Would have been better if they stuck another zero on that total but $25 back is better than nothing.
Confirmed. I saw the same thing. CAP is $500 for 5%. Additional amounts are just up to 2%. |

Any speculation what would happen if I were to purchase some junk at Lowe's close to the end of the promo, have it post, then take it back for a credit after requesting my rebate? |

The discover card promo's are lowering their caps each quarter. The old tuition promo was $2000 capped. The last promo was a $1000 cap. Now $500 (max earnings of $25). Not enough to convince me to use my card a lot. |

This is slightly OT, but I've been very happy with ShopDiscover, Discover's answer to fatwallet & Citi Dividend Merchants, etc. The Cash Back for nearly all the purchases I've made @ Drugstore.com (10% Cash Back) & iTunes (5%) has been credited quite promptly at statement-close. And they've expanded their list of merchants adding most notably (for all the Mac/iPod fans out there) the Apple Store at a hefty 5% Cash Back. |

Can someone tell me what was the 5% category and the stores for the current month? I couldn't find that information. I am sure there was a post on that - but couldn't find that post either. |

I know i could call Discover and ask but I thought I would try the easy route first. Does anyone know if you will get the bonus CashBack on all purchases that come from an apparel merchant or just the ones specifically listed? Thanks!

I don't think that's the case, transactions fairly regularly get listed as happening in the days that follow the actual purchase, I could come up with dozens of examples from my credit cards. |

Does my Discover Gas card have these same opportunities? I can't seem to find anything on my account pages. I'll e-mail customer service, but thought someone might know up front. I love my sweet, sweet 5% back on gas. |

I love my sweet, sweet 5% back on gas. As far as I know, Gas card or Mile card are not qualified for 5% Get More. Only those "regular" Discover cards without any reward program are eligible for the 5% Get More. |

I don't think that's the case, transactions fairly regularly get listed as happening in the days that follow the actual purchase, I could come up with dozens of examples from my credit cards. The purchase in question posted as follows:
04/01/07 04/01/07 Travelocity HOTEL RESERV 800-256-9089 TX $ 87.42 ---------------------------------------------------- 03/31/07 04/03/07 PLN*Priceline.com RNTL 888-837-3774 OH $ 218.60 04/03/07 04/03/07 CashBack BONUS MISCELLANEOUS ADJ $ -4.15 04/04/07 04/05/07 Travelocity HOTEL RESERV 800-256-9089 TX $ -17.98 04/11/07 04/11/07 CashBack BONUS MISCELLANEOUS ADJ $ -10.93
The CSR gave me manual credit for the purchases. She said because the transaction dates on her record shows that these two transactions (Travelocity and Priceline) were done on 3/31 she would follow thru and credit for the transactions.
I would normally not expect post dates nor even transaction dates to be the date of the actual transaction necessarily but because I called being concerned whether I made the 3/31 cutoff and the CSR could see that the Travelocity purchase should indeed have been a 3/31 transaction date that's why I am suspicious. The CSR was also puzzled why the transaction date appeared 4/1 on my statement, therefore she gave me manual credit.
However I shouldn't malign Discover so quickly because on another transaction with Priceline.com (also a different card), I did not have to return CashBack for a bid I cancelled in March (before placing the 3/31 bid), because the cancellation transaction date appeared 4/2 and post date 4/4 on my statement. So maybe it was Priceline's fault that their transactions appear so late. Funny that on a previous Priceline bid on 3/24, both transaction and post date showed up as 3/24 on the statement and that was on a Saturday too.
Bottomline, is I wouldn't have gotten credit for the 3/31 transactions if I didn't call, but I also got an extra $10+ in CashBack because the cancellation fell out of the promotion period.
BTW, the Travelocity -17.98 adjustment was for their Best Rate Guarantee. I already applied a $50 Best Rate Guarantee coupon to the purchase and received ANOTHER $50 BRG coupon due to this adjustment. Many good deals to be had, thanks to FW and the internet
another edit: The above transactions appeared in two different statement cycles, which is why the -4.15 for Travelocity is not quite 5% (I was given .22 or .25% in the previous statement).
update: I got paid $10.93 in CashBack bonus for Priceline at statement close, so I called Discover to report the double payment. Figured I should be honest since the CSR was courteous enough to follow thru with the manual adjustments. |

I guess it is better than nothing...but a very disappointing cap nonetheless. I hope this is not the direction the program is going. |
