The old CD thread is here. Thanks to all those who contributed to that thread and made it the best place on the net to find rates. Let's keep that up and use the excellent format from the previous cd thread with some minor updates.

You can only open it in person. I was really hoping I could get in on this.

I would be very careful on this. You really need to verify the bank behind this service. The rate is very high. Remember,
if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

I would never ACH or wire transfer funds through a service. Only my bank to the next bank after I verify the new bank and the account in my name only.

It says in the ad that it's a bank CD advisory service (CD broker, I guess). It also says "World Currency Yields subject to change." It sounds to me like it may be some currency linked/denominated CD product like those at Everbank. Maybe you're getting 7.44 APY on rupees or something and hoping they stay stable or increase against the dollar during the term.

rated:

They are not listed at the FDIC website.

edit: oops, didn't see that someone had already mentioned this. Mods, please delete.

rated:

I live nearby and used to work at 980 9th Street; it's a large (for Sacramento) office building on the corner of 9th and J, known as the US Bank building. But don't let the building name fool you; I'm sure they're just leasing an office. It's a bit disconcerting that the ad doesn't list a suite number. I suppose I could go check it out, but this verbiage in the ad concerns me - "World Currency Yields subject to change daily". Sounds to me like it's not a fixed 7.44%. I'll stick with my 6% 12 mo Golden1 CU CDs that I got last July, which ARE guaranteed to hold their rate. And sadly that rate isn't available anymore.

Actually, I'm not sure that there are geographic restrictions. I came across the deal because I live nearby, but didn't ask if there were restrictions on who could apply.

I also saw "Must have AmericanDream SavingsAccount" in several entries; not a geographic restriction, but highly restrictive nonetheless.

The AmericanDream SavingsAccount is available to all. With no fees and minimums for the account, this is certainly one of the easier restrictions to meet to qualify for a high rate cd.

If you're referring to Amtrust 9m. @ 5.75%, I did a walk-in, but only because I live in the area. I didn't ask if they were strictly for walk-in.

I will call the branch on Monday and update this thread. Since some object to my posting the rate, I will remove the info if geographic restrictions apply.

5.75% 8-Month CD a Patelco CU (Available to All)

Patelco Credit Union (www.patelco.org) has improved its CD special called the Super Saver Certificate. The new offer is a 5.75% APY 8-month certificate (up from 5.35%) with a $1K minimum opening deposit. Additional deposits can be made during the term. The deposits must be at least $500. At least 50% of the funds used to open the account must be new money. The certificate is also available as an IRA with a $500 minimum opening balance. Patelco is privately insured by American Share Insurance (ASI) up to $250K per account.

They are waiving the $20 membership fee for this month, and you must have a savings account with them in order to get the CD. This deal ends on the 30th.

good idea to read the rules of this thread,
>Only FDIC Insured Banks in the USA as well as NCUA Insured Credit Unions with NO or MINIMAL restrictive membership requirements will be listed in the main rates section. Non federally insured Credit Unions will be listed in a separate section.

I did read the rules before I posted this. Anyone can join Patelco CU for $20, but this month they are offering free membership. I thought the main rate section was those posted on the first page of this thread. Where is the seperate section for non federally insured credit unions or did I need to post a new thread in the finance forum?

Thanks,
Dupontcobb

Thanks, DupontcobbNo new thread needed. Here's a commonly overlooked general credit union thread.

No new thread needed. Here's a commonly overlooked general credit union thread.

A lot of great credit union rates that don't meet the criteria for inclusion on the cd thread have been posted on the credit union thread. However, for non federally insured Credit Unions that are open to all, rates should go under the "Non NCUA Insured Credit Union CDS" section near the bottom of the quick summary on this thread.

PenFed is now advertising 5.25% apy on a 36 month share certificate on the main page of their website.

EDIT: ...but now the rates section is updated with a rate of 6.25% apy for certificates with terms of 3,4,5, & 7 years.

EDIT: And it is See the rate tables.
