keensyntax said:My account is still showing as 4.47%. They don't seem to be passing along the rates they advertise for new accounts to existing customers. At least not yet. They seem to be as of today. My rate is down to 2.5% APY, so I just called and converted to a free checking account, and will be ACH'ing out the balance today.

Same here. Actually, instead of ACH I wrote a check to top off my SECU CD.

Yeah... I guess I'll be opening a Fidelity account now. It's too bad... I liked Ebank.

Well, in fact the eFree checking account is a good pair for the CapOne credit cards when you go abroad, so I'll stick with that.
Of course the account balance will be nothing to brag about.

Fidelity My Smart Cash will get you a 5% checking/savings vehicle (by purchasing FSLXX to cover your core checking debits with a zero balance in it) and it's also unlimited free atms, and great for overseas use as the only charge will be a 1% visa currency conversion fee (which i believe you got with EBank also) the conversion fee is much lower then many banks charge these days...

keensyntax has the right idea!

maybe I'm old-fashioned here but I would not trust my money to any bank that has "e-" or "net" in its name.

That's funny. I have a NetBank, VirtualBank, eBank, ING Direct, Amtrust Direct, GMAC and Emigrant Direct account among other online bank accounts and B&Ms like Wachovia and Bank of America and the only one I've ever had any real complaints about and have sworn off is Citibank. Trying to collect a promised $100 account opening bonus from them is like an act of congress.

Craig, you're right, as usual. But right now BoA NEA account is a better choice for local accounts, and I'm even close to Atlanta.
The Fidelity setup appears to me as a future possibility. Not to mention that I don't feel like opening new accounts right now (or does Fidelity offer juicy offers right now?)

Anyway, since I only plan to travel to Europe (especially the western part) in the near future, where ATM fees are usually nada, I'm not worried at all.

No juicy offers, Florian, but it is a very nice set-up
