jensenjp said: am always suspicious of calls asking me to "verify" security things. The safest practice I think is to tell them you will call them back to ensure they are really from company X that you already have a relationship with. Don't call them back at a number they give you, but rather research the correct number from their website.
My favorite is when they call me to verify something and their caller ID is blocked. Just tell them you can't verify who they are, look up the number and call them back. It seems like common sense to not give out your personal info to some unknown caller. Aren't these the same people who send out warnings to not respond to emails asking for account info? |

Just read this today. Banco Popular (parent of E-LOAN) ranked almost dead last in a study ranking banks on how well they protect customers from ID theft. That's not surprising at all, based on my experience with their "verification" process. Link |

Regular rate has been down to 3.01% for a while, but E-LOAN is offering a 3.75% rate through 7/31/08 for new accounts only. I had one myself (wife as beneficiary), but my wife just opened one of her own (myself as beneficiary) and it went through fine, even linking to the same external account my E-LOAN account uses. |
