Just thought I would share my little AOR. I didn't plan on doing one, but during the Dell camera deals, I applied for DPA so I figured I might as well apply for a few more...

Before the AOR

BOA/MBNA--------MC NY JETS $3,500
CHASE-------------V SONY $3,500
CITI-----------------MC DIV SELECT PLAT STUDENT $1,500
CITI-----------------V MTVu STUDENT $3,200
CITI-----------------AMEX DIAMOND PREFERRED REWARDS $8,100
-------
Total $19,800

The last activity I recall was applying for another Chase Sony card during the $150 offer (was denied).
My last three cards were issued March/April of 2006 for the NY JETS (Nano promo), the Sony ($100 credit)
, and the AMEX DIAMOND PREFERRED REWARDS (10k TY points, and 0%). Because of the 0% of the AMEX, I carried a balance just until the end or March when the promo ended.

I'm a full time student and I work full time, age 20, Junior at college, used solely my income for applications (above 40K, but below 50K).

Pre AOR Summary
Personal Credit $19,800
Age 20
FT Student & FT tech support
HHI $40k - $50k
Score unknown

Here is what I applied for, now with links!

CIT D3ll DPA $2,000 APPROVED Put in wrong year of birth and was deferred, next day was able to get approved on phone
WAMU V PLAT $3,500 APPROVED SCORES
WAMU V MyPoints DENIED DENIED 1000 Mypoints, should of applied for this card first, for the points
CITI V Drivers Edge - DEFERRED
CITI MC AT&T Universal Rewards - DEFERRED 6000 TY PT
CITI MC Professional TY - DEFERRED 15000 TY PT
CITI MC PrimierPass -ELITE - DEFERRED 15000 TY PT
CITI MC PrimierPass -BUS $12,000 APPROVED 15000 TY PT
CITI MC Business - DEFERRED 15000 TY PT
CHASE V SONY CARD - DEFERRED $100 credit
CHASE V Freedom - DEFERRED $250 credit
CHASE V Amazon - DEFERRED $30 Amazon
CAPONE V No hassle miles - DEF-DENIED No foreign exchange fees
HSBC MC Cash or Fly $10,500 APPROVED 0% for 6 months, no fees
AMEX AMEX GOLD Business ? APPROVED $100
AMEX AMEX GOLD Personal ? APPROVED $250
AMEX AMEX One ? APPROVED $50
JUNIPER V IFLY - DEFERRED $15 credit
BOA AMEX Rewards $1,000 APPROVED $50
FNB-Omaha V Rewars Advantage Plat $3900 DEF-APPROVED $50 GC
ADVANTA MC Advanta DENIED DENIED Equifax - insufficient history
HHB MC Platinum Select $2000 DEF-APPROVED 2% Cash Back
Discover D Miles ? DEF-Approved "Called me to do security check 4/30, says
I qualified for only the the standard Discover
card, by HSBC, mentioned a 0% BT for
10 months."
JUNIPER MC Barnes&Nobles - DEFERRED $25 BN GC
BOA V Signature with WorldPoints $1,000 DEF-Approved $50 credit

I'm surprised that the all 3 AMEX cards I applied for gave me an approval, not sure if I really got approved of if it's some fluke thing like their CLI... What I really wanted to do with this AOR was get as much of the sign on bonuses, especially the Thank You points because I want to take a trip to Asia soon. Many of the cards offered 0% for BT, but seems they are with their fees that make it much less worthwhile, so I'll probably collect my bonuses and close them as some of the cards (AMEX specifically) have annual fees.

Not sure if there is anything else I can apply for while I'm dinging up my credit score.

I wish I pulled my scores before the AOR, I finally got them post AOR after making a purchase from Staples.com and getting a $1 offer from PrivacyGuard.

Cards Received:
AMEX Gold Business

Other updates
Citi approved the PrimierPass, BUT I had to reallocate from my existing credit line (so I opted for $4000 from my Citi AMEX)
HSBC sent an email and let me know my limit is $10,500
Discover called for a security check this morning, they said I wasn't approved for the miles card, but was instead getting the Discover standard card. They mentioned a 0% BT on the phone, no mention of the limit on this.

Update 5/2
Logged into my BOA account and saw that I had the Visa Signature card that I thought I was denied for ($1000 line), forgot to even add it to my applied list.
Got an email saying that my Household bank (2%) had been approved.
Saw the BN card with $25 GC, so I applied for that too, was deferred.
Learned, the next time I do AOR, I need to track my applications as I apply for them. I tired to print most of the stuff to PDFs for review, but I definitely missed some stuff, like the Visa Signature card I applied for.

