UPDATE: I had to call the next morning to verify my account(because I have fraud alerts set-up when opening any new account)
I spokes to the CSR, he set up my account, and he said he could send me 25 FREE checks) make sure u uncheck the box for checks when signing up- there sending my ATM/Check card in the mail

Will wait for up to 60 days, and hope the 50 dollar bonus goes through-
trying to set-up online access(but may need to wait till atm/check card comes) or I can go to the WACHOVIA Bank itself , deposit the minimum 100 dollars, and wait till 50 bucks credits my acccount

GOOD LUCK everyone!

Called in today to verify I applied online and finish activating my account. They are based somewhere in the south and have some really cute sounding Financial CSRs (mainly Lori =)

Also, since they do a hard pull pull, they offered me a CC on the spot when applying for the account. I declined, but I looked at the Wachovia CC online and its 0.0% promotional APR BT... http://www.wachovia.com/personal/page/0,,11_10104_10107,00.html

Now that I think about it I should have accepted it since they would have shared the same hard pull! Future note: when applying for bank accounts with hard pulls, look if they offer any CC's so they can share the same hard pull.

Same thing happened to me, were you able to fund the account via ACH?

011100106 try this routing number.

They should be sending you a direct deposit sign up slip which has your account number and routing number on it.

Thanks for the replies, I used 021101108, transfered $100, hopefully it works.

checked all of my 3 credit reports today....no hard!

michaeldalian said: i just walked on one of my nearby wachovia branches and opened a free checking account..the clerk first said this promotion was for new customers only as i already had a checking and a CD with wachovia..i insisted that the offer doesn't say this..she called someone and verified this is for new checking accounts..she then became excited and spread the news to other clerks...they all got together and talked about it..im sure they all gonna take advantage of this promotion...i will check my credit report and see if they gave a hard inquiry..looks like to me they didn't...

I don't have a green card either.. I called it in, but then they told me to go to the branch in person to complete (they had the record of what I had entered already when I got there). They did fax in a credit check, but not to a US credit bureau! Am all set up for the 50 credit, and while it took a while, no problems..

Don't forget to check their "Wachovia at Work" program. Maybe your company/university/prison is a member and you can get some extra benefits. The one that I took advantage of was a free safety deposit box for a year..

prastogi said: Unfortunately for non-GC holders, they want you to call in to complete application..bummer....and takes away from the hotness of the $50

stupid patriot law or whatever.... opened so many accounts before but never saw this issue....F...

Does anyone have the mailing address for where you send your initial deposit if you are sending it with a "Bill pay" feature?

Just opened an account with Wachovia. This checking account can not be linked to external bank accounts. So, basically, you can only transfer money within Wachoiva. It's kinda useless...but for the extra $50, I will stay with them for a few months.

How did you find this out?

I funded via ACH. Hopefully the "test deposits" don't ruin my $100 min initial deposit for the promo.

hard pull even for existing banking customers (I have another checking with them)

My ACH transfer failed, guess I have to head to the branch.

You recently requested the following Bank To Bank Transfers request:

Amount: $100.00
From: ONLINE SAVINGS
To: Wachovia Bank, Checking

Unfortunately, the funds could not be successfully delivered to the following account: Wachovia Bank, Checking. As a result, the funds will be credited back into the following account: HSBC Bank USA, N.A..

I was also offered "pre-approved" for a CC on the spot, with 0% for 6 months. 8K credit line, which I'll try to increase when I call them today. There are no BT fees either if you use one of the three checks that come in the welcoming package.

Signed up Online yesterday with no problems. Was expecting a hard pull to TU but..

they pulled Experian instead.

They think I live in a storage facility. Even if I did, what's the problem with that?

Is the welcome package the one with the signature form? I didn't receive any checks or deposit slips.

subwayrider, could you post a direct link to that please? i can't find it on the wachovia website. thanks.

How did the CLI go?

Thanks OP! Easy enough.

So deposit one check, pay it off in 5 months, then deposit a second check. Extend the 0% for almost a year.

He's refering to the welcome package for the credit card. Its completely separate from the welcome package for the checking account.

waste of time, but they sure are gathering a ton of information on people

Since you get hit with the hard pull anyway, I called up to ask if they can process a CC application using the same credit report. The CSR said yes, and took my application. We'll see. It could be useless, but if they give me a good CL they have a no-fee 6 month BT using promotional checks you get with account opening.

How long after they initially pulled your credit did they accept the request for a CC?

Uh Oh

Your request requires further processing by one of our Financial Specialists. You will be receiving a call or email from one of our representatives within 24 hours to complete your application.

I saw this language and hinted to the CSR about this opportunity. The CSR verified to me that it's 6 months from the time I activated the CC, not anything else. I held onto the other checks just in case, though.

BTW, my initial credit line of 8K was bumped up to 15K without another pull. I didn't want to push it further, though.

I'm actually still waiting on my checking account info. so I can gain access online...

CycloneFW said: Fortunately, its 6-mo of BT. So I did a 5-mo BT. Paid it off two days before statement closing. Two days after statement closing, wrote myself another check for the next 6-mo.

Not a penny in interest since July 06! The checks themselves say something along the lines of 6-mo 0% from the date the check posts if used within the first 6 billing cycles.

Watch out for the dormant account fee. I think it's 1 year, but can't seem to find it right now on their site. I moved money in from PayPal thinking it would reset the count, but they charged me because ACH transfers don't count! It has to be a check or debit card transaction or an ATM deposit. Yes it's in there in the fine print and multiple CSRs refused to remove the fee. So I just closed it and had them send me a check.

I'm going to do this just to get some money out of them and close in 6 months.

Well, that will be great! I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks for the info.

I received the check card today, it says activate it only if you have your PIN, does the PIN arrive by mail or was it chosen during the application process?

Thanks OP. Green for you. Also, I did enter my pin in the application process, TonySpero.

Signed up for this. They pulled TU.

Emailed may saying I need to speak with them on the phone to activate the account. Rep was helpful and got online banking setup right away. Also said I was approved for a $12k line on their credit card which has 6 month 0% APR on it. Had planned on applying for this anyways, but got discouraged by the need to call to apply. Guess it all worked out.

Signed up as well. Got the same "needs further processing by finance specialist" screen.

First time, I called in and the CSR didn't know why I was getting that message because he said my app looked fine (although he said it still needed to be reviewed by the "back end", whatever that means). I was told people were getting that message sporatically, and if I wanted to process my app by phone I'd lose out on the $50 promo. He suggested I should reapply online.

Second time, same message. Called in again, and was told I need to speak to "Online Banking" to open the account with the promo by phone. Talked to online banking and they said the CSR I talked to didn't know what she was talking about, and transfered me back to customer service.

Finally got it open by phone with the promo. I didn't get the online banking setup though. Actually I didn't know and wasn't told that you could do it by phone. Bah. Wachovia really needs to get their act together (or maybe it was just me ).

Anyways, sorry for the rant, just thought I'd share my experience.

Oh yea, and they pulled TU on me also.

Yeah...they told me "requires further processing".....I'll wait for call or email.

I have a checking account with them that only has $1. I did not use the account at all last year and no dormant fee. I use it for transferring money from my paypal account when I sell something.

FYI, If you want to use Quicken (or other software) it will cost $5.95 a month for each account, unless you have a "Crown" account. Online services are only free if you use their website starting April 1st.
