no.

you lose the 30k bonus points if going through cardoffers.

ohh sorry looked the same except for that I guess

Green for you. This card has unique bonus catagories (cell phone bill, USPS, resturants all get 5 points each (in addition to the [maybe not so much anymore] standard gas, groceries, pharmacies)). $20k/yr [deleted] gets you (legit) HHonors Gold status.

40k points (10k bonus + 30k for $5k spend) will get you one night at some of the top Hilton Hotels which would normally cost $500/night or even higher, or 2 nights at some lower-end hotels. You can also exchange for miles, but you get the best exchange rate for hotels.

Could this be part of the continued devaluation of the program points? I know many members gave up on collecting points after they jacked up the points needed to stay at most of the lesser locations, earlier this year, I think.

Calling these "miles" as you do in the title is misleading, these are points and in general Hilton points are not as valuable as airline miles.

Good catch.. I just fixed the title... Sorry about that

what purchases get bonus pt.s with this card?

4When you present your Hilton HHonors account number at check-in or reservation at a participating Hilton Family hotel, you will receive your standard HHonors Base points. In addition, you will earn 5 HHonors bonus points for each eligible dollar spent on the Hilton HHonors® Platinum Credit Card from American Express for a qualified stay at a participating Hilton Family hotel. You will also receive 5 HHonors bonus points per eligible dollar at qualifying U.S. supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations that are not departments of superstores or warehouse clubs, at U.S restaurants, the U.S Postal Service and for wireless phone service (purchase, less returns).

How depressing I got this card last month, and already charged 5k on mine booo

The double dip is from the Hilton HHonors program, not from this card.

That shouldn't be hard to do...that like what, 18,000 years from now?

[Calling these "miles" as you do in the title is misleading, these are points and in general Hilton points are not as valuable as airline miles.]

I used the points many times. I always stay at Hampton Inn with Opt level (7500 pts) or level 1 (10000). With three/four people stay free (totally) + breakfast buffet, it saves me a lot of money. Besides, Hampton Inn usually is rated at 3-diamond with many amenities including free wireless internet.

Not all Hampton Inn required only 7500/10000 pts. You have to search through their web site, and plan the trip early especially on peak season. You also earn 500 pts each time you booked online.

To earn more free pts, you can join e-rewards to fill survey online, and redeem $50 level with 3000 HH pts.

I tried to book an international flight using NW 600,000 miles in Aug. I found one flight available on 12/25 back in Apr, but disappeared on Aug. I had to change my schedule to spring break next year. The free flight on 3/31 Sat asked me transfer here and there, also must stay at a hotel or airport on 3/31 night. Finally I booked 3/30 Fri flight at 6:30 AM without staying hotel overnight, but still have to stay at Detroit 7 hours waiting for transfer. When my wife tried to book the same filght/schedule with 600,000 miles, it's all gone! Besides, it is not totally free, I still have to pay around $60.

For me redeem the HH pts are much better than redeem NW airlines miles.

Are you sure about highlighted? Where did you hear about it?

Overall how does this card compare to Starwood (SPG) AMEX?

Looking again at what I based that on, it says 60k base points in a year, and I don't think CC points count as base points, I guess I was confusing the two since 60k lined up with $20k spending. I will edit my post to avoid confusion.

Actually CC points do count for status purposes. So as long as you accrue 60k points in your HH account you will get gold status.

Source?

CC spend points are not base points. One needs 60k base points for Gold VIP per HHonors rules.
Alternatively, the official word is if you spend $20k on Hilton AMEX (receiving from 60k to 100k points for that spend), you get the same gold. There are rumors that just 60k points coming from AMEX is enough, but I haven't seen a proof yet...

Very good to know - I try to plan a "honeymoon" every year on someone else's dime.

Does that mean you marry a new guy every year just to get a "honeymoon"?

evanm said: Untrue - I have accrued over 100K points and am still silver
In a 1 year period, all from CC spend? I would call and ask why you haven't been upgraded to gold, as AMEX themselves makes the claim that $20k spend a year gets you gold.

However, HHonor's "1 year" is rolling. AMEX's is per cal year.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I have 10K from signing up for AMEX, 15K for Visa, 10K for my first 4 stays, 9K from e-rewards and stays=44K points not from CC spend. The other 56K points is from CC spend, half of that at the 5% reward level and the other half at 3% which I estimate to be a total of $15K. Evidently I need to spend another 5K...

ProfessorEd said: Does that mean you marry a new guy every year just to get a "honeymoon"?

Nah, I just try to teach the same old dog a few new tricks.

The application allows applying for people that already have the card, anyone knows how that combines with the offer?

The bonus is 40,000 points if you don't stay at Hilton family hotels and 50,000 points if you do the four stays to earn the 2,500 points per stay.

I magically changed to gold after my last statement. That was quick!

You definitely need to spend $20K for gold, not just get 60K points...

Is there an offer code available? I called to confirm that the card I applied for would be eligible for the 30K bonus points, but the CSR said they could not confirm with certainty without an offer code.

thanks!

This may be a dumb question but if you don't already have a HHonors card, do they automatically assign you one with the card or do you have to sign up separately?

Not a very good card compared to Starwood.

duna said: Not a very good card compared to Starwood.
Not bad for the bonus catagories, and no annual fee.

Plus if you were looking for hotel points (and not mile transfer), Hilton has a lot more properties. Last I checked the rewards tables were about 1:3, which coorosponds with the points earning.

Perhaps OP could point out that the 50k points is really "up to", especially since it involves hotel stays AND a sizeable purchase.

Is there any links or offer codes? I want to make sure i get the bonus points for spending the money in a certain amount of time!!

Actually it looks like you only get 15K bonus point when you spend $5K in the first five months - the other 15K points are the minimum you would receive when you spend $5K since the card gives you at least 3 points per $1 spent. But the 10K bonus for each of your first four stays is a really nice deal if you stay at hilton Family hotels, I've stayed at Hampton and hilton Garden Inns for $100/night.

I would just take a screenshot of the offer page, I don't think there have been many problems reported with people not getting points on this card - I know I didn't.
