I entered some quasi-random flight data through this link, and it appears that it gives you exactly the same flight options and prices as you would get directly from expedia.com, assuming 1 point is redeemed for $0.01. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if this is the case for all flights, wouldn't it be better to just charge the tickets to PremierPass and redeem for $100 gift cards?

I got exactly 1% on the domestic flight I tried. I only got .92% on my international flight. Also I thought that European flights were 50,000 but now they are 60,000 if you don't want tto go through expedia.

I guess some people get 2~3 cents/point on their flights but I give up. I'm just going to get get cards at .98% and buy my own tickets with my 2% Cash Back card. I can often find prices cheaper than expedia anyway.

This was true before but not anymore. Citi's 5 pt programs for groceries and gas are no longer available except for a few cards that have the offer for the first 12months, but after that they still don't match the 4pts/$1 return of the PP Elite. So if you fly enough you get AT least 2pts/$1 for all purchases, AND 4pts/$1 for supermarkets, drug stores, gas stations, commuter transportation and parking merchants.

do you mean "they will not match"? cause still presumes they never matched it.

how is that at least $2 for all purchases? do you mean at most?

This "upgrade" now returns points values which seem to be 1 cent per point, rather than a flat 25,000 for domestic and 50,000 for Europe. Looks like bad news for those who were using this for bigger returns with flights, and seems to follow the trend of devaluation.

the upgrade is now because you have a choice to do a search through the expedia search and depending on the cost of a ticket it may or may not be a better deal than a flat rate cost. However, they still have their flat rate pointsystem in place if you call them and get get any us flight 25,000 points 14 day saturday night required stay. (same as before).

if you need a no blackout flight you can still get the flatrate 25000 point option. I was able to find an 11,800 point flight. why would I want to use frequent flyer miles if I can do this, yes it comes to about .01 per point if i go this route, but its still better than spending 25,000 miles with an airline, or using the 25,000 flat rate point option and rather than spending $118 cash, I can use the points

This is my strategy:

Citi mtvU: 5x at restaurants, bookstores (Amaz0n), movie theaters, record stores, video rental stores.
4,000 every year for 4.0 gpa, 25 points times 12 for on time payments each year.

Citi AT&T Universal Rewards: 5x at gas, grocery, drug stores, and AT&T merchandise. Received 10,000 bonus with first purchase.

Citi Drivers Edge or PremierPass: Depending if I am flying or driving more, I use this card for non category purchases to get an equivalent of 2x after combining with miles driven or miles flown.

The Citibank Account: 800 points times 12 minus 5 dollars, since it costs 5 dollars a year for LOC to hit 7 accounts.

I fly from Detroit to LA most often, and tickets are usually around 400 dollars after tax. I get tickets at the 25,000 point range, and almost double my 5x to 10x. The last ticket I booked was for December 23rd, which would have cost me 540 dollars without TY points. Cost me 25,000 TY points, so I more than doubled my point values to more than 10x.

That part's nice. The concurrent increase from 50k to 60k for the flat rate for Europe is not. Since the best value for Thank You points is to save them for a greater than 1% return and use cash for cheaper flights, I see this as a devaluation. I'm not sure why I care, though, I just burned the last of my Thank You points and have switched to the SPG AMEX.

Noticed the integration of the Expedia flight search in Thank You Network website. Was terrified to find the much higher number of points needed for redemption of flights that used to cost a lot less points. Thankfully, after calling Thank You Network directly and spoke to their travel agent, I confirmed that nothing was really changed--all flights still cost the same as they did, as long as you call, not book through the online Expedia system.

So the bottomline is, why did they even bother to put that stupid high cost Expedia system online in the first place? To fool people into spending a lot more points?

They claim you can get some flights for less than the "fixed" point solutions. They are "helping" you by not requiring the 25,000 points for a local flight.

A domestic flight that used to cost 25,000 points can be had for 23,600 points if you use Expedia. That seems like a benefit to me. I guess I got fooled.

Fights to Asia use to be like 60,000, but now they are signifcantly more, like 100,000 Maybe I'm doing something wrong though...

I was trying to redeem for some flight to Asia, in which case the Expedia solution does cost a lot more. I now see that the new addition is simply offering an alternative that can be better than the fixed point system in some cases. Well then, thank you, Thank You Network, for making the sweet TY deals even sweeter.

Is it possible to redeem Citi ThankYou points for flights of people other than the cardholder?
Anyone tried?

Thx.

Why would I answer it? I wasn't the one who said it.

You're exactly right. The deal for Mexico, Hawaii, and Europe (and possibly others) is absolutely devalued; by 20% in the case of the fixed-point Europe option. Boo on TY Network! Gotta burn my 100k TY Points and possibly convert to a different product...

It is possible. I have done it for an international flight.

They increased europe and hawaii I believe. Now you can fly to the middle east and africa...that is new.

And S. America is 60,000 instead of the prior (ridiculous) 90,000. 60k is actually a great deal, considering flights from non-major airports are usually over $1000, often closer to $1500 all in. Come to think of it, this might make up for the devaluation of Europe. BA anyone?
