stfs said: I tried two gas stations today and they both treated the card as credit so what stores/gas stations will treat the card as debit? If not, I'm going to go to various gas stations and get my next 7 debit card transactions in tomorrow! Some gas stations have options for credit or debit on their keypad. If you select debit, then it lets you to key in the PIN. Most gas stations in my area (Mass) only allow two consecutive transactions. For gas purchases with credit, it takes only a day for the actual charge to appear (and the pre-authorization to disappear). |

Just an FYI... My second SBoT check account is now accessible via their on-line banking. As I was told, no credit inquiry occurred Interestingly, the new account showed on the Payments (bill pay) screen a couple of days before the Accounts screen. So now I have a joint account and a single account. I'll thus have some flexibility in transferring my money from my FNBO joint account to the SBoT joint account, and still stay under the FDIC limit. Of course, with the upcoming Fed Reserve committee meeting on 9/18 and possible drop in interest rates, I'm considering taking out the FNBO money a few days earlier and putting it into a CD! |

I didn't see this posted earlier- but the hard pull they do is from Equifax. I opened the account today in the branch- everything went smoothly. Fingers crossed that they'll keep the 6% rate after the Fed meets here shortly. BTW- the community room looked tidy- no shenanigans going on in there- David Scuba Diver no where to be seen |

stfs said:DavidScubadiver said:Yes, either one qualifies as a purchase. Just use the card. Can't answer about the speed of things as I've never tried a debit transaction. You have a month to make the ten purchases so as long as you do it all in the first 20 days you shouldn't have a problem. Of course, they expect you to be paranoid and not to want to bother counting to precisely 10, and you will (they hope) get in the habit of using their card for all small purchases, and you will no doubt find it handy to do so to save you the hassle of counting every month for the remainder of your life). I'm stuck w/ credit transactions since my grocery stores and gas stations will not allow me to treat the card as a debit card?!. So how long will a credit transaction reflect on my account? Unfortunately, the debit card took more than 3 weeks to get to me. I got it yesterday and I have one week left for the 10 debit card transactions. I'm going out of my way to do $1+ gas station charges in order to ensure compliance.Just E-mail them and ask for a grace period for this month and they will do so since you just got the card. Usually the point of sale transactions show up the next day for me. |

Regarding the requirements, Michelle told me that since I opened it up today, I have a grace period until the 15th (when the statement closes). I don't know how long it will take before the debit card arrives, but I don't anticipate a problem getting the 10 transactions met. I have another rewards checking (albeit at 5%) that requires 15 transactions- I usually complete that within 10-15 days. BTW, Michelle asked me if I was going to blog my experience- so far it's been a ok. I looked over the paperwork last night and I feel confident with everything so far. Let's hope the 6% lasts........ |

And if you read my very first post, you will see that they gave me a second grace period as well, as I opened the account on the 9th and my grace period ended 2 weeks before my card arrived. So they extended it. Very friendly. |

Having transferred over most of my banking to them I hope its the case. |

It is simply one statement cycle of grace period for DBK (thus one can time the grace period by opening an account right after the closing date on the 25th), too complicated for BofT with a first three-day grace period and another grace period of a month? Opening DBK account is much shorter in time and (the pretty) debit card arrives within a week. Just kidding, David/mh83... I am trying to stir up David's weekend DBK/BofT fight with Scott |

Just kidding, David/mh83... I am trying to stir up David's weekend DBK/BofT fight with Scott The "complication" of two grace periods helps to keep the stupid people out of the bank. I'd be at davernsbank in a heartbeat if it wasn't hundred's of miles away requiring a branch visit! Though I do like having to make only 10 debit card transactions at SbOT, I want higher insurance limits. |
