This is horrible, and I wonder if anyone has fallen for this:

First Premier Bank:

9.9% APR, 19.9% APR for Cash Advances, 19.9% default APR

Account setup fee: $29 once
Program fee: $95 once
Annual Fee: $48 annually
Participation Fee: $72 annually
Additional card: $20 per card annually.
Credit Limit Increase: $25 per increase
Internet Access Fee: $3.95 (wtf is this?)
Wire Transfer Fee: $5.00 (again, wtf?)

Minimum credit granted: $250

Credit left after being reamed: $72.

Sure do everyday. A few years ago I did telemarketing for Providian and the card had 210$ in fees and limits that started at 250$ I sold I pile of them my first day felt so guilty I quit and found another job.

Why feel guilty? The people that are targeted for these cards probably stole way more than $210 from the CC companies. They deserve to get reamed.

First Premier gave me and my wife $25 each for signing up for Obopay, and gave me another $5 for recommending that they give my wife the free money.

Hehe. Diablo, I just got the same offer in the mail the other day. It was good for a laugh with my roommates. Unless mine was slightly different, I think you even missed a couple of fees, though! Mine said something about a $7 fee for an internet or phone payment and some other payment method they have for $11. I guess you can only "pay for free" by mailing a check. Ridiculous!

these cards do have a purpose, rebuilding credit. i have seen many that dont offer an apr lower than 20%+ i would never even pay an ann fee for a card but many people here can justify it.

That was my point. People who can only qualify for a card like this have probably defaulted on obligations greater than $210 (hence "stealing" more than $210... if you borrow money and don't pay it back, thats stealing). Therefore, even if they have to pay $210 to start rebuilding their credit, its not like they're really out anything in the end, are they?

Of course, one would hope that they have the sense to cancel this card and move on to better ones with lower/no fees once they've built up their FICO a bit.

I am always amused when people redefine words to suit their own opinions. Like calling defaulting on an obligation 'stealing'. Absolute claptrap.

I concur.

CreditOne Bank (who's name sounds dangerously close to CapitalOne)

APR: 23.90%
One time membership fee: $69
Annual fee: $69
Cash Advance Fee: $5 or 3%, whichever is higher
Closed Account Maintenance Fee: $3 per month until account is paid in full

Not as bad as First Premier (the one I started the thread with) but jeez.

Edit: I take that back. the BBB totally rips them a new one...

BBB said:The Wisconsin BBB has received 10 complaints in less than a week against Credit One Financial, an online loan company. These complaints allege that Credit One Financial approved a loan for the applicants, but required a "collateral payment" of $700 to $900 be wired to a Canadian address via MoneyGram. Once the money was wired, as instructed, the applicants were contacted again and asked to wire more money because of a variety of reasons, such as their applications had expired or their credit scores were too low. None of the complainants have received their loans.

Tribute Bank:

APR: 19.50%
Cash Advance APR: 22.50%
Default APR: 25.50%
Default APR for Cash Advances: 28.50%
Annual Fee: $119.40
Fee for cash advances: 5% or $5 whichever is higher

You'd think after the first 10 of these they've sent I wouldn't be interested, but hey, more food for my hungry paper shredder.

Yikes! Those are some snazzy rates! Plus, from the FAQ:

Are there fees associated with a Certificate of Deposit?
Yes. As with most banks, fees may be charged for servicing your account. Please refer to the Deposit Product Rules and Regulations for full fee disclosures, which can be obtained by downloading the New Account Form or by calling (302) 656-SAVE.
