I was just curious if you account has a credit to it could you get a cash advance with no interest? I am guessing there would be a cash advance fee if your card has that but would there be any other problems?
They will most likely charge you the cash advance fee and accrue interest at the cash advance rate from the date of the transaction, irrespective of the credit balance.

Why would you want to do a cash advance as opposed to asking them for a refund of your credit balance? Most certainly they would charge the cash advance fee. Maybe interest but I doubt it.
You should call or visit the website and ask for a credit balance refund, as previously stated. What would likely happen is that you would get charged the cash advance fee, and pay interest on any amount beyond the credit balance that the cash advance fee+cash advance summed to from the day of the advance.

you have a card w/o a cash adv fee? i have never seen such a card who is the issuer? Look for credit union issued credit cards. Also, 6.90% no-fee BT offers (you can ask them to cut you a check) from Citi can be used in your advantage, if you pay them back asap (in a matter of days).

No check cash advance fee isn't too uncommon. I'd like an ATM one though ...

The reason why I asked is if you had a a balance transfer to a credit card company that didn't offer check refunds it might be a way to get the money from the credit card company.
One other question if I mnake a big payment to say my electric bill (say $1000) could I get a refund from them?
Is there a reason why this got such a negative reaction from some people, I did a search for this and couldn't find anything. I put a question mark in the title? Am I doing something wrong?

How would it be to their benefit to handle it that way?
I would think they would want to charge Cash Advance fee + interest on the full cash advance balance, from the day the advance was made.
And separately mail you a check for the credit balance.
Without ever offsetting the new advance against the previous credit.

Some cards will take a l-o-o-o-o-n-g time to cut the check. Some time ago I did a BT to a Bloomingdales Visa in expectation of making a large purchase.(Why use a Bloomingdales Visa some of you may be asking - at the time my wife was an employee and it was required + you get the employee discount only when you use it). We changed our mind on the purchase and it took two months and a couple dozen phone calls to get the $$$ released.
