I mean, unless you don't have enough of a limit to handle your monthly expenses or you can pull on it for free balance transfers to stick into the market or some other asset asccount, why request an increase? I mean, it’s not like its increasing your net worth or anything--its just some imaginary number. Do you get warm fuzzies by having AMEX validate you? I'm not trying to be an ass--just trying to understand why it’s such a victory to get a CL raised from 15K->25K when you only spend 5K/month.
Hey Pushback, I was wondering the same thing. Someone posted that this helps your ratios? How does this help your credit score? TIA |

if your credit limit goes up, your credit utilization goes down and that boosts your credit score. in pushback's example, that would lower the ratio from 33% to 20%. |

I just had two of my cards bumped up and one of my wife's.
$14.8K -> $29K $14.2K -> $29K $10K -> $29K
Reported income: $80K and I can back it up if an FR takes place. I really like AMEX and I'll level with them if they ask why I wanted such large limits given my income. I use their competitors' 0% money and I use AMEX for many of my purchases because I like AMEX the best.
I left my $25K limit card alone. With my recent AOR and tapping out several lines to 89% available credit, these new credit limits should help my ratios and in turn raise my credit score. Thanks for the info OP! |

But I thought AMEX does not report to the bureaus unless you go delinquent.
I don't know where you got that idea but it's wrong. |

AMEX business cards do not report to your personal credit unless you are delinquent. you can effectively hide debts/bt's. Chase, citi,crap1, discover,advanta also do not report business credit lines to your personal reports. They are easy to get since they are PG and they are really pushing these cards. i've got about 300K in business limits unseen. |

I just went from 1,000 to 24,900 on two cards that I had reallocated the credit line from to a different card.
My girlfriend just went from 24,600 to 34,000 on her starwood card.
This is a great thread. |

Well, somebody had to break the streak
I have a Blue at 25k and a Hilton at 20k on income of just over 50k. I asked for 5k on the Hilton just to make it match Blue but got a "we'll let you know in 7-10 days."
FWIW, I did get an increase on Hilton 1 month ago (Jan. 2). |

I guess you're right, either you go for it or not, regardless of the number of cards you have, you can only have ONE FR, not several. I'll pass, meanwhile working on increasing the HHI. Good luck to you though. |
