Thisguy's 2-part AOR - Part 2 - Planning Kickoff 10/15/07

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the first round of apps in my wife's name. I completed them this morning 35 apps in about 3.5 hours. She did one by phone. Most were deferred for now with a few acceptances. I am going to update the post with the results and will continue to update as more info comes in. Some of my links needed to be updated so I will try to do that as well. So far approvals have resulted in pretty good credit lines so I am hoping this will be very successful. Can't wait to start on round two.

In order to keep the current organization by issuer, I will be putting a number in front of each card to denote the order in which I applied for them and I will fill in results under each entry.

Some stats:
Business Applications Submitted: 16
Total Applications Submitted: 34
Instant Business Approvals: 1
Total Instant Approvals: 5
Total Business Approvals: 14/16 (Final)
Total Approvals: 28 / 34 (Final)
Total Instant Business Approval Lines: $10K
Total Instant Approval Lines: $85K
Total New Business Lines: $284.7K+
Total New Lines: $535.7K+

Running Total of all available lines: $706,770
+ mine currently ($315.7) ==> $1,022,470 Household

Thanks again!

Original Post with Updates (7/5/07):

Hi all,

I am getting ready to kick of a two staged AOR

Round one: My Wife

Round two: Me

This is basically our second big AOR. Our first big one was a year and some months ago and then we did a mini-AOR about 8 months or so ago to re-up.

Our goal is to get more 0% money to replace the money we’ve had to pay back as the previous offers expired and pick up some bonuses along the way where possible.

We are trying to hit up as many as possible while staying within the maximum number of applications per lender.

I would love feedback on the plan and or any great offers that I may have overlooked. My wife will be applying first since I have paid off most of her balances and then with the new cash infusion we will pay down some of mine to make my credit profile juicy and attractive. I will focus first on my wife’s scenario.

HHI: $140K
AGE: early 30s
School loan (wife’s name only) $55K
Credit Scores (TU(inquiries) / EXP(inquiries) / EQ(inquiries)) : 779(1) / 767(3) /759(13) (6/11/07)
See below for credit score impact and resulting inquiries

We do have a mortgage but it is in my name only

I’ve put a lot of work and research into this so far but now I am hoping for feedback on the proposal. I’m sure you guys and gals have some great ideas, other don’t miss deals, or thoughts that will help this be a successful AOR. I will be travelling for the next couple of days so I will update / respond in about a week. I am looking to launch this AOR as soon as the credit report shows the current balances with <50% utilization.

Thanks in advance for your help!!
Thisguy

UPDATE: Part 2 now Underway. Check it out here:
Thisguy's 2-part AOR - Part 2 - Planning Kickoff 10/15/07

The Haul:
the pretax gross here should be about: ~$20K @ 5%/year simple interest or if you prefer ~$19K @ 4.75

these numbers are very ball park so please let's not worry about them or look into the formula. Precision beyond this ballpark is really somewhat irrelevent. I also figure that using a year isn't really accurate since you have transit times and diminishing balances to make payments. The short of it though is it's a boat-load of bonus cash.

We should also include bonuses:
30K TY Points with Citi
15K SPG points
30K HHonors points
15K Delta Miles
20K AA Miles
5K UsAir miles
40K Marriott Miles
5K Cap One Miles
10K National City Points
$25 ESPN Gift card
2 free nights Marriott <= cat 4 hotel
$250 statement credit BoA Business

Now if I can replicate this with my follow-up AOR coming next we could be looking at a nice $30-$45K bonus in income this year. Now that's a spicy meatball!!

More details on BTs and line reallocations when I can.
Details on BTs below. I will skip all of the details aboput reallocations because it's too much trouble to document and I'm not sure there is much to be gained. I will try to go back through and document any challenges experienced in reallocation but I may not get to that tonight.

