Earn 5% Rebates at all BP locations, 2% Rebates on eligible travel and dining purchases and 1% Rebates on all other eligible purchases. And for up to the first 60 days, your Rebates will be doubled (10%, 4% & 2% respectively).
This is an old favorite here but I was surprised to see there is no active thread, nor mention of it in the credit card FAQ. So I'll post again for recent FWers (and so I can link into CC FAQ). No $75 gc or 0% intro APR these days though, still a good gas card if you don't mind sticking with BP, also 2% travel, airline, dining/1% everything else isn't too shabby. I've got two of them (applied for first & a second card was converted to it).
As discussed later in the thread:
1) I used this to buy a DisneyWorld vacation package and got 4% (almost $130) back on it. So besides being a general gas card, if you are planning a trip to a Disny Theme park (or probably any vacation package?) you can save a nice chunk if you apply for this just before buying it (to get doubled rebate). Also costs to get there (airfare or gas)
2) A second, more general smart strategy is to "prebuy gas" right before end of 60 day double period, by buying gift cards at a BP station. I bought $500 in gas cards and got %10 back on those too (thanks lostdude/dj for that tip!)
Doing both of above plus other gas & dining/travel purchases I got about $300 in rebates on this card during 60 day bonus period alone, most of them at 10% or 4%.

Mark, it's an "ok" card, but I still prefer AMEX Blue Cash for its 5%/1.5% structure with NO annual spending ceiling. I used to have a couple of Citi Dividend Select cards for EDP but was irritated at the $300 cap/year on rebates. I anticipate that I'll be receiving over $1400 this year back from AMEX......

I owuld have guessed that would have not qualified. Huh. Well, if that's true, perfect timing to find out for me! The promo period on my second card runs out on april 30th.

I anticipate that I'll be receiving over $1400 this year back from AMEX......understood. I used to use the predecessor to that card myself, the old "Green" AMEX cash rebate card, as much as possible when it came out 5+ years back, it even had a slightly better tier structure I recall?) But getting the first tier out of the way, and the limitations of where I could charge to AMEX made it difficult to maximize my return on it, and I eventually decided that for me personally it was not worth the hassle (not to mention for gas I used the AAA card for awhile, then the Discover Gas until they capped that too -- I do a lot of driving, so I definitely hit the caps, and I hate to have to keep track of them. And finally I'm one of the lucky few who got an invitation to the elusive RBS CustomCash Platinum, so I tend to charge most "generic" stuff to that to get 3% back on the biggest chunk of that monthly balance. Just a way of saying ti depends on your circumstances and other cards, how useful this card is.)
FYI this card is actually a lot more straightforward than AMEX or your Citi rewards, not less: Straight 5/2/1%, no tiers, no caps, and it's VISA so you can use it everywhere. Just need to find a BP stations when you need gas
In any case, my main point was just to get this card back in the FWF field of vision, since it didn't have a mention in the CC master FAQ thread.
Mark, I travel all over the U.S. and have met with only a handful of places which won't take AMEX. Of course, I AM irritated that the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Massachusetts will only take Visa/MC. Even Trader Joe's finally relented last year.
I actually use a Chase Rewards or Direct Rewards (HSBC) for 5% on EDP each year UNTIL I hit the $6500 tier with non-EDP expenses on AMEX. The 5% return on groceries and drugstores is a significant chunk of my rebate. That said, I could see the utility of the BP card if there were more BP stations around Boston.
The AMEX Blue Cash tier only makes the card valuable to folks who do some serious charging. Hey, I love to shop; it's genetically wired into most female brains...........

After you've burned through your 10% period and all your gift cards, I might recommend the Citi Driver's Edge MasterCard. I'm using that for its 6% back on gas/grocery/drug for the first year. If you also participate in the Drive Rewards program and drive enough miles, you can up-to double your rewards -- up to 12% in the first year, up to 6% in subsequent years. That means you can also earn up to 2% on all your "other" spending.
The Driver's Edge was best for me (for the first year). In general though, to find the card that will maximize your rewards, you might want to plug your spending profile into the rewards calculator at Credit Card Tune-Up: Discover the Best Credit Card Reward Deals.
BP gas is the costliest gas around here, so I do not generally prefer BP gas. But I use this card for travel. Good thing is..unlike freedom card deal we got recently, there is no cap on the amount you can spend in these special categories.
How do you get 12% with the Citi DE card with mileage points? I thought the most you could get the first year was (6% + 1% =) 7%. Am I missing something?
ThreeDJMay said:What is the largest amount of $$ someone put on a gift card before their double rewards ran out?I don't know, but following lostdude's & dj's tip, I bought $500 of gift cards in the last week of April, just before my double rewards ran out, and there were no issues.
Given the price of gas lately & how much I've been driving, I should have bought double that amount, I've almost used them up

Does anyone know if the 5% discount (10% promo) w/ this card is valid at BP related affiliates such as ARCO (am/pm)? It's not clear to clear to me from reading the terms and conditions.
Our local BP is advertising on their sign that their card was rated "Best Gas Credit Card" by somebody. I'll have to stop by and check out what the big asterix is all about.

jmz668 said:Was at a local BP and they had new application forms stating the rebate was 6% for 6 months and 3% afterwards. The forms looked spanking new.I've seen that one too. It's weird, at some stations you see one offer, at others, the other. Keep looking. I just saw the 10%/3mo one last week, I'm pretty sure.
p.s. don't forget about the 2% for airline/travel/dining (4% in first 3mos). If you have a vacation planned it is worth consider timing app to that, even if flying instead of driving. We went to DisneyWorld a couple months back, I bought an all-included package; since it was in the first 3 mos for my wife's card we got something like $130 in rebate from just that one purchase. I think I got over $300 in rebates for those first three months, supplementing gas and giftcard purchases with dining & airline & travel stuff.
I got this card last year with the $75 gift card offer, right before a vacation to Manhattan. The 4% Cash Back on airfare/lodging/dining came in very handy. After that I bought gas at BP stations to get up to the next $25 increment to cash out.
