Green for good first post fattykokoya. I looked at the T&C's and, similar to Citi BT's, you have up to 12 months to make your initial BT, and then 12 months from that point to pay it off. I'd suggest using this card for the first 3 months for the 5% on everything - then pay the balance in full - then initiate a BT.

Great post fattykokoya, and welcome to FW. I'm in the process of compiling a list of cards for a small-scale AOR (10-15 cards) for my wife and this will fit nicely, assuming I can figure out a way to spend 6k on the card, pay it off and then do the BT to get that full $300.

But how does this card factor into your Total Exposure with Citi? Anyone have experience with Key Bank?

Very interesting, I just applied for 5 citibank cards, wonder if I'd be considered maxed out from applying for the Key Bank card?

only one way to find out. Yep, I also just applied (for the mom) for 5 citi cards last week (2 personal, professional, and 2 business; all were instantly approved) and applied for this Key card last night. They don't appear to give instant approvals, so as of now the app status is deferred. I haven't searched yet, but does anyone know if Key allows CL consolidation or movement as she has an existing 20k line with key?

I noticed out of the 5 you still have 2 deferred, Any news on them yet? I am probably wrong but I just can't see why they would give you another. I might use this offer to test the waters for a second AoR. My strategy was to close and consolidate most cards. So right now I have only one CITI card, $72k CL by closing and reallocating my CITI Hilton to my Diamond Preferred rewards. 0 Balance on card but did use it for a good amount of spending up until recently to get the 2% rewards. So thinking I will apply for this card and depending on limit I will make my decision about the second AoR
They had this similar offer last year...applied and declined...but I have a lot of citibank cards...

I don't know why they'd give me that many cards either, but my last AOR netted four citibank cards (And five has been done by others) so it doesn't mean they won't do it.
Mike, those deferrals may be a sign that in about a week you'll get a letter from citibank saying you were denied for too many apps too quickly. I don't think they do insta-denials. Or, you know, you might get the card. Would be interested to find out what happens with yours, as I'm thinking of firing off an app in a week or two, just to see what happens.
I got this last year. Got it in November, so was able to max out the $300 in '06 and again in '07. My wife was turned down recently for a key credit card due to too many Citi cards.
Sounds like a great deal. I only wish I could qualify for a credit card instead of constantly being told I have too much debt (when I do) or too much available credit (when I pay the debt off). I'm in a catch 22 and think that I've basically maxed out on my credit. Its depressing as hell knowing I am leaving 0% money on the table.
does anyone know if they allow consolidation/reallocation with other citi CLs ?

Okay I applied for the key bank offer for platinum card and am severly peeved at this point. I called the number on link for application status and found out I was approved for a gold card with 5000 limit. Of course gold card does not have the bt offers or 5%rebate. I pulled my credit report to see wth happened and my fico still stands at 750. This was a BAIT AND SWITCH. I will definitely cancel the card the minute it arrives.

If you're going to cancel it, at least try to consolidate the credit line to another citi card!

I thought about doing that, but are you sure that its possible since its key bank and citi, and not just a citi product?

No one here seems to know - try it, and let us know how it goes. this would be very helpful to the community!

Received the key bank card today. I called customer service instead of activation number and asked it I was speaking to Citi. C.S. Rep said yes. I asked it I could close and move cl to another citi card. She said no, its two different departments. I told her then I needed to close card. She transferred me for closure. That rep. asked why I did not want card. I explained my creditworthiness and how I should have not gotten a gold card. He told me platinum and gold are just words, they don't mean anything
I told him platinum meant I got 5% rebate on purchases for 3 mos. and O% bts for a year. Gold meant I got nada. He told me he would just exchange my gold for a platinum, no problem. He said it would be in the mail. Go figure.

She got approved for another 10k Key line on this app after being approved for 5 of 5 citi cards (upromise, ATT, professional, buisness TY, premier pass). Did not ask to move the CL to citi, but did try to consolidate from our existing Key 20k line to this one. Answer was no b/c she is not the primary acct. holder on the 20k line, my dad is. I also applied for a new Key card with my dad, and if he gets approved, I'll consolidate to his line. If he doesn't get approved, I'll try to switch the primary user to my mom on the old card and then consolidate to her new line.
PS: Key can mail you a pre made out check just like Citi can for a BT. I recommend doing this right when you get the card so you get the BT check in 5-7 days as opposed to waiting a MONTH to get the stupid welcome package (if it ever comes).

Watch out! I got the Platinum card and noticed that the mailing did not mention the 5% rewards just the 0% balance transfer. I called in and CS said there was no 5%. I then called the Key site where the offer was still advertised. A Key rep joined me and verified my claim in a conference call back to CS. CS said someone would call me back in a few days to adjust this. Still waiting.
mountainview said: no limit cash back, but no cap on BT To me this seems better than the $300 Cash Back cap. I need to pay about $12k in college bills by Aug 15th so could get $600 just for that. Was planning on using my CITI 2% but they shut that card down last week for security issues and still waiting for new card. Anyone know how long it takes to get the card after applying would need it by the 15th
scott, Your college still allows CC for payments? Lucky son of a gun. Only things you can pay with CC here is parking passes and tickets, but those are all profit for them anyway. My friend said his undergrad allowed CC payment for tuition, but had a 3% fee attached.

Samething happened to me, I called Keybank 1-888-539-1234 and was told that not everyone would get the promotion offer and you could decline the card.

Well a week ago I faxed them the screen shot of the 5% offer. Finally, I got a return call today and they said my Platinum card would get the 5% rewards. It seems only fair to get the deal as advertised.

I called in on 1-800-950-5114 asked to speak to a manager. Told the manager I could document the advertised offer by fax. The only limitation in the ad was that the offer was good for only the Platinum card. I was sent the Platinum not the Gold or Silver. I think they just bunched all the cards up and gave out the lowest common denominator offer. The fax number given was 702-797-5084. Good Luck.
