Between 6% off EDP and about $100 for miles driven, I racked up quite a rewards balance in my first year. Used a little for auto maintenance, but still had $487.78 in rewards left at the end of the year. I'm buying a new car right now, so I'll be able to redeem the rest of it. In the meantime, I got a new CDE card so I can get a second year of 6%. I took advantage of a 12 month no-fee 0% APR B/T offer on the first card right before the year was up, so that card isn't completely in disuse. New 6% purchases and auto repair go on the new card, so I'm building up a balance there. I think it's just an outstanding program; I can't figure out why it doesn't get more mention. I guess the redemption process may seem daunting to people, but really, it's not that bad, and for 6% back, plus up to double that depending on the miles you drive, it seems a no-brainer to me. "5 ThankYou Points for every $1 spent on purchases made at supermarkets, drug stores and gas stations and 3 ThankYou Points per $1 spent on all other purchases for the first 24 months;
1 point thereafter" True, TYP are not exactly cash, particularly with the persistent devaluations Citi has been applying to them. But I can still get restaurant gift cards at $100 for 10000 points, so to me, that's almost equivalent to 1 cent per point. At least for now... Chris. |

Yeah, had not looked at it much before. I agree that the CitiBank Platinum AMEX is a very good credit card for the first 24 months. |
