I just got an interesting email from TrueCredit. They cancelled my account due to "Excessive Access".

Here is a quote from the email:

"Excessive access to a member's credit report can indicate potential fraud or an attempt to tamper with the credit scoring system."

To be fair, I have been pulling daily since late April.

Between this, Citi reallocation and Chase's recent antics I gotta wonder if someone out there is paying attention. Anyone else get this email?

(apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, I searched first but...)

There is a class-action lawsuit underway.
Here's the link to the information: Townes v. TransUnion
(excerpt..."Plaintiff alleged that TransUnion and TrueLink were credit repair organizations because they sold services for the express or implied purpose of improving a consumer’s credit record, credit history or credit rating, and, failed to comply with the requirements of the CROA statute.")

interesting... I smell class action lawsuit if they cancel a lot of accounts due to "Excessive Access", since they even advertise on their website "credit reports AND scores-quick and secure-everyday if you want"

Pretty interesting, first I have ever heard of something like this. Thanks for sharing. They should be forced to change their marketing of the product. I mean how can you claim daily pulls only to cancel it when you do that?

I've been doing mine since April too... wonder what to expect now.

Didn't they survey users about B* just a few months ago!

I dumped TrueCredit a few months ago and now use AMEX CS, I don't pull everyday anymore but will be interesting to see if they do the same to people who do daily pulls

"Excessive access to a member's credit report can indicate potential fraud or an attempt to tamper with the credit scoring system."

So, excessie access = daily access. This is an advertized feature. Are they saying that (1) they are selling a product that allows you to pull daily, and (2) they cut you off because you pulled daily? This is outright retarded. It's like advertizing a buffet and cutting you off after the first plate.

Potential fraud? Are they implying someone else is pulling your credit? Then all you need to do is authenticate your identity to their satisfaction, and fraud concerns should be addressed, right?

Tamper with the credit scoring system. This is a double-edged sword. Can they prove this? Suppose no - then this is a frivolous claim. Suppose they do prove this; I'd like to see them do this, because it is questionable whether a few b* off inquiries are going to materially change a file's score AFTER the new accounts show up. Even if they prove it, TrueCredit.com becomes the weapon used to tamper with credit scores. One would ask TrueCredit.com why they are providing a potentially fraudulent service, because anyone can now tamper with credit. I am not trying to blame the functionality of TrueCredit.com here - I like it and use it "excessively". I am just playing with their weak line of arguments here.

Isn't it possible that you may wind up with a split credit report from too much bumpage (split-tage)? Has anyone had this happen to them, recently?

Yes, it is possible. And yes, it has happened to many.

However, I smell a class action lawsuit if this becomes widespread. They advertise the service as such that you can pull every single day and if that isn't the case...

Why do you figure a class action suit? I am sure they have some weasel wording in their contract that allows them to dump anybody that they want...

Yes, my EQ file was split about a month ago. I did nothing to "fix" it since my score jumped 70 points or so to the 790s. EQ was missing about 10 closed accounts, several inquiries, a couple of 0% cards w/ balances, and previous addresses, etc. Now all active accounts are back on file (happened one at a time) but still not old addresses or any inactive cards.

I also started using Credit Secure about the same time to try to get these new inquiries bumped.

I had been pulling previously (mostly) daily for almost a year. I have slowed down, but still pull 2-3 days a week and haven't gotten this email (yet). No TC email as of yet (fingers crossed). Guess I'll pull more Credit Secure for now.

This is interesting because I've been trying to get into Privacy Matters all day. I called the 800 number and spoke to a rep who told me they are having system problems. So I've waited 8 hours since that phone call and still can't get in. All I get is an error message that says "request can not be processed". Hmmm.....

can you quote this wording you are claiming? Only wording I've found is that you need to provide accurate information during registration, not share your password with anyone, and not to impersonate other people:

"You agree to provide accurate information in your registration and not to share your password with third parties. You agree not to impersonate another person or to select or use a user name or password of another person. You agree to notify TrueCredit promptly of any unauthorized use of your account and of any loss, theft or disclosure of your password. Failure to comply with these requirements shall constitute a breach of these terms and conditions and shall constitute grounds for immediate termination of your account and your right to use the Site."

from the fine print, looks like they need to post notice of modification before modification takes effect..

"TrueCredit may (i) change the terms of this Agreement or the feature of the membership products, or (ii) change the Site, including eliminating or discontinuing any content or feature of the Site, restricting the hours of availability, or limiting the amount of use permitted, by posting notice of such modification on a page of the Site before the modification takes effect. All changes shall be effective immediately upon posting of such notice. If you use the Site and/or your membership after TrueCredit has notified you of a change in the Agreement you agree to be bound by all of the changes. You are expected to review the Site periodically to ensure familiarity with any posted notices of modification."

OP, you have a winning case. I suggest you pursue this. I would.

Note to self: don't do b* for 4 friggin' months.

alert mods

I've seen other mentions today of people getting these cancellation letters.

So far I haven't gotten one. I'm still only paying $7.46/month(old WalMart link) on the account I've had for 2 years. Lately I pull 3 or 4 times per week.

alert mods

There is someone out there on the other end who knows what we are doing! This is ending up like the De11 deals on the HotDeals forum.

alert mods

What if you just re-apply again in a couple of weeks?

alert mods

Bobby, there has to be a story behind the story. I know of several folks who have pulled DAILY for over a year without receiving a cancellation. As has been mentioned, this notice is in direct VIOLATION of TC's Terms of Use agreement. I'd contact their CSR folks and work your way up the chain of supervisors. Something is fishy here.........
