has anyone compiled a list of the online brokerages and how much it cost, services, etc?

i have been using scottrade, trading at $7 and just recently found out about izone with $5 per trade.

Depends on how you define "best". If you mean cheapest, try Zecco.com (free trades).

Best full featured brokerage is thinkorswim imo. Their free software is unparalleled.

I like Fidelity.

ditto..Fidelity is perhaps not one of the cheapest..but it's one of the best

There is no absolute "best" online broker. It depends on what you want and need. Are you actively trading? Stocks? Mutual funds? Do you need a live human to talk to? Everyone's needs are different. While cost is certainly a major factor, it's only one of many.

Personally I've been very pleased with both Scottrade and Schwab. I would probably only be at Scottrade except that some mutual fund families that I wanted to purchase were not available at Scottrade.

P.S. Do an online search. You'll find articles comparing and rating online brokers. I think there was one not too long ago on www.smartmoney.com.

I am very happy with Tradeking
