum.
I guess it would be like copying a post from here into the Quicken forum, and people going: "What the #$@* is an AOR?" <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border=0>
Anyway, here goes:
DC = Direct Connect EWC = Express Web Connect (New feature in Q2007, still quite buggy) FI = Financial Institution ID = Identification/Identity/Identifier OSU = One Step Update Q2006H&B = Quicken Premier Home & Business 2006 Q2007H&B = Quicken Home & Business 2007 R1 = Release one, usually the first commercial release R2 = Release two, the first maintenance release SU = Schedule Updates

There were two bugs that affected me.
The first was probably the BIG reason Intuit rushed out R2 before they could fully debug the Express Web Connect (EWC) feature.
1) Doing a transfer of shares between brokerage accounts leaves the cost basis in the original account unchanged, so I would end up with a loss amounting to the value of shares transferred.
I got around that by doing a sell, then transfer cash, and a buy in the destination account.
Obviously that was VERY undesirable from reality, performance, and tax standpoints.
2) I like to re-categorize all my credit credits into the Liability group.
That way, my multitude of credit cards with 0 balances are not cluttering up my first Quicken screen page.
I also like to see my investment accounts in that first page, instead of having them bumped down by credit cards.
In Q2007H&B R1 certain EWC credit cards insist on popping back up into the credit card group after they are updated via OSU or SU.
Capital One, RBS, State Farm and U.S. Bank cards would do that.
BoA/MBNA cards like my Fidelity and Merrill+ cards would stay put in Liability.
R2 makes me much happier in that I can see most of my investments account in the first screen page.

It is a Quicken, not Windows problem and no luck so far with tech support suggestions (uninstall/reinstall, rename app data folder, thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border=0>.
I'm really wishing I hadn't upgraded at this point...any ideas what the problem may be? TIA
