FYI, Chase would not allow me to convert my Cash Plus or Rewards Plus to this card. |

Why would you want to? 5% is better than 3%. |

vyshnya said:I just tried the links I had bookmarked for the Cash Plus and the Rewards Plus cards. Looks like the Rewards Plus link is still alive. The Cash Plus link I have is now dead and replaced by some default chase link.I applied for the Cash Plus card just before the link went away, but the immediate application must not have been working, because I was told that I'd receive written notice of my application status within 30 days (my credit is spotless, so it's not due to any data on the application being questionable). Since that one disappeared, I went ahead and applied for the Rewards Plus card just now (same 30-day response deal) to hedge my bets, though it's clearly not as good of a deal as the cash card (need $100 worth of reward points to get 5% Cash Back, no $50 offer for first purchase, etc).
I guess if all else fails, the Freedom card would at least be better than my soon-to-be-2%-back Citi Dividend Platinum Select card, plus I'd get the 3% on fast food (which probably accounts for about 1% of my purchases, but it's still nice to have) |

is the 3% only for FAST FOOD restaurants or any type of sit-down restaurant like Chili's or Applebees? |

I'm considering getting this card as my CitiDividend card is maxed out on rewards and is soon to become less attractive. Has anyone received the rewards program details? Very few are posted on the website and there seem to be conflicting answers from CSR. Particularly, do points or dollars expire? Thanks |

Don't quote me on this but I think if the place has sitdown service with a waiter/waitress then it doesn't qualify. Sucks for people like me who travel on an expense report. If I could find a card that gave 3-5% back on hotels and sitdown restaurants I would be very, very happy. |

Well, the Costco AMEX card gives you 2% on travel (hotels) and 3% on restaurants (sit down included). It may be worth it if you already have a Costco membership... |

I already have 2 rewards plus, a cash plus, and a dividend card. I probably won't even max out the 5% rewards on even one of those. What I'm really interested in is the 1.25% on other purchases when redeemed at the $250 level. |

Just called right now 8:30 AM PST and got a US rep. Converted Chase Free Cash VISA (previously Bank One VISA) > Chase Freedom Cash VISA
Had choice of picking either VISA or MasterCard network and going with points or cash. Stuck with VISA & picked cash (dur).
Account # didn't change. Was told the new reward terms will be in place in three business days. New card and additional program T&C will be sent via snail mail. Current points convert on a 1:1 basis (though I had like 4 points left anyway).
Total call time 5:45.
Ah the joy of calling in the morning and dealing with a competent rep. |

I used to have the chase Cash Back card card, which was great (they just paid out 1% of everything spent once a year, no tiers or increments), but they switched to the their chase cash plus rewards card on me and I'd never asked 'em to. I wasn't too happy about it and cancelled it. Then my husband and I were looking for the best Cash Back card and not finding anything with what we wanted: like no tiered system, no time limit on rewards, no minimum points earned to collect. A lot of them have changed since a year ago, with lots of hidden requirements (like you only get paid in increment amounts with the chase card anymore.) Then I finally found the motley fool platinum visa. It's exactly like the Chase Cash Back card used to be --straight 1% Cash Back, paid out once a year. No increments or tiered systems. The card financer is MBNA/Bank of America. |

For those converting an existing Chase card are you getting the 0% on bt's? Will they ach or cut a check to you in your name? (yeah, I'm sure it's been covered elsewhere...searching now). If so, this is an easy way for just about anyone with Chase card to get 0%. |

If you want other cards that fit those requirements, also try:
* Chase PerfectCard = 3% Gas (6% for first few months), 1% Everything Else; Cash Back applied to NEXT STATEMENT'S BALANCE (NO WAITING!).
* American Express Clear Card = 1% Everything; Cash Back Check cut everytime $2,500 is spent (don't think points expire, but might want to double check).
* Costco/American Express True Earnings Card = 3% Restaurants, 2% Travel, 1% Everything Else; Cash Back Check cut annually on account anniversary date (can be redeemed for cash at Costco, but would need to be a Costco member).
EDIT: The following cards also fit MOST of your criteria, BUT offer rewards for certain things instead of straight Cash Back:
* Citi/Shell Platinum Select MasterCard = 5% Shell Gas, 1% Everything Else; Rebates in form of Shell Gasoline Credit (to be used at Shell service stations), NOT straight Cash Back, and is redeemable next statement's balance (NO waiting!).
* Chase AAA Card = 5 points Gas, 1 point Everything Else; Rebates in form of AAA Credit or a check I think, but you may want to make sure... |

My rep may have botched the request, but I definitely got issued a new card number. He had told me it wouldn't change on the phone.
There is a "new" account showing up in my online access account (and the one I converted is still listed) and I've received two letters letting me know my number had changed and to read the junk that comes with the card (which hasn't come yet).
I'm not entirely sure what they are up to, but I have a feeling the end result is me getting screwed in some way. |

Look at your previous credit card bills for merchant classifications: it's 3% at "retail establishments that classify their merchant locations for V/MC as grocery stores, gas stations and quick payment service fast food restaurants." Generally, order at counter = quick service. "Convenience stores, superstores, warehouse clubs and discount stores" are not eligible, unless they classify themselves incorrectly.
For business travel, I suggest either a hotel rewards card or the Costco AMEX.
Received my card today: mine is Visa Signature, even though I converted from a platinum (Amazon) card and there's no mention of "Signature benefits" in the marketing. Looks like the card "level" (platinum, signature, etc.) varies. |
