Any existing Chase card holders can convert, just call the customer support number on your existing Chase card.

Has anyone done this and do you know if you'll lose any existing points you currently have on the card?

the csr i spoke to said any existing points would transfer over to the new card -

I mean wouldn't "freedom" in the name be an asset after 9/11?A lot of people were angry at the name change and thought Chase was trying to capitalize right after the tragic event...

now that 5 years have passed , they are all too eager to capitalize on the tragic event

Or maybe it has the FreedomCard name because you can go from points to cash and back again.

I just converted my old "Platinum" card to the new Freedom card. Chose the Cash Back option. Thanks OP.

With that, Chase Perfect card had really no use. I have enough Citi/Chase accounts to cover me in the 5% purchases throughout the year, which looks like it may coming to an end. For me, I may be switching one of my 3 Chase cards to the new Freedom card to be used just for fast food.Did you get the notice from Citi awhile ago saying that they're changing the terms of their Dividend Platinum card? The 5% rebate on gas and groceries is going away and being replaced by something else (2%, I think), and to make it seem like not such a bad deal, they're adding a few store categories (I think fast food). I'm actually looking at this thread because I'm looking for something to replace my Citi Dividend Card. I have a card that gives me 1.25% back on everything, and was using the Citi card only for gas and groceries. At 2%, it's a lot less worthwhile for me to use separate cards. So if I can find someone else that'll give me more back on gas and groceries, I'll use their card instead.

(I don't recall the effective date on Citi's reduced benefits, but I think I have the notice somewhere on my desk)

What are you talking about, it's right here.Given that this Cash Plus card offers 5% on gas and groceries, what's the incentive to get the 3% Freedom card?? I guess it's the "Freedom to get smaller rewards" program?

Anyhow, it looks like I may have found a card to replace my Citi Dividend Platinum Select card, now that Citi is reducing the Cash Back for that card.

Best bet is to go to the thread on here about Chase Rewards Plus and use the link for it if it still works....and see if you can sneak in for a last shot at 5% Rewards..... Can't guarantee it will remain as such...but unlike Citi, Chase did "grandfather us"...whether they will eventually change it is anyone's guess.....If the link no longer works, your best bet would be the new Chase Freedom Card....not as good as Rewards Plus, but better then what Citi is going to give you now....

Applied and got approved for the "5%" Rewards Plus. Will see if they keep the 5% when I get the card...

Does a supermarket count as a grocery store for the purposes of Chase's rebate?

Redeem your points for gift certificates, hotel stays, car rentals, travel on most airlines with no blackout dates, or merchandise. Choose a reward for as few as 1,000 points.

Reach $50 in rewards and redeem for a $50 check. Or, save up to $200 in rewards and redeem for $250 Cash Back!

When you reach $600 in spending in these categories in a billing cycle, you will only earn the 1% Cash Back for each $100 on these categories of net purchases.

0% introductory APR for 12 months. No annual fee.

No sign up bonus at this point.

Between my wife and me, we received the notice from Citi reducing the rewards on 3 accounts. I haven't received the notice yet on one Citi account that was transferred from AT&T 2 months back. So hopefully I will have the 5% on that Citi card for a while. I also have the Chase Plus for 5%. However, seems like all the 5% cards will be gone in a few months. 3% may be the second best.

To anyone who has converted an old card into Chase Freedom, does you're "member since" stay the same, or do they officially "close" the old account and open the new account?

I have a student card that I have had for ~3years, but the rewards are terrible. I also have a Cash Plus Visa that I opened this year. Chase doesn't have any other "great" cards available, so I'm thinking about converting my student card into the Freedom so I can at least get the 3% on "quick" restaurants, but if it will mess with my account history, it's not worth it.

Applied early AM on 9/19, got answer within 30 days, now the link is dead. They did pull experian on the 19th and TC FAKO around 770 w/ 14% overall utilization. Wonder if I'll get a different card or rejected or who knows what. I'm trying to stock up on the 5% everyday cards, but I'm refusing that HSBC Direct Rewards because of past WorstBuy experience with them (they lowered limit to $0 for inactivity then refused to reopen and suggested I re-apply while the acct. shows open on my CRs).

LOL -- "Need help finding the right rewards card?" It's at the bottom right of the OP's link. Give it a try.

Thanks for proving my point. I have no idea what that what I was supposed to do at that website you linked to but it most deifinitely was not a Chase Cash Plus or Rewards Plus application. My point is that if you cannot find and apply for the card off of Chase.com, if you cannot call the Chase credit card 800 number and apply for the card, if you have to find some special link off of a deal site, and even then SOME people report back that they get a different card than they applied for....can the card really be good for the long haul? Nothing is guaranteed with CCs but you have to ask yourself if Chase is not allowing new customers to easily apply for this card, they don't really want the business with this card. Any company that doesn't want business with their own product is not going to keep it around.

By the way, I have Cash Plus and Rewards Plus and I'm using them both. If you can get them, more power to you. I'm just saying I appreciate this thread because when/if the day comes that the * Plus cards go away I'll probably ask to convert to the Freedom card on at least one the day the 5% goes away. My Dividend card is going away. These cards aren't generally available. My credit is so shot I can't get HSBC. 3.75% is better than 2% and I'll take it over nothing.

I just tried the links I had bookmarked for the Cash Plus and the Rewards Plus cards. Looks like the Rewards Plus link is still alive. The Cash Plus link I have is now dead and replaced by some default chase link.

yes, the Cash Plus link appears to finally be DOA...Rewards Plus still seems to work...but who knows how much longer for that...I have a feeling we will all be eventually converted to Chase Freedom....I have Rewards Plus and will miss it...but even Freedom is a better deal then what Citi is giving now...

The Citi Dividend Reward card will reduce to the 2% Cash Back on October 13, 2006, so I am also looking for a replacement. But it looks like it will still be the best one for supermarkets, drugstores, and gas stations which is the primary use of my card.

I did read the responses and saw that a few got approved. I also read elsewhere that some of those people who were "approved" ended up with a Chase Flexible Rewards card anyway.

If it is worth the inquiry for you then go for it. My point is I think something being advertised heavily on TV and the internet and being prominently displayed on Chase.com is going to have longer "legs" than a CC with magically disappearing links. Of course use the 5% while it is still here. I was merely pointing that when "Armageddon" happens and there isn't a single 5% card left, I'll check back to see if this card is still available for conversion.

I hope that whichever card I receive it still comes with the $50 bonus and 0% BT for 12-mo. Otherwise I think it'd be false advertising (yes they can change T&C, but the bonus and the BT were in the ad).

Just got my old chase card (1% flat, redeemed at every $25) converted to chase freedom. The CSR said the reward points in the old account can also be converted at certain rate. I didn't listen very carefully so I'm not sure what the conversion rate for point is. Anyway, I've just redeemed all my rewards points last month.

I have not got the cash or reward plus yet, and the link for cash plus is already dead! I didn't apply because my recent large balance on statement just reduce my FICO to around 650, and 10K 0% debt are in my another card from chase. I'm not sure if it's a good time to apply for a new one. I used to use citi dividend but now they're lowering the rebate. Guess I'll have to use the chase freedom in gas and grocery for a while...
