So wondering if I should buy a bunch of gas gift cards before switching to Get More.if you buy the gas cards at the gas station, it should work for the 5% ... you could also see if an auto parts store like AutoZone or Pep Boys sells gift cards for gas, because they also could for the 5% until the end of the year remember it is only $100 per month too, you could do that 3 more times this year, then last week of December, switch to the More Card so that it starts Jan 1 2010 |

So, if your billing closes on Dec. 28, you have until Jan. 28 to earn the 5%. |

Discover data point - I have an $18,600 CL with them which I just paid down to $0 - asked for a CLI - the e-mail made it sound like they will not even consider a CLI for anyone with a CL above $12,000. I still like Discover an have multiple uses for their cards. |

Check your DiscoverCard Get More rewards zone November 1. There will be an additional Get More rewards offer valid thru Christimas. This is in addition to the current quarterly one. Update to my original post here--DiscoverCard sign said:]up to earn 2% CashBack Bonus on Internet and department, clothing, shoe and jewelry store purchases from 11/15/09 (or the date on which you sign up, whichever is later) through 12/31/09, subject to a cap of $1,000 in purchases. These purchases must post to your account by 12/31/09. Department stores are defined as retail establishments selling a wide variety of merchandise, with separate checkout counters in each department. Clothing, shoe and jewelry stores are defined as stand-alone men's, women's and children's retailers primarily selling clothing, shoes or jewelry. If a purchase is coded for a category other than those listed above, it will not qualify. Purchases earning 2% CashBack Bonus will not count toward your total annual purchases to determine your tier level. Allow up to 5 weeks for this reward to be added to your CashBack Bonus account. Only Discover More, Open Road and Motiva Cardmembers are eligible to participate in this program. See CashBack Bonus Program Terms and Conditions for further details. Now that I read all the fine print, this deal is not so hot since we have another card that pays 2% until it's anniversary date. |

Just use your Discover card and earn DOUBLE CashBack Bonus on up to $1,000 in holiday purchases November 15th through December 31st at: * Department Stores * Clothing Stores * Shoe Stores * Jewelry Stores * Any Online Shopping Are you pondering what I'm pondering? Surely this is not completely correct. |

No, is 0.50% (2 times 0.25%) if you haven't hit that first tier of $3,000 (based on the anniversary date). Because of the extremely low first tier and the 1-2% I could get with almost any other card, I don't bother, although I suppose if I had free time I could buy $3000 in coins and hit that tier next anniversary year. |

For those that have the 0% interest on purchases into January offer, I learned (from their e-mail) that purchases do not include any Cash Back. Assuming they use the industry standard of applying payments to the lowest interest first, you could lose the benefit of the 0% if you get Cash Back. Of course $400 on groceries (the limit for 5%) does not go far if you buy for a family. If you use this and have another high returns card, you may wish to stop the check out when you have reached $400 (which means knowing how close you are when you go into the store)and shift to another card (say the AMEX 5% on Thank you points offer if you have it). |

Discover could make it clearer then. I've always steered clear from Discover Double Ca$hback offers because double 0.25% isn't much. But, if the purchases in those category don't could in the normal tiers, then it is 2%. |

Safe to assume you don't get the 5% bonus if you do CashBack at a grocery store (never tried, thought I saw a thread about that a while back)? |

On a different note, if i dont reach the $400 cap by end of Dec (i got the card in Nov), i should just buy gas/supermarket giftcards to get it to $400?

It depends on how the credit card authorization code is set. The stores cannot change it. Some Customer Service counters have a different code. YMMV. UPDATE: We are trying this, but it will be the second week in December before we know the results. It did show as "Grocery" on the account website. UPDATE: I cannot yet report on the grocery gift cards, but I can report that it DID work when we bought $100.00 of Boston Market GCs last billing cycle as mentioned in this Fat Wallet thread.. |

bankdealsrule said:Can anyone confirm this with evidence?!? Does anyone have a screenshot of either the email or proof (from receipt & statement) that shows that you will not earn 5% bonus on the cash you get back from a grocery store (where grocery stores allow you to get some cash with your purchase)??Discover does not pay CashBack on Cash Over. Merchants are required to specifically code these transactions. See http://www.discovernetwork.com/paymentsolutions/features/cashove... for more information. If you simply add up the 5% bonus on your statement, you'll find that Cash Over transactions are excluded from earning any CashBack. While I'm not going to attach a screenshot of my last Discover statement, I can confirm that my Cash Over transactions at safeway did not earn 5% CashBack. |

I received an email promoting the DiscoverCard "Get More" program. It specified some local restaurants where I can use the DiscoverCard. The selection seems to be based on zipcode. If I do so by the end of November, I am to receive $5.00 in DiscoverCard rewards. Only one $5 reward per account. What is weird is I received the email, but Mom did not. YMMV, but it won't hurt to look at your email to see if you get such an email too. I used mine at Arby's which did not cost me $5.00. The other Arby's in town is not on the list in my case. I think because it is in a different zipcode. Naturally, I'd be curious if other FW folks get such an email too. |
