Just got off the phone with Citi representative where I was trying to reallocate my credit lines from other Citi cards (non-business) to Citi Professional card. I was told that they are not capable of doing it yet, BUT in a week or two, they will have new rules that will allow that. Anyone heard anything about this? Looking through previous posts I didn't notice anyone having that kind of response or any trouble at all re-allocating CL between Citi Professional and other cards. Let me know your experiences, thanks.
UPDATE 3/14/2007
They finally changed their policy. Was able to transfer from Citi AT&T and Citi Premier Pass to Citi Professional. Citi HiltonHonors cannot be transferred for many reasons.

I've posted in a Citi Professional thread about this before - it's a business card, and you can not reallocate credit between it and personal cards. I'll be intersted to see if this is actually possible in the future.

I got exactly the same reply as yours last week. Not sure why.

I must have missed your post on that. Citi Professional is a bit of an ambiguous card to me, it seemed that the agreement for this card read a bit differently than other pure business cards. Also, unlike other business cards I have, this one shows up on my credit report, not sure how it is for others.
To adiganifatwallet: Any particular reason for a red? This is the first time I see this information posted, if you think it's a duplicate, a link would be appreciated so I can contribute to that discussion. Seems that ability to use yet another Citi card for CL re-allocation helps expand the AOR capabilities with Citi.

But, even if you have 2 Citi Pro cards, they will not let you reallocate between the 2 "business cards". I'd definitely welcome the change as I could get another 10K out for 0% BT for about 9 months at least.

I tried doing 2 things with my Citi Professional card yesterday. 1) was to change it from the Citi Professional thank you points program to the Citi Professional Cash rewards program and 2) move some credit from my Citi Dividend card to my Citi Professional.
I was told their database system was going through an upgrade and that they couldn't convert my card from points to cash even though its the same Citi Professional card just different type of rewards. I don't like the points program since it forces you to get their merchandise or gift cards at certain retailers, I rather have cash.
I was also told that I couldn't reallocate personal to business. I asked to speak w/ a manager and he told me the same thing but told me to call back when their database system is upgraded and they could see if the new system will do it. I asked if there was a timeframe that it will be done by and he said NO. I guess I'll try again in the week or two time frame they gave you.

I tried several times to reallocate credit from my Citi Professional to other Citi personal cards and was told "Yes, we can do that" by at least 2 CSR's. It never happened. Finally someone at Citi called me apologetically and said they can't do that because Professional is a business card and Citi doesn't reallocate CL's between business and personal. After explaining why I wanted what I did and whining a bit, she finally said she could convert the Professional to one of two other kinds of personal cards (Citi Simplicity I think was the one I picked) and then I could reallocate. She even converted the card for me on the phone and then reallocated the CL's the way I wanted a few days later for me. So it can be done by certain CSR's who know and/or are willing to do the two step process.

Just to muddy the waters further: I applied for this card several days ago and was told that "despite its name, it's really a consumer card, not a business card."
I have had a slightly different experience. A long time ago, I had called citi csr at the number behind my professional card, and they refused to reallocate credit with my diamond preferred card. However, I later called the csr number behind my Diamond preffered card, and they were able to reallocate my limit! This is highly YMMV - I think it really depends on who you talk to.
Got off the line with Professional Citi Rep. 2 minutes ago. He said "call back after Nov. 6, other Rep. might help you with reallocation and consolidation since we are upgrading system."

There's a lot of misinformation about this sort of reallocation--and the misinformation is among the Citibank CSRs!
Last year I applied for a Citibank business card. I got a call from a credit analyst saying that because I already had so much credit with Citibank, I couldn't get much of a credit limit, but I could reallocate from my personal cards to my business cards. I asked for just a thousand bucks on the new card and said I'd contact Citibank about the reallocation later.
I got the card--and a few days later I received a letter saying explicitly that I COULD reallocate from personal to business, giving me a special number to call to do that. It had to be done within a month. I never followed up on that since I had 0% BTs going on my personal cards. Citi's rules, though, said I could do a BT from my new business card at any time up to a year after receiving the card, with the 0% rate extending a year from the time I did that transfer.
I did a little App-o-Rama at the end of August which got me a second Citi business card. That reminded me of the previous offer, so I dug up my records of the old offer and that special phone number. I called and succeeded in reallocating from three different Citi personal cards to the original business card. (The CSR couldn't reallocate from my Sears MasterCard, even though it was processed by Citibank--it just didn't appear on her screen.)
Before I looked up that old offer, though, I had called Citibank twice and asked for a reallocation from personal to business. I was told by two regular CSRs and one manager that it couldn't be done.
Point--it can be done, but you need to find someone who knows how to do it. When I did it, I asked for more info and was told it has to be done within a month of opening a new account, it's a one-time request/accommodation (so make sure you have all the details ready when you make the call--apparently you don't get a second chance). As I said, I actually reallocated to my OLDER card, not my new one--I may have been lucky about that. You can't go from business to personal, though...or so I'm told.
I have no info about this change that's coming in November. Hope that's true!