Final BT Details:
AMEX in Chicago --> $35,000/$50,000 -->70%
USAA AMEX --> $42,000/$60,000 --> 70%
Citi Bus PP --> $33,000/$33,500 --> 98.51%
Chase Business --> $85,000/$86,000 --> 98.84%
Discover Miles --> $55,00/$8,000 --> 68.75%
Discover Bus --> $4,000/$6,000 --> 66.67%
Principal --> $10,000/$15,000 --> 66.67%

Bank Atlantic Bus --> $38,000/$40,000 --> 95%
Nat City Personal --> $13,600/$14,000 --> 97%
Nat City Business --> $34,000/$35,000 --> 97%
M&T Business --> $9,500/$10,000 --> 95%
RBS Kroger --> $4,800/$7,000 --> 68.57%
BoA Visa Plat --> $26,500/$30,000 --> 88.33%
BoA NEA --> $11,500/$17,000 --> 67.65
BoA Rewards Bus --> $24,000/$25,000/$50,000 --> 96%/48% (individual card has only $25K limit but bus account has $50K limit this due to consolidating another BoA business account. I was unaware that you have to specifically request the entire line be available to a card on the business account. In this case there is only one card on the account so it is silly that it is on not available but that's how it goes. I requested full line availability but have heard nothing back and it still doesn't show available. Had I known this would happen I would have left the other account open since I was able to open a citi saving account with no fee or interest charger to date. I lost out on about $24K in BT money here.

Total Fees(These will accrue interest) = $510

Personal New BT Total $175,200
Business New BT Total $227,500
New BT Grand Total $402,700
With Existing $423,400 (WOR only - Hoping to double with Part-2)

Overall consumption including other non-BT accounts
Personal ~49% (this number is public and pleasantly < 50%)
Business ~74%
Total ~60%

THISGUY'S EXPERIENCE ON EXTRACTING MONEY

There are a number of methods I use to get money though most often I request to "Pay a bank loan." Then I give them my money market account number and the address and phone number for HSBC BANK USA NA where I would send deposits. This is not flawless but I have had very high success rate with HSBC. I also like to use HSBC as a hub because I can link lots of other accounts and move money easily to other places from there. I know HSBC has a long holding period for transfers and there are lots of opinions about banks and accounts but I have been successful with them so I stick with it as a starting point.

Here is some other info I have gleened.

USAA AMEX to HSBC --> Good
AMEX In Chicago to HSBC savings --> still processing
Discover to HSBC --> NO GOOD - transferred to a real card instead
Nat City to HSBC --> Good
Barclay's Nat Park to HSBC --> Good
M&T Business to HSBC --> Good
WAMU to HSBC --> NO GOOD (this did not go through and I had to resubmit it with a request to go to a real CC account)

BoA - does direct deposit to checking or savings on request

Bank Atlantic Business - would only do a real credit card account (overpaid citi account and requested credit balance refund through citi online. Also required that any transfer be $20K or less so I had to break the limit in half to transfer the full amount. I wrote customer service and they waived one of the transfer fees without any issue)

BoA Platinum Business 0% purchases - Opened a Citi savings account and so far no fee or interest charges did $24K of $25K limit

Chase Business - used check included with card and verified that it was ok to write to an individual (always confirm that this will not be treated as a cash advance) They said as long as it was not made out to "CASH" no problem but the treatment varies by check so always call and always get a confirmation number or associate badge/name

Kroger - used check included with car after verifying terms see above

Others I transferred to CC account initially so I don't know if they would have worked against my personal loan

Your list looks pretty extensive. I cannot think of any other off the top of my head. Just make sure you apply for the ones you want most first becuase that will be a lot of inquiries and you will get turned down likely for many of your end appications. Just a heads up, I got an instant approval for a 12k principal bank card, when I called to activate it, they had closed my account becuase they got a report of many inquiries AFTER they approved me. So I never got to do the BT and they refused to reopen the card after a lot of yelling and screaming. FBNO is also problematic with inquiries and closing accounts after approving them.

alert mods

I'd stay away from State Farm. If you search you'll find that they have a tendency to pull all 3 bureaus and still not approve you. Doubtful you'll get it any way given how far down in your list it is. Other than that, it all seems very well planned, but very ambitious. Good luck.

alert mods

You do realize that both the AMEX Simply Cash Bus and Discover Bus cards you've linked to have 0% only on purchases, not BTs - right?

