Of course AMEX cards are usable anywhere but AMEX travel and dining cards arent usable anywhere except lodging and dining establishments that are listed as such with AMEX so a gas station doesnt cut it and wont work there

Looks like it's not really worth the hassle then.

We are in for one! After waiting about 30 mins. or so because they had some big promotion going on(different one) and getting free soda, coffee and popcorn......we got it!! Easier $50.00 I ever made! He said he knew about the promotion, but had not received his packet from Buick yet. He simply had to call them and register his dealership, then they faxed him his user name and password! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I went by and did the test drive this afternoon. They didn't know anything about this promotion. We called an 800 number for Buick that I saw in small print at the end of my confirmation email when I registered and asked for the promotions department. They gave us another 800 number that has information about this promotion. The number the dealer called to speak with someone about the promotion is: (866) 351-4031. They asked him some questions and then faxed him instructions including a user id and password. (Apparently Buick was supposed to have mailed packets out to all the Buick dealerships called a "P.O.S. pack" explaining the promotion.) He says he never received this. He then went to the website: http:www.buicktestdrive.com and entered his user i.d. and password. He then found my name on a list of preregistered people by typing in my test drive i.d. which I recieved when I registered for the promotion. After he brought up my i.d. a screen came up where he had to check off several boxes that I had done the test drive and was qualified. Finally, he had to type in his name and then submitted the form online. I did see him do this, so am sure of the procedure. We'll see if it comes. It was very nice of him to take the time to deal with all of this considering there was no financial incentive for him. I hope this informtion is helpful to some of you in your test drive experiences.

Lawgator................u took MUCH more time than I would have to explain the whole procedure.........but that is to the "T" what I went thru today...........down to the package not being received as it should have! I also got a confirmtion page printed and given to me! We are SO "In"! LOL Cool!!!!

sojourn4me said:almost all dining places that accept the AMEX card will take this but they almost always place a hold on credit equal to 20 percent of charge for gratuity so your 50 becomes 40 since if you ask them to charge 50 to the card it rejects with the hold making it 60 which is over the cards value.

If you tell them to put 50 on this card and the rest on another card or pay the rest with cash, will that stop them from trying to authorize 60 on the AMEX?

I had a 75 dollar card once and asked them to put 75 dollars of a 125 dollar bill on it and that I would pay the balance in cash and it rejected so we asked them to put 60 dollars and it accepted so I imagine it depends upon the establshment but someone else suggested simply purchasing a gift card at a place that sells them like Outback using the card and getting a full 50 since they wouldnt place a hold on a giftcard purchase and they dont charge tax on those till you use them

Is it a good idea to let the salesman know upfront you are only interested in the GC and not the car so you don't have to fake that you are a car buyer?

Only from reading your poorly written post.

Ok here is my story:
Me and my gf went to the dealership last Friday on our lunch break. The dealer actually made me drive the car around the parking lot (!). Then he took our print outs with the codes and made the copy of our drivers licenses, saying he'll find out more details about this promotion and sign us up. I really hope he does that. He seemed to be the type that would. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

went to ewing buick in dallas today and it was really easy. they seemed to know what was going on, took the email form, entered my info, printed out a confirmation page. then we went out to the lucerne and they showed me the onstar system and let me drive it around. hahah it was funny because from the moment they saw me enter, a 23yo guy in jeans and sandals, holding a piece of paper, they knew i was there for the GC. the whole onstar demo was just going through the motions and practice for the salesman. pretty cool stuff.

i've signed my parents up for this too! thanks OP!

btw, for those of you who watched them enter the info, was the driver's license number entered in there or was it just copied for test drive purposes? i have a second address where i live for med school and the one i used today which goes to my parent's house. just wondering if i can a second GC since i have a totally separate address.

When I "did the deal" the other day, no one asked me for my driver's license nor do I think it was required for the test drive.
