Has Schwab stopped offering the 2% Invest Rewards Visa Card? The link does not seem to work.

I was looking for a category of cards with the lowest interest rates. I did not see it on page 1. Ofttimes credit unions offer the lowest rates. NWFCU has a card at 7%.

If you don't carry a balance, interest rate is irrelevant. If you're looking to create a balance, a credit card is probably not the appropriate vehicle to do so.

If you might have to carry a balance in an emergency or need a quick loan it's good to know you have one of the lowest interest rates. Especially if you miss a payment or something like that.

Yes, but I called up customer service and they said they don't know anything about the letter. They just say that it wont be under citibank anymore and they have no info on any changes. I guess I'll find out soon

Another data point - I called up Associated recently and they said my account will not be cancelled/changed, the 5% rewards still apply and no changes unless I receive a notice in the mail, which I haven't received. I've been a customer for only 3 months. I'm still sending my payments to citibank through billpay. I hope that doesn't change.

Get a credit card that has a very low interest, get only one card, make sure that you pay it on time, and don't plan on canceling because canceling will negatively impact your credit score!

1. Shouldn't matter if you PIF.
2. Getting one card only is horrible idea in case place doesnt take visa mastercard AMEX etc, bank decides to close, ratejack(since apr matters to you), reduce limit. Also FICO requires more than one account to get decent score
3. Canceled cards stay on report for 10 years so unless its your only card its not important

I've had institutions in which I've applied for credit say they want to see at least three credit accounts on the credit report. Sort of catch-22: You have no credit score unless you have some credit accounts.

Overall: Ease of Use + Rewards + Visa = Penfed (5% Gas, 2% Groceries, 1.25% everything else)
Maximizing Rewards = No one card is perfect, but using a combo of Penfed for gas and Schwab 2% for everything else is good

PenFed for gas and Schwab 2% for all else. That's the ticket.

(too much hassle/not worth it to try to get 3% on groceries also...I'll settle for the 2% on Schwab)

PenFed won't give me a card.
I don't have a brokerage account at Schwab.

Any udder ideas?

Cross-posted from one of the Chase Freedom downgrade threads:

Most people here will tell you PenFed or Schwab, which are both good, but one requires membership in a credit union and likely an intrusive application process, and the other requires a Schwab brokerage account.

Personally, I've had the Capital One no hassles cash reward card (2% on gas and groceries, 1% on everything else, 0% APR on purchases for 12 months, no annual fee, cash out your rewards balance at any time) since mid-september and I'm very happy with it. I like the customized picture of my pets that they printed on the face of the card, so that was a factor for me as well. I applied for it in early September, and it was approved quickly and it's now my highest credit line.

Great simple solution for most people!
If you are a Costco member, just replace Schwab Visa with Fidelity Am3x.
I have both Costco and Sam's membership (due to business reason), but I just have not found a good card for Sam's. I prefer a MasterCard, but I do not see any MC has straight 2% ca$hback.

Best current:
1) Citi Diamond Preferred - 5% TYP on food, gas and drugs - guaranteed for one year
+
2) one of FIA/BoA 2% cards for everything else

Best of what many of us still have:
5% EDS and 3% everything else TYP - Citi AMEX Platinum for two years
(3% and 2% for new enrollments)

What card has a good rebate for a $2000+ Lowe's purchase? I have had the Citicard that paid 5% rebate for everything for three months and I have had the Citi Home Rebate card taht paid 6% on my mortgage. I don't think either exist now. I still have cards that will pay 1%.

I still have cards that will pay 1%. IIRC, lowes card gives 10% off first purchase which would be worthwhile. Alternatively, which is what I do, lowes gift cards can found on eBay for ~10% off, combine with bing and mr rebates and you have a bit over 20% off then add in a 10% off coupon(eBay ~$1-2 or lowes moving site) for total discount of 20%(new cc + coupon) or 30% off(gift card + coupon)

It doesn't look like Lowes offers 10% off new credit cards accounts at least at my local Lowes stores. I am planning on purchasing carpet so I can't buy it online and there are no mail in rebates right now. Their is a $139 whole house carpet install promotion going on that is good. I have the 10% off total purchase coupoun that comes in the post office change of address kits so that will help and I will use my Chase rewards card for another 1% rebate. Lowes requires full up front payment for carpet purchases so I should be able to use my coupon.

Also, for those interested this is my Credit Card rebate strategy...

I pay my credit cards off every 2 weeks to make sure I don't pay finance charges.

I still have a Chase 5% rewards card that I use at gas stations, drug stores and grocery stores. I has been rumored to be changing for the last two years. I keep my fingers crossed it doesn't.

I buy my gas with a Speedway cash card with a AAA logo. I purchased the AAA Speedway card and my local AAA office a couple of years ago. I refill the Speedway Cash card with my Chase card every few weeks and I get a 4% discount on the refil. I usually get a $100 refill for $96 on the Chase card. The use of the Speedy Cash card seems to be the quickest way to earn Speedy points (through the Speedway loyalty program). I value the points at about 1%. I figure I save about 10% on gas this way. I look for the Speedway for the lowest priced gas on Sunday withoug going out of my way. Sunday seems to be the best day to buy gas around here. I don't think anyone has better gas strategy than me.

I am selective about taking store credit cards. Only if I think it will save at least $100 on the initial purchase and then only 1 per year.

My meijer card often has 15% off on general merchandise. I wait for something I want such as a Canon DSLR camera to be on sale at the same time I can purchase it at a 15% saving. I have found this to be the least expensive way to buy things I want but don't need immediatly. Also, works great for items that are normally not on sale such as XBOX or Wii consoles.

My Kohl's card. I wait for the 30% off coupon and then stock up for what I think I need for a year.

I use my Discover card for its rebate on occassion. I have a new Discover Card offer for $100 rebate after $599 in purchases. Maybe I will get that for my carpet.
