actually, i've been told they WILL move from personal to business, but not the other way around!!

I had no problem re-allocating from Citi Diamond to Citi PP Elite, however the 0% offer on the PP Elite was a non-capped fee. Maybe that may have something to do with it?

lhendricks92 said: The last CSR I talked seemed to have a screen which would tell him which reallocations were possible.
Any Citi reps on FWF wanna hook us up with a screenshot? Pretty please?

I just moved $16000 from an AT&T Universal Card to my CitiBusiness Platinum Select that has a 12 month, 0% no fee BT offer. The CSR also told me she had a screen that told her which cards she could allocate from. Thank you to lhendricks92 for the suggestion to call Citi Business instead of Personal - it was the easiest CSR interaction I've had in months.

Was able to move $41.5K from Platinum Select to my new Driver's Edge with 12mo 0% promo. They called to tell me that they couldn't give me a CL over $500 for the new Driver's Edge because I had reached my max exposure with them based on my income. I asked if I could use my existing $42K line to add to it and she said no problem. No 24hrs required, she swapped the CLs right then and there.

That might be a special case because you were getting the reallocation done at the same time as acceptance.

Convenient!

Yeah, I thought something like that might be possible; I intend to get a Driver's Edge at an appropriate time in the hope that because my CL with Citi is about as high as it will go, they will have to do a reallocation in order to give me the card.

I have another thought. How much CL Citi will give you on a new card is based in part on how much total CL Citi will give you, well, a reallocation reduces your CL on one card so that the total CL you qualify for has enough for what you want on the new card.

Who says you need to do that as a reallocation? If they get really obnoxious about this, why not close the card where you have finished the BT? Then a month later, go on and apply for the new card. Or if you have a new card with a 0% BT, just cancel some other card, or call them up and cut the CL. Then, a bit later, apply for a CLI with the new card.

For a 1 year old credit card which I want to the credit line out, what difference does it make to my credit score/history between relocation and consolidation?

badguy said: For a 1 year old credit card which I want to the credit line out, what difference does it make to my credit score/history between relocation and consolidation?

Well, you risk the ire of FW posters if you close the card. Just remember, closed cards stay on your report for 7 years, and even though they are closed they will continue to be calculated for the average age, AFAIK.

However, I have 40k CL on a Citi Diamond, and they will let me reallocate it to a PP Elite 0% (probably because the BT fee is uncapped) and then I'll poly just close it, once I get the 25k PP Elite signup bonus

Just to update: My reallocation from my AT&T Universal to my CitiBusiness is now showing up online, two days after I requested it. Time to go request a check.

Citi Dividend (old card) to Citi Professional (0%, no fee) worked perfectly. I called the Citi Professional phone number yesterday. Transfer is reflected online today. I'm happy. On the other hand, Citi Dividend (old card) to AT&T (0%, no fee) did not work when I called on Saturday. I got the 24 hours response.

I applied for the latest 0% balance transfer from citi, and got a small credit line and a letter explaining that I will have to consolidate lines of credit in order to get more on the new card (I have three, total credit limit over $30k, I was expecting this).

I called the CSR, and was told that due to the 0% balance transfer, they cannot reallocate any line of credit to the card. They also said I could not consolidate credit; they could close my older card, but NOT move it's credit to the 0% card. So I say I want to close my new account.

I get referred to another CSR who said "I don't see why we can't do that" So it looks like they are trying to clamp down on 0% balance transfers, but they need to get their policies in order. The letter and CSR contradict, that's no good.

Shady, shady CSR's. Glad you called them out and got some helpful information.

So, now we have established that moving CL from personal/business to business is possible.

I think being able to move CL from personal to business is a good deal, because:
1. Max CL for personal depends on your HHI. Moving some of your personal CL to Biz gives you room to request more CLIs in the future.
2. High utilization on Biz doesn't hurt credit score.

The only downside I can think of is it reduces your total CL, thus increasing % utilization. I consider this a worthwhile tradeoff.

Couldn't reallocate from Diamond AMEX to CitiBusiness PP. Converted Diamond AMEX to Dividend MC and successfully reallocated to CitiBusiness PP. Supervisor explained that Citi "AMEX" cards do not allow reallocation.

That 2nd "CSR" was likely a retention rep. They have authority to "save" customers from closing accts more often than not by having ability to do things regular CSRs can't.

To add to the din, for one more data point...

Here's my story - and the short version is Be Careful.