A run down of the numbers:

25 Cards applied for

Thanks for sharing. That's a lot of deferred applications. If you can update your post with the following, it would be much appreciated:

Is there any reason why you didn't use household income?
Do you know what your credit score was?
How old is your oldest card?
Do you have student loans?
Did you have any cards with high utilization at the time of application?

Anything else besides "insufficient history" you suspect might be the reason for all the deferrals?

Thanks!

I didn't use the household income because my parents make less than what I do and I don't live with them now.

I was to cheap to pay for me score before the AOR, but I did get the WAMU card, so I'll have that for next time .

My oldest cards are the Citi Student cards, there are from August, September 2005. These have always been paid on time, though just recently I somehow forgot to pay an $18 balance (I usually pay before the statement date on my dividend select because I have credit protector for the gift certificates). It was due on Apr 24 and I just noticed on Apr 26, so I paid immediately. Another reason for doing the AOR now, but Citi tells me the card won't be reported delinquent if less than 30 days past due.

I have no student loans.

Overall, utilization is low. The NY Jets card was probably the highest at about 60% (from billpay).

Since I didn't do a credit report before the AOR, I'm not sure if it shows that my Citi AMEX is paid off our not. If it hasn't updated yet, then it does show a high utilization of about 90% of the $8100 credit line, which maybe suspect to some issuers.
I've been at my current address for only a little over a year, my current job I've been at for two years. I'm not sure how significantly those will play into the process, but one of the apps did want to know my previous employer because I was at the current one for less than three years.

I'll definitely update with the results as I get them.

I think your instinct to go for signup bonuses was a good one. If you get a 0% approval, but with a crappy CL, make sure to do the math for how much the fee would be for your transfer, and how much the estimated return of investing it would be. This is where combining balances from various cards may come in really handy.

Since you have a couple of BoA cards you can open a checking account with them for a $100 bonus. They do a hard pull so it's a good one for after an AOR. Citibank probably has a checking promotion too, another hard puller.

Wow, $10,500 on a HSBC card? That might be some sort of modern day record.

It's also interesting that Discover was discriminating between their Miles card and their regular More/Platinum card. I would have thought they were pretty much the same.

Yea, I thought the HSBC limit was weird since I hear that everyone else seems to have some really stingy credit lines with them. And it wasn't to long ago that they were denying me overdraft protection on my checking account. The only reason I can think of them providing such a large line is that I have a decent sized savings account there.

Anyone else have this experience with HSBC?

Depends which HSBC card is thru, I know my HSBC Direct Merchants had nothing to do with HSBC bank, They are one of the crappy card issuers HSBC bought, I did get $25k on mine. Then I got an HSBC Premier that came along with my HSBC Premier savings account. I wanted to close and reallocate the Direct Merchants CL but could not transfer between the 2. So closed Direct and Premier was great and increased my line by that $25k to $60k. So I guess it all depends which HSBC division your card is issued from

That's encouraging, there are some hints that "regular" HSBC cards are the "prime" cards for the family, while the Orchard, Household, and Direct Merchants brands are more "less-than-prime". Although I'm pretty sure I've seen people get stingy limits on their straight HSBC cards as well.

Hey wait, how did you get the app for the mythical 2% Household bank card?

Mail invite, I've been getting A LOT of credit card solicitations from HSBC, like 2 offers in the mail a day. Don't know what the limit is on this Household bank, but I expect it to be low like 3 digits.

Just made an update to the original post with links to the applications, thought this would help, since that's how I found new cards to apply for. Many of them stolen from Unbelieevable's AOR. I also made some summaries and bolded them for easier reading.

I got a $3900 limit on the FNB card and $2000 on the HHB, I guess HSBC feels very generous with their credit to me . I signed onto the wamu site and my credit score/report info won't show for another 2-4 weeks . I'm still a bit bummed about getting denied on a cap one card, but I suppose I'll just have to use one of the other cards for my trip and pay 1%.

I'll get a copy of my Equifax report if wamu doesn't update soon to see how "insufficient" my history is with them.

alert mods

Making an update after receiving decisions on all applied cards. I think I'll revisit in 6months or a year to see where my credit is then (I'll be graduating then to, so I'll probably refrain from doing another AOR as employers now pull credit reports :/)

Please consider adding your data to the AOR stats thread. It's helpful to have a wide range of data, from student to retiree!
