lhendricks92 said:oh, that's cold! were you showing devildoc's levels of personal debt at the time? IIRC, I had about $80K showing, but overall utilization was under 30%. I offered to show them more than sufficient bank statements but they weren't interested. What bothered them the most were the ~16 new accounts they saw on the credit report. I've applied for another Barclays business card after bumping the INQs and waiting for 6 months from when most of the accounts were opened, but I was declined with "Too many accounts recently opened." |

They don't care, Even SuperCreditMan has problems when he shows balances like that and it's a much smaller % of his limits. |

So now Chase is taking aim at me, but seems to have fired across my bow as opposed to a direct hit. They reduced my personal credit lines on all 5 cards to just above my balance for the one card in use for 0% or $500 for unused cards. I called, faxed in my documents and still have not heard back only 3 biz days so far. At least they didn't cancel any. Or hit my biz card with the really big balance. Yet. |

How about closing them yourself? When AMEX lowered my creditline from 5,000 to 500 I closed it and they never reported the lower credit line. |

Well I would rather show that I closed a 5,000 account instead of a 500 account. Also, if chase is bothered by something. maybe closing some small unused accounts before they do is better. having a 50,000 chase card and 5 500 cards isn't helping anything and might actually hurt later when you apply for more new accounts with chase. |

I'm keeping 2 of them open because they're 8 years old, the other 3 are miles cards I was planning to cancel before they did this, after the 6 months they need to be open for bonuses. |

Likely the worse that Chase would do is keep on dropping credit lines... card closures would seem unlikely at this point. Interesting to see if you get the CL's restored. The analyst seemed very stubborn to a low-roller like me, might be more accomodating if you smack them over the head with a ton of assets. On the other hand, you do owe them almost $160,000, so they might be understandably jumpy Actually, your BT with Chase alone now matches my BT debt on my entire AOR since I paid off a couple cards... how's that for poetry? |

Chase finally called to discuss my credit lines. They were "concerned" about the $300K in revolving debt on my credit report (thank goodness for biz credit -- I've got about double that not counting the wife.) They asked what that was about, I told them I bought some stuff, transferred some balances and put the cash in CDs. That combined with my income docs and a couple of large balance savings accounts was enough. Within a few mintues my CLs were back where they belong. Next step is to cancel a couple of those cards, my annual fee cards -- BA and United -- now that the bonuses have posted. |

United and Chase have been annoyed by mileage churning on cards in the past. I don't know the details (so it may not matter) but I wouldn't be in any hurry to close the card (before the fee though, obviously). In addition, a move to consolidate a card when you have nuclear balances with Chase means an increased chance you'll be sent to a "credit ninja", who might become alarmed and start slashing lines. In your case, you're probably safe from ninjas for a while, but in my case, I'm trying to stay under the radar. Also, I just noticed in the OP the shout-out for my recommendation that you make your business cards higher priority in the apps... thanks! I get a piece of your action now, right? |