I have a Dividend Platinum card and an ATT Universal Card (and others from Citi - but not relevant to this discussion). My Div Platinum card is one of my oldest cards - about 8 yrs now, and the ATT card was part of my AOR last fall. My 0% BT offer on the ATT card (use within 12 months for a total of 12 months - usual citi deal from the good old days) has to be used by the end of july, so I went for it and tried to move some of my credit line from the Div Platinum card (14.6k CL - basically never use it anymore since they changed their rebates - but no good 0% offers either) to the ATT card.

I called and spoke to one of the call center CSRs, explained explicitly that I wanted to move 8.5k from the Div Platinum card to the ATT Universal Card (to make my CL on the ATT card 13k, leaving 6.1k on the Div Platinum card). He said this would be no problem (to my surprise), put me on hold, then returned to announce that he had I now had a CL of 19.1k on my ATT universal card. I said "What? - that isn't what I asked for!" He also then informed that this had closed my Div Platinum card (my oldest CC and one of my bigger CLs). Of course, I explained my extreme displeasure and he admitted his mistake, put me on hold for 20 minutes to check with a supervisor about what to do, then hung up on me.

I called back, spoke to another CSR - at which point I requested a supervisor after explaining the situation - she then told me I didn't need a supervisor and the account closure would be reversed in 24 hours and that I should call back to confirm. Well today, I did so, and went straight to a supervisor who admitted my CSR had made a serious mistake (well beyond their authority given my request), and then informed me that the 2nd CSR I had spoken to was wrong and that it would take at least 7-14 days to reverse the process and rebuild my accounts. We'll see if it actually happens. She also stated that there was 'no way' the credit line reallocation I requested could have been done the way I requested because I have a 0% no fee offer on the ATT card (not news to anyone reading this thread - but I figured the few successes in this thread at least warranted the attempt) and reallocations without closure of other lines cannot be done when allocating to a 0% no fee BT card. I don't post often, but felt I should in this case to illustrate a few lessons.

1.) Be Careful - this is 2% my fault and 98% theirs - anytime you play with your credit lines there is risk, but the CSRs at Citi are really bad (again no news here)and this was especially egregious.

2.) You might get lucky and pull off a reallocation, or you might end up in my situation - and as such, if you are going to move lines around, don't try to move a portion of a CL from a card that you don't want closed (for FICO score reasons or some other reason you may have).

3.) As reported previously, you can close and reallocate to another card with ease - and take the FICO hit. The supervisors know that it is Citi policy not to reallocate lines to 0% no BT fee cards (or anything under 2.9% - no BT fee) - as such trying your luck with an (idiot CSR) is probably a waste of time - retention reps may or may not be a different story.

Ha, interesting.

I just moved a portion of my Citibiz PP's credit line to my CitiBiz card. I got both of them recently both with 0% and NO Fee.

I called saturday evening, and the credit line changes have showed up online now.

dhl said: Updates:
1. Denied moving credit line of CitiBusiness MC 0% No Fee to CitiBusiness PremierPass 0% No Fee.
2. Approved reallocating credit line from PremierPass Elite 3.99% $75 Fee to CitiDividend MC 0% 3% No Max Fee.

This was through the standard CSR (not retention).

Closed and combined a Platinum Select to a Drivers Edge Options with a 0% BT a few days ago. Change was reflected online less than an hour later.

Took me 4 phone calls and about 10 days to move 10K from Dividend to Professional. The request was not done right in their system on the first call. The 2nd call the CSR just said they were behind and asked to call back in 2 more days. The 3rd call talked to Supervisor who apologized profusedly and promised it would be done by evening. Told me to check back after 9pm and if not done, give them a call. Of course it was not done when I looked it up at 10:30pm. Called and talked to the night supervisor. He apologized with an attitude, but did promise I would see the re-allocation the next morning. This time it finally happened.

As for closing account by error on their side, it happened on me once last March. The minute the CSR did it he knew it as the conversation suddenly stopped for a minute or 2. I on the other hand, saw what went wrong as I was logged in at the time. Once an account is closed, there is nothing the frontline CSR can do but to put in a request to another dept which then do the reversal to put it back to original state. It took exactly a week for them to fix the mistake.

Actually, turns out my new CC was closed by mistake, and was told the same thing; 2-3 business days to get it reversed. It's been that long and it's still closed, so I'll wait a few more days per data in this thread.

Citi denied credit reallocation from one card to another even when both cards had 0% offers on them. But to my great surprise, they approved a credit limit increase on the target card in the amount of the requested reallocation when I asked for it.

Did they do a hard pull? Did you recently get these new Citi cards? Thanks.

