Just cancel the card. I worked at USBank and they did this quite a bit too (opening credit cards when you open other lines with them). Supposedly it's buried somewhere in the paperwork you sign when opening the other accounts, but I never really looked into it.
I went into a BOA to make a deposit at the Valley Fair Branch in CA and the feaking teller give me a credit card without asking me. I called the branch manager of what had happen, but she does not sound surprise at all. I guess that is one of their pratices. The manager told me that a credit report was never pull and that I recieved the card because I was pre-approved.
The BofA company that issues credit cards is a separate company from the one that handles your checking account, although they are jointly owned. No one ever reads the privacy notices that banks give you when you open an account and then have to mail you again every year, but if you had you would see there is a way to block BofA subsidiaries from sharing information about you with each other. (Hint: Click here.)
If you blocked information sharing between Bank of America companies, the bank where you opened your checking or CD account would not be able to give information about you to the bank that issues the credit cards.
And while you're at it, you might also want to block information sharing with third parties. While you may not mind getting junk mail offers and the third parties may swear on a stack of Bibles that they will protect your private information, if your private data is in fewer hands, that makes it less likely that someone will lose a laptop with your data in it.
Read those privacy notices and act on them, people!!!

Liar. (the manager)
BOA Pulls a hard inq when you open a checking account and many other accounts, I believe all under the guise of "Federal laws says..." or "The patriot act requires..."
More lies.
It is just a convienenet excuse to cross market you. That said, if you already suffered the inq, you might as well get a card out of it. Worst case, just more utilization points. Best case, some low cost cash.
People kill me here getting worked up about things that don't matter like soft account review inq's and no questions asked credit cards...

Exactly...if it didn't result in an additional hard it, who am I to reject a free extension of credit to lower my utilization?
As long as it has no annual fee, no hurt in keeping it. You already suffered the hard pull for opening the account in the first place.
If you suffered an additional hard pull just for this card and you didn't ask for it, then I'd be annoyed.
this happened to me a few months ago. A teller asked me if I was interested in a credit card, I said "No, but you can send me information on the card to my home". A few weeks later I received a BoA Power Rewards cc. Such BS.

Very good point.....because debit cards look almost identical to credit cards...with the symbol and master card or visa logo on it...although the word "debit" is generally written somewhere on it in small letters....And it's pretty standard for most banks today to issue a debit/atm card in less you specifically request an atm only card....I recently opened the Wamu Free Checking with Online 5% Savings package, and was sent a Gold Debit Master Card....
In fact, it's full featured, with all the usual Mastercard Benefits like Extended Warranty, Stolen/Damaged merchandise protection, etc. etc...which is in effect when you use the card as a debit card for a purchase....

experience: already have had credit card accounts, so opening a checking account (using one's log-in info) didn't require a hard...
I had the same thing happen (offered a credit card), and I said yes because it was 0% and no annual fee (about 5 months ago). I checked my credit and did not see a credit pull.
I was told that it was based on my relationship with the bank, but am not sure how that would work.
Some banks WILL give you a CC without a hard pull. I know USAA did that with a buddy of mine. They either looked at his credit with a soft pull from something else or just gave him one. He only got like an 8k limit, but that isn't bad all things considered.
When I signed for the BOA checking acct. they did a hard pull, after that they offered a power rewards card which I accepted. Sure you did not accidentely check that box, and accepted it. I received 0% interest and 500 points.
Ignore the advice to close the account. Leave it open. The "damage" (not really any damage at all) has already been done and won't be undone by closure of the account.
(I wonder if people who post these stupid threads keep doing so in the hopes that MAYBE, SOMEday, ONE day, one of the "BofA opened a CC without my request" threads will finally be modded positive. To all those of you who share this dream: please don't bother, it won't.)
A CSR called me and asked me if I would like to get a CC. I said no, but she kept talking and talking, finally I said send the information to me but I do not want to apply for it. Then several days later, I got a CC. But I never use it. It happened two years ago !!!!

I did a quick search with "boa" and didn't find anything, so I posted this thread to ask what I should do.
I am really worried, truly seeking advice from you guys. I am truly sorry of this is a repost.

I've had the same thing happen to me. I'd go into the branch to make a desposit and they'd tell me that I've been approved for a BofA credit card. I told them I didn't want it everytime. One day it just showed up in the mail. I had to call in to get it canceled.
