Brought my certificate to Herb Chambers Buick here in MA. The salesman had no clue. He brought to his "manager" who apparently told him that dealer wasn't "participating." More likely, they did a "quick qualify" and figured they didn't want to waste their time. Herb Chambers is a scumbag dealer chain anyway. |

grlracer, your post helps.
I called the hotline 1 week after my test drive, and was told my info was not entered. I called back the dealership, and they reentered that for me. Now my entry was confirmed.
grlracer78 said:The dealership I went to said they would do it for me if I left a copy of my e-mail containing my test drive ID in it. I called the Buick hotline 1.5 weeks later, and my test drive was still "unconfirmed." When I called the sales manager to see why it had not be done, he stated he had not gotten around to it, even though he was supposed to do it the next day.
So I called the hotline 1-866-351-4031 and explained to the rep that I had taken the test drive and that the sales manager was beating around the bush when I called twice to inquire why he had not confirmed me in the system.
The Buick phone rep asked for the name of the dealership, the name of the sales manager, and the phone number. She called and spoke to him, gave him his login information, and called me back to tell me he seemed to be giving her the run around when it came to confirming my test drive.
Surprisingly enough, when I called the next day to the hotline, the phone rep said that I was confirmed for the gift card. It took some extra work and some extra phone calls, but now I am all set.
When in doubt, call the hotline and they can help you out when dealing with a difficult dealership. |

I got my Buick card today- my first test drive reward! It's for 50 "points" valued at 50 dollars. I scanned over the paperwork and it looks like it can be used for some shopping and internet purchases that accept AMEX, hotels, restaurants, and for gas, but you have to check with the retailers ahead of time to make sure they will accept it, and if they will allow supplemental payment if needed.
I'm excited to get this! I hope to use to pay for my overrnight stay in Houston before I leave on the MS 150 next April. Thanks FatWallet for the link! |

Thanks for the Buick $50 test drive. The AMEX has been received today. It was not limited to dining or anything. I have already paid online the utility with it. |

Piece of cake! We didn't even do the onstar demo, lol. Salesguy was super-nice about the whole thing though. I couldn't care less about Onstar, but I did take another car for a td just cuz it looks like something that we're looking for. The salesguy was really sweet, and not pushy at all. I asked for his card and some brochures. I think they just insured getting a future customer for when we car shop next year. |

We went today. Did the test drive. When they went to enter it the guy said the system was down and he'd have to do it later. We'll see. If we're not in by Monday then I'll have to call them. Sigh. |

Easiest way to use this type of card: Decide where you are going to spend it, then "trade" it to that merchant for a $50 gift card. Do NOT try to use the AMEX card itself for merchandise purchase, you will have lots of headaches (detailed in many many other threads about these cards). Use it to buy a merchant-specific gift card and save yourself a BIG hassle! |

I'm going to have to give this another try, I'll call the Buick number while I'm there if they give me the run around again.

Went to the dealer today, the sales rep had a feeling I had no interest in actually buying a Buick so he told me his manager sent my info through the system already. Hopefully it went through! |

OK, I received this $50 AMEX card in the mail today for this Buick TD. Please explain how one goes about "trading" it in for a particular merchant-specific card. Is this easy to do? If the merchant refuses, are there any alternatives? If not, HOW DO I GET THE BIGGEST BANG FOR THE BUCK USING THIS AMEX CARD?
Thanks! |

Go some place you like shopping at like Target or WalMart for instance and ask to buy a 50 dollar gift card. The AMEX is used up in one swoop and you have at your leisure the ability to fully use the 50 dollar giftcard when you select. |

OK, I'll try it. Thanks for the non-smarta** response. It's refreshing. Have a Happy Turkey Day.