I purposely didn't post the phone number--I'm afraid of the FW effect. I'll PM it to anyone who writes me and asks for it, though!

I tried, the phone number does not apply to Citi Professional

I was glad to finnally hear that it would be possible to transfer credit away from the professional card. I was transferring some credit today from a Upromise card to a simplicity card so I inquired about also moving some from the professional card and the csr put me on hold and double checked. After waiting on hold for a minute she said that it is possible. Anyway she put the recquest in so I dont want to tell everyone that citi is %100 able to do it but everytime I had tried to do this in the past they always said it wasnt even possible.

Hope you are correct. I had tried in the past to move from personal to business was told it would be done in 2-3 days only to find out it wasn;t done. no notification. it was only after I called back I was told they can not do that.
I tried today to move CL from personal card to Citi Professional card (no current balance on either card). CSR said it was not allowed. I did not press/pursue.
I just spoke with a CSR for a different business card reallocation, and she said that the Professional card is considered a business card. I was told that I could transfer some credit from the professional to my other business card.

i was able to request partial transfer of CL from CITI div to the Pro card. however, the idiots closed out my dividend card and transfered the entire CL to the pro.

Was there a special phone number that you called to do that? I called a couple of weeks ago using the regular number and was told I have to call back on Nov. 15 before they could do the transfer...

no special # - just the one on the back of the pro card. last week when i called, they gave me the same schpiel. i guess it depends on who you get. i did the CL transfer for the 9 month 0% BT but i'm about to regret it as this has just caused more aggravation than it was worth.

I tried moving some CL from my Home Rebate to Professional last week - the CSR told me I couldn't since the Professional is a Business Card.
I would be interested to hear if anyone else has been successful at this lately.

I was able to reallocate 8k from citi dividen (original 11k) to professional last week. The last time I called (about a month ago), a woman said it'd took about 4 business days, but never happened. I mentioned that when calling back this time, the CSR gave me an apology and said it'd took 30' to complete and it did. FYI: I called at about 11:30pm this time. Maybe that makes some difference.

There seems to be an ongoing systems update affecting the Professional cards. About 8 days ago, I was in the process of requesting several BT's online; suddenly, it stopped working, and I started getting "General Error" messages. After a few phone calls to their tech support, they told me the upgrade would be done in 7 days; still, I keep getting this error message when I try to view BT status (on this card only). Maybe it's all related.

Yes, it does work. I was able to reallocate from the Professional card to Diamond Preferred. 1st call - in the morning. They told me to wait 24 hours to see it reallocated. Never happened. 2nd call - in the middle of the day. They were giving all those "Professional is a Business" excuses. Asked for supervisor. No go. 3rd call - as nylontiger suggested, I tried late evening, around 22:00. Indian girl was very helpful. In 30 minutes reallocation was done. I called regular support number from the back of Diamond Preferred card. Thank you, nylontiger!

I can also vouch that it works. I recently applied for 2 citi business cards, which were deferred. Then I got 2 separate calls a few days later stating that my total line of credits over 2 existing personal cards were already at the limit that citi will allow me. Both reps allowed me to reallocate credit from my existing personal cards to my new business cards.

Got the same call on saturday, I just pushed 5k from my dividend to the professional and it showed up the next day.
glad to hear folks....I have a professional card that I am banking for 0% latter next year...it would be nice to move some available credit to it...

After 3 attempts and speaking to supervisors I still cannot get CITI to move any credit from personal accounts to a professional. I have called at different times, even to the india call center as suggested, no luck. They state they you can now move credit from personal to business but that the professional is a special card and nothing can be moved to it.

Over the past week I've been trying to reallocate from Citi Simplicity to Citi Professional. Half of the time I got shot down, they told me it's only possible to do it the other way, i.e. to move credit from business line to personal line. The other half (about three times), the reps I talked to said they put my request in the system and it will become effective in 24 hours. Unfortunately that never happened, so I'm inclined to believe they can't move from business to personal.

This may not help everyone but I spoke with the Professional card supervisor and after a lot of holding was told that by converting the card to another type (Diamond preferred rewards) the credit line could then be consolidated with other consumer cards. I see the conversion took place in a few days but I'll have to wait and see if the consolidation works.
hkarpf6045 said: Any more updates on this? Is this possible yet?Yep, as I posted in the 15k bonus points Citi Pro thread, Citi closed one of my Diamond Rewards cards and moved the CL to my new Pro card. I called and had the other one closed and the CL for it moved to Pro as well. So it just depends on which CSR you get. I also think the Pro is a personal card, not business.

You'll probably find more info. and get more feedback if you post in the CC reallocation thread.
Also, there was some recent discussion about options with the Pro card here.