You might add the Bank Atlantic Business card (0% BT for 15 months, $75 max BT fee) issued by Juniper/Barclays. (Props to kkerty89.)

alert mods

I've been told that not only can you not have two HSBC applications at the same time, you cannot even have two open HSBC credit cards at the same time.

I don't know if this is true, however, I was turned down for my second card that I applied for a year after my first HSBC card.

So I would apply for your favorite card first in case you only get one.

alert mods

Also, use this Link to get 25k bonus points instead of normal 15k for PP Elite (I think there is a fee however for BT)

Don't forget BofA business. Yes, they will charge you a BT fee (even though the promo page claims no fee for balance transfers), but several of us have been able to get the fee reversed. Totally worth the risk for a business card with a potentially high limit.

As far as WaMu, I would suggest asking for a BT with the application. Could explain the difference between a 7k limit (me, no BT requested) and a 30K limit (kkerty89, 30K BT requested).

good luck!

Good call on keeping your and your wife's creddit reports seperate. It will make some gaming possible.

State Farm, Pulaski, and Principal Bank have all had scattered reports of being finicky about things. Rejections, or adverse action, or even a rescinded acceptance. Just a heads up.

As mentioned, the Simply Cash is 0% on purchases only.

The important question is the current debt that you're carrying, is it REAL debt (from spending more than income) or is it just leftover from previous 0% gaming?

Where have you seen reports of AOR-unfriendliness for Principal? I must have missed that.

One recent AORer had their Principal Bank approval rescinded after the rest of their AOR activity was detected.

See MikeR397's post above or his recent AOR.

No language of waiving the fee for the first year. Do you know if this is prorated?

as far as principal bank, i think my datapoint might be more relevant for OP. No adverse action from Principal (knock on wood).

as far as MikeR397's experience, it think cardjuggler's comment is probably right:

MikeR397 said:my Principal Bank Low Rate card that was approved for 12k (my second largest line) on the 4th was cancelled today b/c of excessive inquiries.
You did way too many apps for a first AOR with limited credit history.

34 apps is a lot.

Yep, I admit I got carried away with apps for my first AoR, but I was having too much fun! The only real adverse action I have experienced was Principal Banks closing of my account after approval of 12k. Otherwise, I was approved for 20 of 34 apps with a total CL of $127k (keeping in mind my primary user CL before this AoR was ONLY a pathetic 5.5k). Of my 14 denials, about 10 of them were for too many inquiries, and the rest were for insufficient credit history. You have much better history than I do and will likely be much more successful! Good luck!

When you get to the end of this its going to say something along the lines of fax in paystubs etc....

this one will take some time -- be prepared for this. I had this as card 7, I aborted because of this hassle. maybe aor 3.0

Some have reported success with downgrading to regular PP once their 25k points have posted. They got a prorated refund of the annual.

Mike, I meant no disrespect. You kicked arse in your inaugural AOR! Just wanted to point out Principal's adverse action may have been specific to your situation, which may not be relevant for the OP.

None taken, but thanks none-the-less. I agree my case with Principal seems to be an exception, but when I called them about the closure, they did say specifically "After approving your card for 12k, we received notice from the credit bureaus of excessive inquiries (I was told 16) which is why we closed and cannot reopen your card." I asked them if they did another hard pull after the original pull that day, and they said no, "we just received notice." This sounds like a little bs to me and I yelled (mostly for fun, not expecting any results) all the way through the credit department, to the customer service department, to the bank personell themselves. But, I suppose thier move is perfectly fair as my multiple apps just might send a bit of a desperation signal to the credit companies.

Looks like a great list. And you've got a nice CL to start with. You should be able to really get some good money to work with.
Can't wait for my round two 15 months from now. - lol
Good luck.
