This offer is sufficiently better than the last and deserves a new thread. Essentially, a free roundtrip ticket in the US and Canada for getting approved and charging $250. No annual fee for the first year.
Enjoy.
Update: Commensurate business card offer as well: http://www.firstusa.com/cgi-bin/webcgi/webserve.cgi?partner_dir_name=united_bizcard_25k_afw&page=cont&mkid=6VMT Danke skibum. If you apply for both, you will have enough for 2 roundtrip tickets (at 25k per domestic RT)! (I now have 2 personal cards and 1 biz card. It may be possible to have more than one biz card in addition to the 2 personal maximum.)
***BELOW NO LONGER APPLIES TO OFFER. Bonuses now once only.*** Extra info for new members: I know you can have two of the personal cards at a time. However, I have heard (in the case of UMP cards only) you must wait 3 months after your first application to apply for the second. This works out fine, because you're supposed to keep each account open six months to avoid having the bonus revoked. I have also heard that one should wait a month after closing one account to open another. Yes, you can do this without end until they start enforcing the new-only clause. "Close the accounts?" you say. That's right, you want to avoid the fee. It's best to get rid of the account and not the credit line you got with it though. Move all of the credit line on a UMP card to one of your non-partner Chase cards. It's a lot easier to close an account when it has lost it's credit.

Please see Pricing and Terms for complete details about rates, fees, other costs and the benefits associated with this offer.

To qualify for this offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. This offer is valid only for first-time cardmembers with new accounts. Existing cardmembers/accounts are not eligible. Only one offer per account. Bonus Miles do not count towards caps. These Miles do not count toward Elite status.

4 No Pre-Set Spending Limit does not mean unlimited spending. Each charge that causes your balance to exceed your revolving credit access line will be evaluated based on your account spending and payment history and your experience with other creditors. Your minimum payment each month will be 2% of your balance within your revolving credit access line plus any amount over your revolving credit access line. We reserve the right to decline an authorization request for any transaction at any time for any reason. We also may request additional information from you at any time to evaluate a transaction request or your use of the account generally. The no pre-set spending limit feature is not available with the Platinum card. Please see Terms & Conditions for details.
5 U.S.-issued cards only. Visa's Zero Liability policy does not apply to ATM transactions or to PIN transactions not processed by Visa.
Miles accrued and awards issued are subject to the rules of the United Mileage Plus program. Yeah, I noted the spending requirement in the original message. Citi's AAdvantage card has the same requirement now.
Thanks OP, I also have a UA personal card but this offer is good for the business card as well, so I applied for that one.

When you guys do the business card applications, do you link it to the same mileage plus account? Will they credit the reward to a mileage plus account that has alreadt received the bonus for a personal card? TIA!
Personally I like Delta's Sky Miles offer of getting 17,500 Sky Miles for opening an American Express branded card with the first year's annual fee waived an NO minimum amount reuired before getting the miles. You just have to use the card once on any purchase (www.Delta.com).
I like this deal because Delta allows you to use frequent flyer miles for magazine subscriptions so I can get TIME magazine for the next 15 years for free. I can already add those fifteen years to the ten years I have already on my account from other free offers...so I can have time until the day I die.
If I am not mistaken, United only allows you to order newspapers for free but not magazines using your frequent flyer points...but if you get a free roundtrip flight out of it that is real good too.

I had an account with them but closed half a year ago. Am I eligible? By definition, I don't think I am not first-time cardmember any more.

Apparently they don't enforce that provision. You'll get the miles. You can have two personal cards open at a time.
Anyone had 2 personal and 1 business open at the same time? Is that allowed? I wonder if the 3 month gap between UMP personal applications applies to business as well.

I just noticed that on the business application, there is no place to put your Mileage Plus account #! In the past, I've never had any problem having the same Mileage Plus account number linked to both the business and personal card. I've also had no problem getting the miles every time I've reapplied. I've cancelled and reapplied twice in the last three years, within one-to two months of cancelling the card.
As an FYI, I did the United Visa twice since December of last year.
Got the first card, spent the $250, got the miles, canceled the card and then repeated the same process all within 10 months; now I have an additional 50K miles in my account at no cost (yeah - I know two dings on the credit score for two hard inquiries, but at 10 months apart, probably no big deal and in my mind for 2 free tickets, worth it).

What is the problem with the "eligible purchases"? Does that mean normal things, such as groceries, clothes, would not be eligible?

anyone get this deal a second time after converting their first card to a non-united card, instead of canceling the account?

Couple problems with your story. The $250 spending requirement didn't start until last month, and you wouldn't have been able to get 50k from just two cards until this offer. Perhaps you completed another promo.

OK, you made me check my statements - you are correct. The two United Visa offers I did this year were for 20K miles each, and I only had to make a "first" purchase each time, not $250 (that was for the American Airlines Visa). I guess all of the travel mileage/point offers I've done this year are beginning to merge in my mind - Mileage Plus, AAdvatage, HHonors, Priority Club...

Yes, just call in the number at the back of your United Mileage Visa Card and ask to cancel. They'll most likely offer you a "product trade" (i.e. to see if you want to change your card to a Chase card. They offered me the Freedom Card and various other cards also.
Thanks OP, just in time for my AOR. Just paid down my balances from various 0% interest CCs and waiting for my credit report to update. And for the previous poster who asked what an AOR is... go here: sis's post
basically... you apply for a bunch of credit cards in one day so that the credit card companies dont see your numerous inqueries. There are risks involved so I suggest you do some more research, such as if you are planning to buy a house then don't do this cause your score will go down with AOR. But then it goes back up as your % usage goes down with higher limits, etc.
I was about to pull the trigger on the current 21,000 deal linked to the http://www.united.com/, actually I was going to post it here first. Then I searched the forum and found this. First time I was happy to see someone beat me to posting a deal. Since the deal in not linked to the united website I would apply for it ASAP before it dissappears.

Good deal OP, going from what you guys are saying, it looks like recycling (applying for new MP card every 8-10 months) seems like an easier way to earn miles than trying to earn them from purchases. I fly Delta and United a lot, so in my case I prefer to use the DeltaAMEX for purchases and earn miles that way and just recycle United CC's to get my United miles.
