Disagree totally
1. I have already sent off my letters - certified return receipt requested- with certified copies to:
Carl E Reichardt,Chairman HSBC North America Holdings Inc 2700 Sanders Road Prospect Heights, IL 60070
Bobby Mehta, CEO HSBC North America Holdings Inc 2700 Sanders Road Prospect Heights, IL 60070
Martin Glynn, CEO HSBC Bank USA, National Association 90 Christiana Road, New Castle, Delaware 19720
If it is not in writing, it did not happen. That is the LAW. Certfied letters have ALWAYS worked for me like a charm. It says you care enough to document your tracks and that you have an entry level of consumer product/legal knowledge. A signed certification cannot be disputed in court and they know it. Fighting even a strong case in court costs money and that is all SOME, not all, companies care about. When you can let some lower/middle manager or floor supervisor know that their name may be discussed/on the desk of the people who control jobs, they WILL TREAT YOUR SITUATION DIFFERENTLY and ENSURE that it is handled properly.
and ---CKpeter ----""" I am not posting the upper management number because I don't want HSBC President's Office to be flooded with complaints ----------- Why SHOULDN"T that president's telephone number be bombarded with calls over this. They need to play to your tempo m not you to theirs. This mistake was egregious and , sorry, i am not sure, even now , that it was a mistake. However, any fool can get these telephone numbers, so i do not need your assistance on that.
But i got min in writing and it onlyu cost $3.00 for each letter.

What was disclosed in the terms and agreement you made with HSBC? Ive actually come across some where the clause specifically says the promotion rate can be changed at any time with prior written notice. Not sure what HSBC had in the offering you received. The customer is responsible for reading all terms and conditions on the account. Not saying this was the issue. But so far I havent seen any postings of what the terms and conditions were on the account in the agreement that came with the card. |

My statement closed yesterday - so this morning I was able to download the statement pdf. I'm still getting the 0% intro APR on both the BT and purchase balances just like I should be. No mistakes or glitches on my account. Good luck to everyone who has been rate-jacked. |

It appears that some of us did get rate jacked on the regular APR, but HSBC made a mistake in also applying the rate jack to promotional balances. |

Exactly. Again, they promise that it will be taken care of. However, you need written confirmation just in case.
This is a lesson learned - although I do have all the docs for all of my 0% BTs.
ckpeter - i hope youdid not see my last post regarding you as flaming, its just in my career and life, sitting back and waiting for good/jsut things to happen don't cut it. I must be proactive. I will update you on any progress. i hope you chose to do the same
also, i just made my 12/15 payment which included almost $300 in interest |

No offensive taken at all. I think that your approach is wise. I am just lazy and I am waiting until January (27 - 10) before deciding if I would need to send off written request. If my contact couldn't make things happen for me, I will surely send off my letters, just as you have done so.
I will keep everyone posted on this thread. |

alexnyc said:Chances are, the finance charges will be corrected as promised, but don't be surprised if they aren't. Verbal promises are worthless if they don't fix this to your expectations. Get the promise in writing. Send the written dispute today.
So I'm kinda new at this- what do you suggest I put in writing? Dispute the finance change and request a response in writing that this will be credited back to my account? Is there anything else I need to ask or receive?
Your complaint need not be complicated.
Simply state that your finance charge for XX/XX/2006 billing date was incorrect. Per the attached promotional materials, your finance charge should have been $0.
Two sentences should more than suffice. Do not guess at what they screwed up. It's their job to figure that out and make it right.

Just noticed that I too was rate- jacked on my HSBC 0% BT. I will call in today for explanation but I am sure it is the same thing that is happening to everyone else in this thread. Does anyone care to post an outline of the letters you are sending to them, I have never written to a CC company before. Thanks! |

Just for the record, my maxed out GM flex card using a 0% offer has NOT been ratejacked.
So whatever HSBC just did, it didn't apply to everyone, but it applied to a lot of people. |

I just got off the phone and CSR confirmed it was an error and will be corrected in 1-2 billing cycles with finance charges reimbursed. My BT is small enough that I am going to chance it without writing a letter. However if I had a large balance, I wouldn't chance it by taking the CSRs word for it. Let's hope they get this straightened out sooner than 1-2 months! |

2 separate CSRs have confirmed that it will be rectified. I also have been told that i will receive confirmation of everything in writing.
But still waiting.
FYI, i am noticing that some new pre-approved applications that I am receiving (shell - whci i do not want) is containing lanuage of
"we can change interest rate at any time and for any reason"
This truly is a game and I will be reviewing T&C and change to T&C letters with all deliberate scrutiny. Or maybe I am just getting paranoid after that FRONTLINE piece.
man, i have the BT game down to a science, and now they are raising bt fees, doing account reviews, chaing T&C etc. DAM#, DAM$, DAM$

I called HSBC today again to check the status on my interest rate refund and it was the strangest call yet. At first, the agent said they had sent me a letter about the rate change. After I said that I had received notice from two prior Reps that the problem would be fixed she insisted that I was sent a letter and that finance charges wouldn't be refunded.
I persisted and she put me on hold for about 10 minutes and came back and said they had made a mistake and the problem would be fixed within the next TWO billing cycles. I complained and told her that I was told that one billing cycle ago and the problem still hadn't been fixed and what was to keep the next HSBC agent I speak with two billing cycles from now from telling me the same thing?
Like a robot, she told me it would be fixed in two billing cycles.
I asked what my current APR was on my card. She said 0% for balance transfers and purchases and 22% for cash advances. I asked how long these were good for and she said her system didn't say for how long. WTF?
At this point and at this rate, the time I'm wasting on the phone trying to resolve this matter will exceed the cost of $100 in finance charges I accrued and that's just very bad customer service and business practice |

My statement had closed and I made a minimum payment (higher than it should have been because of finance charges). |