Did a reallocation for my wife’s account (Drivers Edge to Home Rebate) but they closed the wrong card after asking twice to verify which account was to be closed. It still has not been fixed following a few calls; said it takes 3-5 days. It has been a big hassle since I need to get my wife on the phone with me each time I call.

I asked for an increase in credit line without a hard pull, but I suspect that the rep did not understand what I was talking about. So I might have gotten one.

No, I have had both accounts for more than 7 years.

requested a reallocation from my dividend to a non 0bt simplicity card and get denied . Reason: I have to leave at least 2000 cl in the dividend card. Is this a new policy? I thought the min is $500

I requested reallocation from Citi Platinum Master/and Visa to new Citi Professional card (0% transfer, no fee.) Was told to wait 42 hours, 3 hours later, logged in online and saw new credit line
whow who hwo!

Did you get upgraded to the new World Mastercard? If so the World Cards ahve different minimum requirements. Usually 2,000

I just successfully closed and consolidated 2 Citi Business cards (PremierPass and Platinum Select) into a 3rd Business card (Platinum Select TY w/ 0% offer). The lines were moved over with no problem. I had to call a few times until I got someone who knew what they were doing. The key was to talk to a supervisor. Called Friday evening and it was done the next day.

wow so you can move credit line from business to personal without a problem? I thought policy was always either personal to personal or business to business

So you have two 0% offers on 7 year old cards?

Just called to consolidate my simplicity card to professional card. The rep I got by calling simplicity card is speaking English that I can hardly understand, and told me that he can't process it after a long 10 minutes wait. Didn't want to give up. Called professional card number, got a nice lady, saying it is ok to transfer partial CL from personal to business/professional, but can't close down the card. So, transfered everything but leaving a $1000 CL on simplicity card, and moved everything to professional. Changes showed up in less than an hour. Will call tomorrow to close down simplicity card.

Topgear said: lippyroa said: Anyone with any luck on reallocation between Citi (personal cards), please share the "trick".

Ask to speak to someone in retention, thats the only way I was able to get it done.

I also now have a check in my hands from citibank for almost $24,000.
Just curious, once you got the reallocation done, how did you go about getting that check? Did you ask the same person at retention for it at the time you requested the realoc? Or did you use the web portal to request a check *after* the realloc showed up on your account?

thanks

wasnt able to transfer my div card to my exxon mc......so i just transfered the div limit to another div card and closed the one. really sucks for citi cuz my exxon has a 3% bt promo rate, and i wanted to transfer some more credit so i can do a large bt(no, never tried a credit limit increase, saving inq for an apporoma coming next month). oh well, advanta just got my money from a 12k bt.

do companies not know, we have other offers??

No inquiry if you use the online CLI and they make an offer. If they send you to fill out the form there will be if you submit it.

I think I heard some new excuses today when I talked to four different citibank CSRs:

1) Could not transfer from PremierPass Elite (personal) to CitiBusiness, becasue the PPE is a "no preset spending limit" card, and credit cannot be reallocated from those.

2) Could not transfer from CitiProfessional (semipersonal) to CitiBusiness, because the CitiProfessional is on a different "platform".

I heard each of these from two different CSRs... but it still needs a big grain of salt, since I was able to request a third CSR to put in a request for CitiProfessional -> CitiBusiness (although it probably won't work).

I just consolidated 2 citi personal cards to another personal card with 0% no fee until the end of year....I frankly am going to continue to consolidate, but keep the 1-2 oldest citi cards open for history and apply for new cards as needed...

RagingBull said: wow so you can move credit line from business to personal without a problem? I thought policy was always either personal to personal or business to business

If this is in response to my post, I should have been a little clearer that the 3rd target card was a Bus card as well. I will update it.

Also, I think a good sign is if the rep asks you to hold on for about 5-10 minutes as opposed to just saying they put in a request that'll be done in 2-3 days.

maddybeagle said: I just consolidated 2 citi personal cards to another personal card with 0% no fee until the end of year....I frankly am going to continue to consolidate, but keep the 1-2 oldest citi cards open for history and apply for new cards as needed...

Isn't that the obvious way around this issue? Why are people having such an issue with this situation if all you have to do is cancel your newest card and have them move that limit to a new 0% offer?

Here is my interesting experience:

7.29 called Dividend number. Surpised by a CSR who agreed to move 4k from divi to pro. said might take 24 hrs.
7.31 did not show up online. Call again. It did not go through. Get denied. Appologized. Even no consolidation.
8.02 Call pro number twice. Denied. Either move or consolidate. Call divi number. Denied. Then I disappointed and logged online. It shows up! 4k moved. divi to pro!

Good luck everyone! Seems Sunday night is good timing!
