bad news:

My new Advanta card has a limit of $2.5K. I knew that was a risk with closing and reapplying - my closed card had a limit of 17K. Oops.

good news:

Wife received her new Chase biz card with a limit of $20K. I'm kinda shocked, given she just paid off a biz card with a limit of $65K. Time to reallocate and enjoy lots of Chase's free money for 15 months.

Started the rinse and repeat with Barclays. Called the credit dept to consolidate $43K BankAtlantic into SeaMiles. I was transferred to a "business credit analyst" who took my request. He said anything above $25K would have to be reviewed by a manager. I didn't see any changes this morning, so I called again. A few hours later, my my BankATL appears closed, and my SeaMiles card is sporting a new CL of $43K. (Hey, I lost $500 of CL in the transition. I'm outraged! )

How long should I wait to reapply for BankATL? Any reason to wait more than a day or 2?

Thanks to jackcrawfish, Glitch99, DjPill for showing us biz->personal reallocs are possible with Barclays.

I waited a week. But I applied for something different to look like I wasn't a gamer. Had Bank Atlantic, applied for Juniper Biz. Yeah I lose two months of BT but since you are doing rolling thunder it shouldn't matter.

Would you mind sharing how much revolving debt you are showing on your personal CR that you plan on applying with and how many TU inquiries?

I am being very conservative these days. 16K (showing) on personal, 0 TU inqs.

Applied this morning for a new BankATL. As expected, the app was declined citing "Sufficient credit with Barclays." Called the credit department and was immediately transferred to a business credit analyst. Dude's looking at my file and says, "I think we spoke last week to transfer credit to your personal card." Why yes, yes we did. Told him I realized I wanted a new business card. He offered to open the new BankATL card by reallocating from SeaMiles. Left $2K on SeaMiles to create a new $41K BankATL card. So easy.

regarding your puny Advanta credit line, how long ago did you close your 17k Advanta line - a week before your puny line card? While I realize EugeneV and others have confirmed a second card is not an option with Advanta, would you be willing to try the back door approach as I did with Wells Fargo? Wells policy was "usually one card per SSN." With them, I was able to reopen the old card and consolidate to the new card.

LOL! I had a plausible reason prepared for wanting a new business card. Had I not expected to be questioned, you can be certain stammering would have ensued.

That's an excellent idea. Why the hell not give it a shot? I did try (unsuccessfully) a CLI on the new Advanta, but it was denied because the card was new. What I really need to do is get access to an undwerwriter/analyst at Advanta. Haven't found a way to do that.

Depending on your level of interest, from here the following Advanta contact numbers (non vanilla customer service type):

Application Phone Number: 800-780-3945
Corporate Phone Number: 215-657-4000 (direct to admin assistant)

also (800) 327-5998 and

BankATL is denying my second 20K BT. They are telling me 20K is the limit per account, not per transfer. Completely different story from what I heard from them yesterday and others have reported. Wait a day or 2 and try again with another CSR?

alert mods

Definitely try again. Unless it's a very new policy, that sounds like BS.

my thoughts exactly. i was going to ask for a manager, but the front line rep had already confirmed the "policy" with her supervisor. i'll call again tomorrow.

Called again and had no problems requesting the 2nd BT. Hit my BofA billpay card 2 business days later. I'm wondering if the first BT request was still in process when I was denied for the the 2nd BT.
