I faxed them the info and my transfer proceeded normally, the funds are now in my FNBO account.

This morning I saw they posted interest for month of June. 06/29/2007 INTEREST PAYMENT $58.12
I have around $153k and my $150 deposit was on 6/29. This proves that FNBO gives you interest on available balance and NOT collected balance. My $150k check hit yesterday and I got interest for that...I checked my BOFA NEA account and I have the $150k there too !!

I am not concerned with this bank, but FYI I think your coverage is $100k for you and $75K for your wife. Believe they would only pay $100K per individual so 150/2 leaves only 25 covered in the second account.

FDIC Insured Deposits at FNBO Direct are FDIC insured up to $100,000 per depositor - the maximum allowed by law. Individual and joint accounts are insured separately. If you have both types of accounts with us, your total deposits can be insured up to $200,000.
I believe this is saying he is okay. He'll be insured up to 200k (100k per account) and his wife can be insured up to 100k on the joint account. So techinally he and his wife can be insured up to 300k in both accounts.
Sorry, don't need to be bothered with the tool.

By the way, was glad to see my interest of around $550 hit my account today. This bank is fine, don't really get all the complaints. I plan on leaving my money here as long as they stay above what Emigrant and HSBC are paying. I don't think they'll go below 5.25 after the promotion. I like chasing the 6 percent teasers, especially this one due to the length of time the rate was guaranteed, but I'm getting confused by the amount of internet banks I have out there. Unless another one is guaranteeing a great rate for a very nice length of time, I plan on sticking here.

I think you are incorrect. The total combined fdic insurance is 200k. Thats what the rules say and that is also what the fdic estimator tool gives for a result.

I think before the promotion they were 5.3 or something. I'm taking all mine out after the promotion, only because I got the AAA BOA account paying 5.37 APY on balances above 50K. That's a lot better for me than FNBO at the same rate, because it's local (I can walk to my nearest branch), and I get checking accounts and other benefits (including the opportunity to make money using Keep The Change).

My first interest payment posted, not bad or any problems to speak of. I used it pay credit cards via a pull from cc website. Not as visually attractive as ING Electric checking, but I made $50 more this month in interest.

Misleading!
FDIC insured limited is per category. The accounts are held in different categories such as: single accounts, retirement accounts, joint accounts and revocable trust accounts...
So you can have 1 your own single account $100k, your couple's single account $100k and 1 joint account $200k for up to $400k insured in one bank. If you open anoter category account such as retirement account, you can have insured higher than $400k.

No that is not covered by FDIC at any bank. FDIC only insures against loss of deposits if an FDIC-insured bank fails.

I agree with Hoops77 and Hudendak. If you understand how FDIC coverage is calculated you won’t have to rely on the tool.
FDIC insures accounts, in federally insured institutions, at a minimum of 100K per account category, per person, per bank.
The categories* include single accounts, joint accounts, certain retirement accounts, and revocable trust accounts.
This means that if a person has funds in each of these categories at an insured bank, he will have at least $400K of FDIC coverage at that bank.
Since FNBO only offers two of the categories of accounts, namely single account and joint account, the maximum amount of coverage per person would be 200K.
For husbands and wives that pool their finances, this would mean 200K for the husband and 200K for the wife resulting in a combined FDIC coverage of 400K at FNBO.
*Maximum amount of coverage by category:
Single accounts = 100K per person Joint accounts = 100K per person Retirement accounts = 250K per person Revocable trust accounts (POD, ITF, ATF) = 100K per person per qualified beneficiary

I mailed it to following address from Sherman Oaks CA. I dont know about hold but I dont care. Also I double dipped 3 days and not 2 days as I had initially thought. Fri, sat and sunday... FNBO Direct PO Box 3707 Omaha, NE 68103-0707
I will be writing one more BIG check to almost empty the NEA account...There are no minimums or penalties for maitaining less than $500 right ? I checked the link and did not find any except that the interest is much lower than 6.22 . Anyway I am planning to close it after the second check hits FNBO. Also since July 4 is a postal holiday I will mail the NEA check tomorrow ( mon ) from CA ...Hopefully FNBO gets it on Fri

I started this account about 45 days ago, have made multiple deposits and have been satisfied with the ease of use. The only downside would be that the dividend is taxed at the regular rates.
I noticed a previous poster was taking of multiple 6 figure accounts; perhaps an A3 preferred stock at the 15% rate or Master Limited Partnership (some double tax free) would be a preferable option?

I can't stand the whole log in thing since I can never remember the username or passwords or security questions and I got so fedup of calling all the time that I just decided to close it.
They have the most retarded system. The point of a good password systems is one that you don't have to write anything down. This systems has so many variables that have to be met that it is impossible to remember everything without writing everything down.

Seems like you were looking for a reason to leave? I have no problems with my FNBO account as it only asks me those questions when I clear my cookies or log on from another computer (e.g. at work). My local bank has instituted a more stringent system where it asks questions every single time you log in from a set of FOUR random questions you selected. I have to think for a few seconds sometimes but that makes me feel better knowing that my account has at least another thin layer of protection.
I just think it's silly to leave over their log-in security measures. I see on 6/29 interest was deposited into my account. I'm very impressed. After the month ends, CitiBank takes something like 2-3 weeks to post and PayPal takes a week.

I had just emptied out all of my HSBC savings account because I kept having to call customer service because it seemed the virtual keyboard phase just never worked for me.... Then they had their new money promotion and I put it all back.
Now I use Roborform to fill out all my log-on screens and its made life easy.
