I use to have EBank..the debit card is a mastercard....they will cover rebates worldwide, but will not cover currency conversion fees...

Does anyone know if Ebank clears checks immediately after they are deposited? I couldn't find it on their website. I currently use NetBank and I love it that they don't hold the funds for any deposits, electronic or paper, local or out-of-town, but after 7 years, I think it's time to ditch NetBank.

I just ditched NetBank for Ebank myself. I've never sent Ebank a check directly but when I do transfers from Citibank it takes 2 days and the money shows up as available on the 2nd day, no hold which I think is pretty good. During the first 30 days of an account, they do put holds on large paper check deposits however. Something like 5 days. Also note that the initial deposit you send them when you first open your account will be held for 15 days. I didn't realize this and tied up several thousand dollars for a couple of weeks.

do you think ebank will stay at 5percent even after the fed continues to tighten?

This looks to be dead, as the deal is gone from the main page and it's not on their rate sheet any longer.

I didn't think it would last forever....it was listed as promotional on their rate page.....

If you don't mind dropping most of your money into a good MM Fund (5% plus apy) get the Fidelity "MY Smart Cash Account" and buy the Fidelity Select MM Fund within it....You can keep a 0 balance in the Checking and all your free overdrafts from the 5% plus MM Fund will cover it for you, turning it into a 5% Checking with Unlimited Free Atm Rebates, free checks, excellent (checkfree) bill pay, Outstanding Online Banking and Customer Service is the best....

Not sure about new customers, but I'm still receiving 5% APY as of today.

When I logged into my account, this is what it says:

Interest Information:
Current Interest Rate: 4.9600%

I'm seeing the same thing, but I would wager that they are going to drop our rates soon. If it's a small drop, I'll stick with them for a while longer but if it's sizable, I think I will look to the Fidelity "MY Smart Cash Account" that craig10x mentioned.

yeah they are only giving my 2.9% and their website/customer service is awful.

I am switching to Fidelity right now

My statement cycled on 9/15, and I am still getting the 4.96% rate.

But Amy Jones, who was also my "personal banker" upon account setup, is not answering emails of late. She was very responsive before August...

Anyone else having a problem with less responsive customer service?

It took her a week to respond to a simple request I sent via email. That's an easy way to upset a customer.

Just logged into my account - rate is now down to 4.47% APR. Time to get the money out of there!

Yup. Customer service has gone down the drain.

Also, a phone rep just told me that they will be dropping the rate on my 5-star account to match the rate sheet within a few days. I don't know if this is actually true or not, but it's enough to scare me away.

I can't decide between Fidelity, Schwab, or SalemFive Direct. Fidelity and Schwab unfortunately don't provide balance information at the ATM, which is important for the way me and my wife track our spending. SalemFive looks good, but I don't want the ebank situation all over again...

makeinu, Fidelity assured me they WILL be adding the Balance info to the atm access, it just takes time for them to get it set up...so if you have a little patience, i would suggest you go ahead and get set up with My Smart Cash where you can have a 5% Checking account with unlimited rebates, but far better customer service and stability then you had with EBank.....

Meanwhile you can track your balances online and over the phone with them...and in a few months, you WILL be able to see them at atms..

I have a Fidelity account and I'm not particularly in love with it. Over the last six months I've literally spent days on the phone/online with Fidelity representatives trying to straighten out problems created by bugs in their computer systems (recurring statement errors, problems connecting accounts via Moneyline, etc). When things work the way they're supposed to Fidelity is great, but when things go haywire (which happens all too often) it's a nightmare. Even when Fidelity finally rolls out the balance info feature, it's likely to be riddled with bugs, which means I'll probably have another nightmare on my hands. I'm sure it will eventually work well, but how many years will it take?

Thanks for the info makeinu. I am currently in the Ebank boat and have been contemplating the Fidelity switch but your comments give me pause. Maybe I'll give them a few more months to get the kinks out.

Funny, other then not be able to view balances at atms, i haven't noted any real "bugs" in fidelity's system, and i have been with them for over 15 years....The situation with the balances is a little different, as they are a brokerage house, and now that they got into a "bank type" product (my smart cash) they realize there are certain things banking customers like to have, like balances at atm machines (lol)....

keensyntax..take the FSLXX auto-overdrafting to the my smart cash core...i have been doing it for over two months now, and have not experienced one "failure" on it...does that sound like a "bug-riddled" system to you???

Just for clarification (so that you don't get the wrong impression from makeinu) not showing the balances at the atms is not a bug in their system, they just didn't have it set up that way...now they are working on setting it up, since they realize that people coming from banking products like to see it....

To give you some examples of the most frustrating bugs I've encountered:
-I have 17 bank accounts in my Fidelity Moneyline. Most of them went through the Moneyline prenote just fine, but two of them wouldn't go through properly. In both of the failure cases Fidelity just kept informing me that the prenote failed and that I should just add the account again, but the banks in question kept telling me that Fidelity's prenotes were being rejected because they were improperly formatted. Fidelity insisted that they needed authorization before establishing the Moneyline, but refused to contact the banks in question via any other means; telling me that the prenotes would simply have to be accepted, improperly formatted or not. It took hours upon hours to convince Fidelity to call the banks to verify my account information.
-If you try to instant message a rep using the Safari web browser the chat session will start as normal. The rep will receive your initial question and your first instant message, but none of your following instant messages. Until you are aware of this bug it is very annoying, as after you start the discussion with the rep it appears that they are simply snubbing your later questions/comments before rudely "hanging up" the chat session. If the Safari browser isn't supported then the Fidelity chat should pop up a warning or simply not let you enter the chat.
-For the last 4-5 months my Fidelity statement has shown a balance on my AMEX debit card. There is no balance, AMEX confirms that there is no balance, but my statement shows it every month. Fidelity has yet to fix this problem and although they've promised me it would be fixed this month, they've told me that many times before.
-Funds transfered into my brokerage account via Moneyline are supposed to be available for trading immediately. While it's true that they are always available, the Fidelity interface sometimes tells me otherwise. I know they are available because when I just ignore it and trade anyway my trades always go through, but who wants to deal with figuring out little misinformation quirks like this?

I also disagree that you haven't experienced failures with the overdraft feature. You've reported that turning off overdrafting does not prevent MMF shares purchased with the mysmart account from being used to cover overdrafts on the actual mysmart account. You may like it that way, but according to Fidelity reps that should not happen. Other FWers have also reported overdrafts failing when the overdraft feature was supposed to be turned on.

I'm not saying that the missing balance inquiries at ATMs is a bug. I'm saying that I expect there to be bugs when it is rolled out, just like there are bugs with the rest of their systems. That's ok with me because I prefer such bugs to the unknowledgeable reps at places like BoA, or the complete disregard of policies, rules, and regulations (for good and for bad) at places like USAA or Ascencia, etc. However, I don't know if I'm willing to deal with a six month wait on top of the bugs when it comes to a feature important to me in a checking account.

Down again. ePremium is now 2.5% APY and eFree is now 1.5% APY.

alert mods

My account is still showing as 4.47%. They don't seem to be passing along the rates they advertise for new accounts to existing customers. At least not yet.
