Note This is a Charge Card and not a credit card. Free first year but $99 annual fee after first year unless you got a Citigold account.

Earn great rewards, access to VIP airport lounges, companion air tickets, and 15,000 bonus ThankYou Points after $300 in purchases. You will even earn 5 ThankYou Points for every dollar spent on purchases at supermarkets, drug stores and gas stations and 3 ThankYou Points on other purchases for 24 months from the date you become a cardmember. There’s no pre-set spending limit.

IMO this is pretty hot even if you pay the annual fee as it a nice way to get 5X TYP on EDS and 3X on all other purchases. Also comes with free Priority Pass membership just like Citi Chairman card. I have a felling thoses clubs are going to start to get very crowed.

Links to enroll into complimentary memberships:

Identity Monitor

PriorityPass For some reason, this link didn't work for me- I had to type the URL in directly. (Updated link to use https, so session cookies work on application form popup)

Entré

Annual Fees is now back to $0 for the first 12 months! (07/17/2008)

"The cost of your first 3 cardmember lounge visits waived (normally $24 per visit)"

So it's quite a bit different than the Chairman Card.

Still a good deal though.

Free annual membership in Priority PassTM, VIP airport lounge program (a $99 annual savings) and the cost of your first 3 cardmember lounge visits waived (normally $24 per visit) – initial enrollment required along with yearly renewal.

I think that means you get 3 free vists per year but I could be wrong. Sorry did not read all the fine print from the web page. But IMO the big draw of the card is 5X EDS TYP and 3X TYP on all purchases for 24 months.

LOL good point. I call up Citi PB CS rep to find out if the annual fee could be waived and was told the annual fee is waived for Citigold accounts holders. Gal told me because I have both Citigold and SB FMA I qualify for the fee waiver for this card. She said to be aware of the fact this card is a charge card and not a credit card. And if I was still interested in getting it? I said yes and gal said she would take care of ordering the card for me.

So I hope the gal I spoke too was thinking about the correct card as I asked for the card with 5X TYP in EDS and 3X for all other purchases. I told her I saw it on Citicards.com

The CSR gal you talked to is smoking dope. It's a regular credit card.

However, It does seem to be medium-hot. 5x points on everyday spending, and 3x points for the first TWO YEARS.

It appears the be the ghetto version of Priority Pass, where only the first 3 lounge visits are free. Still better than a hole in the head.

Plus, 15,000 TYP after spending $300, and fee-free for the first year.

I can imagine a lot of FWFers just getting this card to rack up a ton of TY points over a year or two, then canceling and repeating!

The limit of 75,000 TYP per year is what turns me off... That is just 25,000 in 3xpoint spending... Although, getting one for me and one for the wife bumps it to 1500 a year.

Also, the typ limit is calender year based, so i could do 25k before january, and another 25k after, and close the card paying no fees...

I didnt notice the 150,000 on the main page. If you follow the link to terms and conditions it states 75,000.

150k is a lot better. That would let you earn 300,000 before the annual fee is due, per card...

For us FWF'ers, the free identitymonitor makes this card a no-brainer; basically, it pays for the annual fee by itself since we'd monitor our credit anyway! This is especially great for the B*'ers.

Hmmm. I am averaging about 1 plane trip per month for the past 2 years...maybe this will be a nice card. $99 for lots of lounge access is always nice.

It's a no preset spending limit card - probably what the CSR meant by "charge card."

Good find, OP. Thanks.

that's not a charge card. could it be the csr is just "dumb"?
and "no preset spending limit" is a misleading term also. there is a preset limit. they just don't tell you what it is.

Dolmar, this is well done. For someone who is not a frequent flyer (3 or less flights per year), this type of access to airport lounges is effectively the same as the AMEX Platinum.

Could you clarify one thing for me? Did you call the general customer service number for the Citi Private Bank, or did you speak with someone in your local office? And can you confirm that the fee waiver was based merely on having CitiGold status? Or was it that you also have an account with Smith Barney? Thanks!

I called Citi PB CS the number printed on the back of my ATM card. I did not give the lady my account at first. I told I wanted to know if there was a way to get the annual fee wavied on Citi Platinum American Express Card. Gal put me on hold for a couple of minutes and came back said as long as you have atleast a Citigold account then the annual fee is waived. Note Lawyers Citigold account via PB do not have the same benifits that Balance qualified Citigold PB and Retail Citigold account have as Lawyers do not get fee waivers for American Airlines credit cards and debit cards nor PPE cards.

My mistake, you're right, busterbaxter. Can only pull your credit once a month.

Thanks, Dolmar. That's a super-helpful answer.

This is the official line, although you'd be surprised what the CSRs will give you, if you just ask nicely.
