That's odd, I called last week and did this very thing. The name of the card is changed on my online account screen and CSR said the new card is in the mail. |

Huh, I was shot down too. Any special way you might have phrased it to get the conversion? |

A week? Is this your first time using cardoffers? I'd be shocked if you saw anything before 4-6 weeks, maybe 8. |

I believe there's an end to this post somewhere, but I can't find it. |

Is there an annual cap on the gas rebate like the $1500 on Discover? I have been looking for a new card for gas as I spend between $300 and $400 a month on gas and cap out Discover in just a few months. |

Not really. I asked if the CSR if it was possible to convert my platinum cash rebate card to the Simply cash. He put me on hold for a minute to confirm, then said yes. |

Be aware! for those who think will get 5% back from Staples, AMEX lies! I nailed them with question: what % rebate would I get if I buy a $5 folder from Staples. Below is the email from them:
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your follow up e-mail.
Please be advised that if you purchase any item from any of the megastores/superstores viz Staples, Office Depot, Circuit City, Best Buy, Dell.com you will get 1% rebate as the listed stores do not qualify as everyday spend locations. Therefore, you will receive 1% rebate if you buy a folder from Staples.
Also, please note that you are eligible to get 5% rebate for purchases of wireless telephone services, automobile gasoline, and office supplies and equipment, in each case not purchased at a warehouse club, superstore or supermarket. Please be aware that the merchant from where you purchase any item will submit the merchant code and industry code to American Express for earning rebates.
However, please note that if the Merchant submits a Charge for a 5% Purchase under a different Merchant code or industry code, you will receive a Rebate of 1%, not a Rebate of 5%.
I hope I was able to resolve your inquiry to your satisfaction. We assure you that American Express will always be present to assist you whenever you need assistance.
Sincerely,

One more, I also online chatted with AMEX, and got different answer: --------------------------------------------------------------- Please wait while we contact the next available agent... You are now speaking with Wade! Wade: Thank you for contacting OPEN from American Express®. My name is Wade, how may I help you? you : yes. you : for SimplyCash card question you : where I would make the office supply purchases that will get me 5% Cash Back as stated. Wade: To receive 5% back on office supplies, we would recommend making those purchases at a dedicated office supply store, such as Office Max, Staples, etc. Wade: This way, your purchases are sure to receive the appropriate merchant code for the 5% Cash Back. ........................................ -------------------------------------------------------------
when I confronted him with email above, he said: is there anything else I'd do for you? I can give you the phone number to find out....
that's a bull! |

It depends on how the transaction is categorized I guess.
A friend who has the same card only received 1% at a Gas Station called "Flying J's", while I have Received a full 5% for all my gas and Cingular purchases thus far. I mainly shop as Exxon, Shell as they are close to my work/house.
I just type the amounts in a spreadsheet with four columns (Gas @ 5%, Cell @ 5%, Office @ 5%, Other @ 1%) and a then total them up and compare my expected CashBack to my actual. |

In my last statement, I never got 5% for Staples & OD purchase. When asked, they said it will appear only in the next statement.
Do you think I will get 5%? If not, why didn't nobody mention anything about this for the past 6 months? |

For my CashBack there has been a 2 statement delay. I only use the card for Gas/Cell - I haven't made any purchases for "office supplies". But I wonder if you could combine say your verizon cell phone account and you verizon mobile broadband (if you have it) and get the full 5%.
Why not total up all of your purchases and find out what you will expect to get in CashBack and then compare that to the actual. |

their email agents are about the least knowledgeable reps you can encounter. I wouldn't put too much credence into that email response. If Staples does not count as an office supply store, nothing will.

I don't have a business or rental property and I was able to get the card (and was instantly approved w/ a decent credit limit).
My "business" name is my name, so my name appears twice on the front of the card.
Edit to add: Coming up on a month now and still no credit from CardOffers yet, but I figure it'll be another month at least before I get credit for it (or have to submit docs) |
