LOL S0ssos I said same thing 1X in a Citibank thread about Wamu being the only true 100% free no stings attached Checking account I got flamed like crazy by people because of 2 bill payment waiver/DD loophole many people on here use. USBank is free also with 100$ minimum balance and they do have a fair number of B&M locations in CA. Their local staff has been very courteous and when we had and overdraft charge because we did not watch the balance closely they removed the charge after one simple phone call.
My main checking account (myAccess checking) is with BofA and i have no complaints with them. Their bill payment is great and is the gold standard amongst banks, IMO. Their local service level differs from Branch to Branch, IMO. With the main branch in my town, the service was mediocre at best, but with the smaller branch I bank now the service has been good.
I am currently opening and PMA account with Wells Fargo because i happen to have a mortgage (balance is almost high enough to meet the 25k threshold) with them and now with the 100 Free trade offer i have an incentive to try. On paper the Wells Fargo PMA account beats the benefits of the BofA myaccess acccount hands down, but I'll see how they perform before i switch more of my banking business to them. To do better than the Wells Fargo PMA I would have to upgrade BofA account to an MRA, which has a 50k minimum (25K for the first year) but that one still does not come with free trades , although the money market interest rates are better. Folks tend to complain a lot about the large banks, but still almost everybody banks with them. I like the free online banking and the 24/7 support that comes with larger banks, since i visit branches very rarely and do most of my banking with ATM's ore online. As long as they take care of the 1-2 problems i have in a year on average, I am happy. |

Sylock said: They tell me that they notified me in my March 06 statement. So I say, just a second and I look it up. Nothing.
I bet the paper statements came with a stuffer on a tiny sheet of paper, and they just forgot about the online statement accounts. I wonder how many people got an illegal undisclosed fee that way. |

Sightly out of topic but here is my question: Did anyone here deal with trasfereing CA BofA accout to other state after moving. The representative I talked to recommended colosing one, opening new one and writing check to yourself. But that's a pain in the #$$ - I woould have to change linking to many online savings, I recently signed-up for Alaska debit card ($30 fee - needed 3000 miles for free ticket) etc. I also never yet got $50 bonus for savings openning. I would hate to go into all the hassle they recommend with money losses... Any one can recommend alternatives? |

I did exactly that and any new account that I opened would be assigned to my current state but 'link' to all other existing accounts under the same sign-on. |

FDIC Improvement Act of 1991 - Truth In Savings
"SEC. 263. DISCLOSURE OF INTEREST RATES AND TERMS OF ACCOUNTS.
d) Misleading Descriptions of Free or No-Cost Accounts PROHIBITED.--No advertisement, announcement, or solicitation made by any depository institution or deposit broker may refer to or describe an account as a FREE or NO-COST account (or words of similar meaning) if--
(1) in order to avoid fees or service charges for any period-- (A) a minimum balance must be maintained in the account during such period; or (B) the number of transactions during such period may not exceed a maximum number; or (2) any regular service or transaction fee is imposed."
This is the letter of the law, codified to 12 U.S.C. 4302(d). |

Thanks OP & FW, green for you. I have a BofA Checking and it started charging monthly fees. Now I initiated an automatic DD of $5 from another financial institution and the fees will cease. |
