rollingrock said:Great to hear about the no fees on etrade for low balances. I'm seriously considering moving over to Alliant CU, they seem to be among the best rates for Checking/Savings. Any comments on Alliant? Historically, how have their rates been? Etrade was nice a few months ago, but now its a measly .095%, will Alliant bait and drop as well?

Alliant CU is excellent...and they have had a long time reputation for keeping their rates at or near the "top of the pack"....they have been moving the rates down in very small increments in the current "interest rate dropping" environment.....they wouldn't pull an "etrade" that's for sure....and Alliant does not "bait".....

There's an Alliant thread here http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/finance/814399/ - I'm in the process of moving my stuff over to them.

It looks like Etrade has slightly modified their posting policies for their QuickTransfer service. Transfers in will now post the day after the request - request a $1,000 transfer in on 6/29, it will post (and be withdrawn from the source account) on 6/30.

Apparently they've eliminated the ability to double-dip with interest by scheduling the transfer to post on Friday but not be withdrawn from the source account until the following Monday (although Etrade's rate is hardly worth it these days, even when double-dipping).

Glitch, are you basing this on a single event? Is this something very recent? I'm asking b/c I'm still using E*TRADE as a hub and have not noticed the change ... but I'll admit that I was not paying very close attention.

But the big obnoxious yellow box detailing how my request submitted 6/29 will post on 6/30 (when they previously posted the same day as the request) leads me to believe it is not isolated, and that they are trying to make the new posting dates clear to users. There had been no change as of a week ago, and no big obnoxious yellow box, when I submitted a transfer request last week.

But by all means let me know if it isnt universal.

I noticed this today as well. Bummer. An extra day of lag on transfers.

I think the thing to do is to actually close it and then if they offer a competitive yield down the line, then open it back. Maybe they'll have another $25 or so bonus offer for opening a new account. But they'll definitely see something if a lot of us are closing savings accounts because of low yield.

I believe etrade has changed their policies so that it now takes 3 days for a transfer to complete.

How recent would that be? Does this refer to pulls or pushes?
As far as pushes -- it should depend on the destination institution and I have several that receive pushes next day.
As far as pulls -- I've seen the yellow box that Glitch mentioned, but I've had at least 2 pulls to E*TRADE (after Glitch's post) for which the yellow box said they'd be credited the same day (and they were). These were initiated before 4PM EST and not on Fri.

I just pulled $100 into my E*Trade bank account as a test.

Here is the message I received after hitting the submit button:

E*Trade said:$100.00 will be posted to your account today.

NOTE: Deposits will start earning interest from the date of posting. They will be available for withdrawal on the evening of the third business day after the posting date.

I've done a couple new transfers recently, and have gotten the same message, relaying the same timeframe there has always been.

I know I double-checked the dates, etc when I got the different message I noted earlier - if I remember correctly, I requested the "pull" on late Sunday night for Monday, and they said it'd post on Tuesday. But I've yet to see it replicated, either.

That sucks. Geez, with the changes on eOne at Salem Five, and Etrade really isn't that good anymore, there's definitely less competition. Definitely Etrade is now one of the worst (and I admit it used to be one of the best). That's why I closed everything with them.
